In a shocking incident, a man was brutally murdered, allegedly by a couple, in Raipur district of Chhattisgarh, reported the Times of India.
His body was plastered in cement, stuffed in a suitcase, and sealed within a steel trunk, said the report.
The matter came to light after residents in the DD Nagar area in Raipur informed police about a noxious stench emanating from an abandoned trunk near a roadside bush.
According to police probe, CCTV footage showed the suspects transporting the trunk in an Alto car with its rear hatch ajar, offering crucial leads in solving the case.
The footage showed two men in the vehicle, the loaded trunk in the rear and a woman with her face covered, following the car on a two-wheeler.
The police have arrested a couple, identified as the son and daughter-in-law of a retired assistant sub-inspector of Chhattisgarh police, in connection with the case. They were detained at the Delhi airport while trying to flee.
Raipur SSP Lal Umed Singh told TOI that the accused couple was arrested and the mastermind, Ankit Upadhyay, is a lawyer by profession, who took help from his wife to dispose of the body.
The victim, identified as Kishore Paikra, was an elderly man who lived alone and prima facie it appears that he was killed by slitting his throat on June 21-22, the SSP said.
The police have found the shop from where the trunk was procured and CCTV footage showed they carried it in an e-rickshaw.
According to the ToI report, a police team reached the spot and broke open the trunk, which had a heavy and cement-filled suitcase inside. Upon breaking the plaster, the cops were shocked to find the body of a man.
The further investigation into the incident is underway.
SSP Singh said the police have yet to interrogate the prime accused couple and will soon divulge all details related to the investigation.

The widely-circulated video shows reckless behaviour on the busy roads of Greater Noida where they are apparently speeding excessively, making sudden and unsafe overtakes, and individuals are dangerously leaning out of the windows while waving. One of the vehicles has a BJP flag pasted on it as seen in the video. As the authorities traced the cars involved, the imposed substantial fines on the offenders were under several sections of the Motor Vehicles Act, comprising Section 184 (dangerous driving), Section 189 (speeding), Section 179 (disobedience and obstruction), Section 194B (seatbelt violation). Three devotees lost their lives early Sunday morning in a stampede outside the Gundicha Temple in Puri, Odisha. The incident happened between 4:00 a.m. and 4:30 a.m., when thousands had gathered to get a glimpse of the deities stationed in front of the temple, a day after the Rath Yatra . Stampede occurred after rituals concluded smoothly According to officials quoted by TOI, the main Rath Yatra rituals on Friday and Saturday were conducted without any issues, despite a brief delay due to a crowd surge on the first day. Over 12 lakh devotees attended the celebrations over two days. However, Sunday morning's stampede occurred during a much smaller gathering of about 5,000–6,000 people. Eyewitnesses say vehicles caused panic Parikhita Mishra, an eyewitness from Dhenkanal, said that vehicles moving through the crowd triggered the chaos. 'Two trucks carrying wooden ladders for the chariots were permitted to move through the crowd, further narrowing the space and triggering panic. Stampedes can occur when chariots are moving. However, tragedy struck before stationary chariots, a first in history.' Police accused of fleeing the spot Survivors and witnesses said that police failed to manage the crowd and fled the scene. Dilip Sahu, whose wife Prabhati Sahu from Khurda district died in the stampede, said, 'I watched in horror as police officers fled to protect themselves. The District Collector and Superintendent of Police were also transferred. The Odisha government has launched an investigation and announced ₹25 lakh as compensation for the families of each deceased victim.
