Spider-Man fans flock to Glasgow as filming continues for Tom Holland blockbuster

Parts of Glasgow have been transformed into a New York scene once again as filming resumed for Spider-Man 4. Dramatic footage shows the action-packed moment the Marvel superhero appears to leap from building to building during a police chase. The city has been abuzz for days as the cast and crew working on the blockbuster rolled in and lead star Tom Holland was spotted waving to delighted crowds on Sunday. On Monday, filming was halted as strong winds and heavy rain, triggered by the amber weather warning, caused props and set pieces to topple. But it was back to work again on Tuesday to shoot scenes for Spider Man: Brand New Day, as NYPD cars replaced Police Scotland vehicles and New York style yellow cabs were seen lining the streets Videos taken at 11.45am on Tuesday show Tom Holland's stunt double - in the iconic red and blue suit - swinging on a rope from the arm of a crane which is being driven down Bothwell Street. Because of the motion, Spider-Man appears to be leaping from building to building as he moves along the street. Following the crane is a convoy of racing police cars, done up to resemble NYPD. Filming for the eagerly anticipated Marvel movie began on Friday, with areas of Glasgow transformed to resemble parts of an American city. A local - who does not want to be named and took this footage from a high window - said: "It's very exciting, I'm a massive Marvel fan. "Spider-Man is my son's favourite and it's great to be able to tell him about the filming of the movie." On Sunday, Holland delighted onlookers as he took a break to give them a wave, triggering a few cheers. In other clips, the star was seen perched on top of a military vehicle on Bothwell Street with a NYPD car in hot pursuit. He can also be spotted making a dramatic pose on top of the vehicle, without the famous Spider-Man mask on. The Spider-Man Brand New Day film, which will be released in cinemas next summer, follows Peter Parker as he tries to focus on his university studies and leave his Spider-Man alter ego behind. However, when dark forces begin to threaten New York, Peter must suit-up again to protect his friends and neighbours. It's not the first time Glasgow has been transformed for the big screen. Earlier this year, parts of the city centre were closed off for filming of the Sci-Fi movie Ghostwriter. Not much is known about the blockbuster, but cinema legend Samuel L. Jackson is tapped to play a key role in the new J.J. Abrams film, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Duchess of York tried to date Tiger Woods, new book claims

The Duchess of York pursued Tiger Woods romantically, a new book has claimed. The book, called Entitled: The Rise and Fall of the House of York, claims the ex-wife of the Duke of York confided to her friend Piers Morgan that she found the pro golfer 'gorgeous' and flew 1,500 miles to meet him. In extracts serialised in the Daily Mail, Andrew Lownie, the author, claims that the Duchess had a list of men whom she was keen to be romantically involved with after separating from Prince Andrew, including the late son of John F Kennedy, the former US president. Lownie writes: 'On a trip to New York, Fergie asked her staff to find out if John F Kennedy Jnr … was in town and, discovering where he was, she invited him for drinks or dinner at her hotel, which he accepted.' While the meeting with 'America's prince' never took place, the Duchess did meet Woods and has since maintained a friendship with him. The Duchess was pictured hugging Woods in 1997 following his win at the Byron Nelson tournament in Texas, one of his early PGA Tour victories, and more recently publicly congratulated him on his 2019 Masters victory. 'Never have I been more proud,' she wrote about the golfer on Instagram, adding: 'Good days and bad days, Tigers' heart is loyal, steadfast and he is an amazing friend.' The new book, which promised 'extraordinary revelations' about Prince Andrew and the Duchess, claims she told Morgan that she would 'follow him around the [golf] course for a bit and see how I get on'. The broadcaster reportedly suggested that the athlete might not have the 'schedule for dating royals', concluding: 'Poor old Tiger isn't going to know what's hit him.' Lownie suggests in the book that the Duchess 'plagued' Kevin Costner, the American actor, with 'raunchy phone calls' and was interested in George Clooney at one point. The Duchess, who has remained close to her former husband and shares a home with him in Windsor Great Park, was subject to a series of tabloid stings after her separation from the Duke in 1992. The most infamous incident included a photograph surfacing of the Duchess sunbathing topless while having her toes sucked by her financial adviser in St Tropez. It was an image that at the time was credited for her ejection from the 'Firm'. ‌Penny Junor, the royal biographer, said of the event: 'She was at Balmoral when those photographs came out. The family came down for breakfast and there was Fergie in this shocking scene and that was the end.' The Duke and Duchess were pictured driving together in Windsor near their 30-room property Royal Lodge over the weekend amid the fallout from the headlines generated by Lownie's book. Elsewhere, Lownie claimed the Duke of Sussex and the Duke of York got into a heated argument in which 'punches were thrown' in 2013, an allegation that Prince Harry has denied. 'He's mine!' The book also alleged that Diana, Princess of Wales, the Duchess's sister-in-law, met John F Kennedy Jnr to discuss potentially doing business together. Their encounter was in New York City's Carlyle Hotel in 1995, according to a former executive assistant to the scion of American political royalty. It is claimed Kennedy asked the late Princess to pose for the cover of George, his political magazine. Diana agreed to hear him out after he sent her a letter and they ended up meeting for half an hour, though she did not pose. Lownie writes of the Duchess discovering the meeting between Kennedy and the Princess: 'The Duchess was not to be discouraged, especially after learning that Princess Diana had met Kennedy for 30 minutes at Christmas 1995 at a New York hotel. She was furious: 'He's mine! Why can't she just leave him alone?'

Freakier Friday is a completely unnecessary sequel - but I loved it

Freakier Friday has been the surprise of the summer as a slightly superfluous sequel to a fondly remembered noughties movie that genuinely impressed me. Quite frankly, it's far better than it has any right to be. It had all the potential to be one of the many unnecessary follow-up films pumped out by Hollywood nowadays, a lazy cash grab attempting to capitalise on nostalgia and the carefully plotted comeback of its leading lady, Lindsay Lohan. But instead, almost against the odds, it triumphs as a feelgood, genuinely funny movie that's heavy on the self-awareness and balances fan service with a decent screenplay. A lot of its success is also down to reuniting Jamie Lee Curtis and Lohan onscreen as a mother-daughter duo, their chemistry having lost none of its sparkle as their characters embark on a new phase together in their lives. Naturally, Freakier Friday starts off by nicely mirroring the first film as Lohan's Anna attempts to get her daughter Harper (Julia Butters) out of bed in time for school, with warnings of 'prepare to be triggered' that she can only have learned herself as the daughter of a therapist. To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video This proves nice fertile ground to mine throughout the movie, which screenwriter Jordan Weiss does with relish as the Coleman family looks to extend further, with Anna embarking on a romance with single dad Eric (Manny Jacinto), whose daughter Lily (Sophia Hammons) is an enemy of Harper's. There's lots of 'I hear you, can you hear us?' exchanges to entertain, which does help swallow the slightly unrealistic development that the Anna we met in Freaky Friday would have chosen to become a single parent in her very early 20s, in order to already have a teenage daughter. Freakier Friday's biggest surprise is just how funny it actually is, for a film that could easily have become bogged down in cringy and cheesy American humour. There are several standout exchanges with supporting cast members, one of which leads to a unexpectedly brilliant rendition of Chumbawamba's Tubthumping – not a sentence I ever imagined myself writing. It's also clear that Curtis and her fellow producers knew they were going to do this sequel properly as everyone returns from the first film, from Mark Harmon as Tess's husband to Pink Slip bandmembers, Rosalind Chao as the woman whose fortune cookie caused the switch last time and even Anna's former teacher Mr Bates (Stephen Tobolowsky). Obviously there's a big element of fan service in that sort of approach, but Freakier Friday also goes beyond that as a film even if we do, of course, still want to hear another version of the famous quote 'make good choices!' too. This time around it's Vanessa Bayer as dodgy (in the best way) psychic Madame Jen who facilitates the body swap, with Anna and Tess being trapped in the bodies of Harper and Lily, and vice versa. Honestly, Curtis being a teen is the solid foundation that Freakier Friday is built upon, as she throws herself into it once more with gusto, screeching over how she's 'decomposing'. But there's enough grounding in her performance that it's not constantly turned up to a 10. Lohan is also back to her best in the scenes too, playing off Curtis so well and showing off some masterful physical comedy chops in a scene where she's trying to flirt with her former boyfriend Jake (Chad Michael Murray – redundant to the story but completely necessary for fans). Normally these kinds of capers can be painfully unfunny, leaving me stony-faced, but the balance is just right between being frantic and being measured. The remain a fantastic double act, and director Nisha Ganatra knows just how to direct them. Butters is also a star in the making, singing, acting and emoting quite touchingly as her mother when she's faced with her relationship in jeopardy. Everyone is good in Freakier Friday, helped along by knowing exactly what kind of film it is, but it doesn't mean they won't stop you in your tracks occasionally with something sincere. Fans of the original should also prepare for some pretty savage commentary pointed at 'elder millennials' and adults in general, everything from Facebook being 'a database of old people' to Lily and Harper's best guest at what grown-ups talk about – 'transitional lenses and John Meyer'. Even Coldplay isn't safe. Not everything is perfect for Freakier Friday – Hammons and Jacinto are playing British characters, and while they do a pretty decent job with the accents, you will sniff them out thanks to some misplaced vowels, as well as a glaring error in the screenplay regarding national sports. As Brits, we're almost dutybound to be snippy about these things. More Trending It's also, as sequels often are, quite convoluted as it juggles such a sprawling cast between old and new faces. But it does a better job at that than many, again exceeding my expectations. Was Freakier Friday necessary as a film? No. But was it fun? Hell yes.
