Skygazers will be treated to yet another eclipse this month. Just a few short weeks after the total lunar eclipse, also known as the "blood moon," a partial solar eclipse will grace the night sky.
This weekend, the moon will pass in front of and partially block the sun, casting a shadow on parts of the Northern Hemisphere, said NASA.
The partial solar eclipse will be visible in parts of North America, Europe, Africa, northern Asia, small parts of South America, throughout Greenland and Iceland, as well as much of the Atlantic and Arctic oceans.
Here's what else to know.
Saturday's eclipse will be a partial one, which occurs when the moon passes between the sun and Earth but the sun, moon and Earth are not perfectly aligned. The moon will block only part of the sun, causing the sun to appear like a crescent said NASA.
There are four types of solar eclipses: total, annular, partial and hybrid.
Total Solar Eclipse: Occurs when the moon completely blocks the sun and the sky darkens as if it were dawn or dusk. People in the path of totality can see the sun's corona, the outer atmosphere, which is usually hidden by the sun's bright face. A total solar eclipse is the only type of solar eclipse where viewers can briefly remove their eclipse glasses.
Annular Solar Eclipse: Happens when the moon is at or near its farthest point from Earth. The moon appears smaller than the sun and doesn't cover it completely, creating a bright ring around the moon.
Partial Solar Eclipse: The moon partially covers the sun because the three celestial objects are not perfectly aligned, thus giving the sun a crescent shape. During total or annular eclipses, people outside the path of totality or annularity see a partial eclipse.
Hybrid Solar Eclipse: A rare type that shifts between total and annular as the moon's shadow moves across Earth due to the curvature of Earth's surface
The partial solar eclipse will take place on Saturday, March 29. According to the website TimeandDate.com, the partial solar eclipse will begin in the early morning, around 5:13 a.m. CT and end just before 6:17 a.m. Due to its timing around dawn, the eclipse has been dubbed a "double sunrise" eclipse.
However, eclipse visibility and peak will vary depending on the location in the U.S.
The eclipse will be visible in North America, mainly from the northeast according to a map from NASA. Areas which will be able to view the eclipse include:
Baltimore, Maryland,
Boston, Massachusetts
Buffalo, New York
New York, New York
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
Portland, Maine
Washington D.C.
Tennessee will not get a glimpse of the partial solar eclipse.
Yes, everyone watching the eclipse must use proper eye protection or an indirect viewing method to protect their eyes, said NASA.
In order to safely view the eclipse, people must wear eclipse glasses, compliant with the ISO 12312-2 international standard. Regular sunglasses are not safe for viewing the eclipse.
"Do NOT look at the sun through a camera lens, telescope, binoculars, or any other optical device while wearing eclipse glasses or using a handheld solar viewer — the concentrated solar rays will burn through the filter and cause serious eye injury," wrote NASA. "A special-purpose solar filter must be attached to the front of any telescope, binoculars, camera lens, or other optics to observe the Sun safely."
The next solar eclipse is set to occur on Aug. 12, 2026 according to NASA. The total solar eclipse will be visible in Greenland, Iceland, Spain, Russia, and a small area of Portugal, while a partial eclipse will be visible in Europe, Africa, North America, the Atlantic Ocean, Arctic Ocean, and Pacific Ocean.

Jul. 27—A groundbreaking solar observation mission, launched from New Mexico, took less time than a typical lunch break this month. NASA on July 18 launched its Solar EruptioN Integral Field Spectrograph, or SNIFS, mission from White Sands Missile Range. The trip to observe the energy and dynamics of the chromosphere took less than 20 minutes, according to NASA. Scientists hope the mission answers questions about energy and mass flow in the chromosphere, high-frequency dynamics and the state of hydrogen's influence. Phil Chamberlin, principal investigator of the mission, told the Journal that NASA hasn't yet looked at the data, which will take a couple of weeks to obtain. The team will then spend months figuring out the images and analyzing the data, he said. "It is not a quick process," he added. ABQ's Sigma Science joining RSI EnTech Sigma Science Inc., an Albuquerque-based nuclear professional services agency founded in 1996, is joining Tennessee-based RSI EnTech. RSI serves clients in the environmental, nuclear, energy, construction and project delivery sectors, according to the company. RSI is a subsidiary of ASRC Industrial Services. The work aligns with that of Sigma Science, which has federal and commercial clients like the U.S. Department of Energy, National Nuclear Security Administration and U.S. Department of Defense. Photo by ISRO/NASA July 28 (UPI) -- NASA and India plan to deploy a satellite that will map the Earth down to a centimeter after a launch on Wednesday from the Asian nation's southeastern coast. The rocket launch by the Indian Space Research Organization is scheduled from the Satish Dhawan Space Center on an island at 5:40 p.m. local time, NASA said in a news release Monday. The launch broadcast will begin at 7 a.m. EDT on Wednesday from NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Southern California on the YouTube channel. The satellite, about the length of a pickup truck, will circle Earth 14 times each day, scanning virtually all the planet's land and ice surfaces twice every 12 days. This is the first of its kind dual-radar using an L-band and S-band. The NASA-ISRO Synthetic Aperture Radar will map the Earth in 3D with the different radar frequencies to measure changes in Earth's surface, NASA said. "The satellite's ability to 'see' through clouds and light rain, day and night, will enable data users to continuously monitor earthquake- and landslide-prone areas and determine how quickly glaciers and ice sheets are changing," NASA said in a list of things to know about the mission. "It also will offer unprecedented coverage of Antarctica, information that will help with studying how the continent's ice sheet changes over time." This data will provide high-resolution data for communities and scientists to monitor major infrastructure and agricultural fields that will "refine understanding of natural hazards such as landslides and earthquakes, and help teams prepare for and respond to disasters like hurricanes, floods, and volcanic eruptions," NASA said in a news release. Managed by Caltech in Pasadena, JPL leads the of the project and provided the L-band SAR. JPL also provided other aspects of the system, including the radar reflector antenna, the deployable boom, GPS receivers. NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Md., will receive NISAR's L-band data.
