Bairns given 'a kick up the backside'

Falkirk were given "a wake-up call" in their defeat to League 2 side Edinburgh City, says assistant coach Paul Smith.
The Bairns were three goals down at home to Michael McIndoe's City, and despite a late rally, the Premiership new boys couldn't force a draw.

"A wee wake-up call for us," he told club media post-match.
"Defensively, we defend as a team so, when they're picking on the back four or whatever, we defend from the front, but we gave away three very, very poor goals the first half, which, gets the players a wee bit restless.
"Even in the first half, we had a lot of chances as well. I think were very poor in both boxes.
"It's a wee kick up the backside that we know we'll have to go and do things better.
"We can't let our standards drop and our standards certainly dropped in the first half."

King and Queen to attend events in Edinburgh as Royal Week begins

The King and Queen will carry out a series of engagements in Edinburgh as Royal Week gets under way in Scotland. Charles will begin his official engagements by receiving a Royal Salute and inspecting The King's Bodyguard Scotland (Royal Company of Archers) Guard of Honour in the gardens of the Palace of Holyroodhouse. He will then take part in the Ceremony of the Keys which welcomes him to the Scottish capital. The Lord Provost Robert Aldridge will present the Keys to the City of Edinburgh to the King, who then returns them for safe keeping. The King will also preside over an investiture ceremony at the Palace of Holyroodhouse on Tuesday. Those receiving honours will include artist Barbara Rae, who was awarded a damehood for services to art in the New Year Honours, and Scotland's most decorated Olympian, Duncan Scott, who becomes an OBE for services to swimming. Swimmer Stephen Clegg, who won two gold medals at the 2024 Paralympic Games in Paris and becomes an MBE for services to swimming, will also attend. The monarch traditionally spends a week based at the Palace of Holyroodhouse each year in what is known as Holyrood Week or Royal Week in Scotland. Later on Tuesday, the King and Queen will host guests at a garden party at the palace, alongside the Princess Royal and Vice Admiral Sir Tim Laurence.

Celtic sign 'highly rated' striker Osmand from Fulham

Striker Callum Osmand has joined Celtic from Fulham, with the Premier League club confirming that the "highly-rated" 19-year-old had rejected the offer of a new contract. Osmand, who has signed a four-year deal with the Scottish champions, has been at Craven Cottage since the age of 13 and has represented both England and Wales at youth level. Advertisement Last season, Osmand scored 18 goals across all competitions for Fulham's Under-21 side. The teenager revealed he received advice about the move from Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Matt O'Riley, who was a Fulham trainee before a successful spell at Celtic Park. "He was telling me about how big the club is, how amazing the fans are and it's a new life really," Osmand told Celtic TV. "So, 'excited' is definitely the word for me. It feels unbelievable. It's a massive move and I can't wait to step out at Celtic Park in front of all the fans. "When I spoke to the manager, he was really positive. The plan and pathway he has set out for the club is top." Advertisement Osmand becomes Celtic's fourth first-team addition of the summer following the arrival of fellow forward Benjamin Nygren from Nordsjaelland and the return of defender Kieran Tierney from Arsenal and goalkeeper Ross Doohan from Aberdeen. Fulham will be due a development fee from the Glasgow club. Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers told his club website: "He's a quick and powerful striker and I'm really looking forward to working with him. "I'm sure he can be really successful with us. He is a highly-rated, talented young player."

Jermain Defoe reveals what Conor Coady told him about Rangers transfer after the TV cameras stopped rolling

Jermain Defoe has urged Rangers to tie up a deal for Conor Coady - as he revealed the Leicester City star IS keen on a move to Ibrox. The former Gers striker shared a TV studio with Coady on Saturday night covering England Under-21s' Euro Championship Final win over Germany. Advertisement The Foxes centre-back is wanted by new Rangers boss Russell Martin as part of his Ibrox rebuild. And Defoe says Coady is excited about the prospect of a move to Glasgow this summer. And he's implored Martin and Co to get it over the line before other clubs try and get him. Advertisement In an exclusive interview with Record Sport, Defoe said: 'I spoke to Conor and we had a good conversation about Rangers. 'He knows how big the club is and I think he's the perfect fit for Rangers. I've obviously spoken to him and I just hope the deal gets done now. I told him how big Rangers are. I said: 'Trust me, Rangers are bigger than most Premier League clubs'. -Credit:Getty Images 'I told Conor that I wish I'd gone there five years before I did. Conor is keen on the move, 100 percent. Obviously, they have to sort out a few things with Leicester and I'm not sure what is going on with that. 'But honestly, his eyes lit up. He said to me: 'J, if I get the chance to play for a club like that, it would be unbelievable'. And the great thing is, he's still only 32. It's not like he's 35. Advertisement 'He can go there, sign a four year contract and really make a difference to Rangers. He can lead them and drive that changing room. 'I don't want any other club to get him. Rangers can't miss out on signings like this. If we're looking to go in the right direction as a football club, take this opportunity. 'Because it's a guy who I know would love to be at Rangers. When you get players into the building who appreciate being there - even though he's been at top clubs and with England - it's priceless.' Defoe feels the signing of Coady could be vital as Martin looks to revamp the Rangers squad and mount a title challenge to Celtic. Advertisement He's adamant the Scouser's personality is exactly what's needed at Ibrox - and revealed he's told skipper James Tavernier to try and ensure the move doesn't fall through. Defoe said: 'Conor is a natural captain. But I even messaged Tav on Saturday night and told him - make sure the club gets this deal for Conor done. 'Because these are the types of people we need inside the club, especially in that position. 'And hopefully they can add a few more, like a midfielder and centre-forward, so they have that spine of the team. 'Conor can lead from the back and he'll be a massive signing for Rangers. 'He's a natural leader and you don't get many of them. Some players develop that over their career. Advertisement 'He was speaking to me about standards and driving the right things in the changing room. 'That's what Rangers is all about, standards. It's about how you live, what you do on and off the pitch, because you're representing a huge football club and you have to give the fans what they deserve.' Rangers are set to ramp up their efforts to sign Coady - who has one year left on his Leicester contract - this week. The defender, who has 10 England caps, is one of Martin's main targets in this window with the likes of Ben Davies and Robin Propper on their way out of Ibrox.
