The First Trailer for ‘Mortal Kombat II' Is a Johnny Cage-Filled Extravaganza
The sequel film, whose title is likely to cause further confusion among fighting game fans, on top of the damage already caused by game developer NetherRealm Studios, was first announced in 2022. The trailer aims to put viewers right back in the middle of the gory action.
In contrast to the first film, which saw an original character fight alongside and against series mainstays, Mortal Kombat II will center more on its titular to-the-death martial arts tournament.
'They keep score throughout the movie,' Ed Boon, co-creator of Mortal Kombat, told Entertainment Weekly. 'There's a visual representation of who is winning… It's not just a tournament for the sake of a tournament. There are huge consequences, so you really are keeping score. And there are a lot of twists in it that keep you on your toes.'
Characters fortunate enough to not be fatalities returning to the fray from the first film include Cole Young (Lewis Tan), Scorpion (Hiroyuki Sanada), Sub-Zero (Joe Taslim), Sonya Blade (Jessica McNamee), Liu Kang (Ludi Lin), Jax (Mehcad Brooks), and Raiden (Tadanobu Asano), as well as Kano (Josh Lawson) and Kung Lao (Max Huang). While the last two were very much killed in the first film, they're somehow back. Undoubtedly, Mortal Kombat II will explain the strange appearances of characters, particularly through the cinematic introduction of revenants—undead versions of deceased fighters.
Joining the fight are Kitana (Adeline Rudolph), Shao Kahn (Martyn Ford), and—as mentioned—Johnny Cage (Karl Urban). In contrast to the previous film, which followed Young's journey, Mortal Kombat II shifts focus to make Cage a central figure. Time will tell whether the new-wave Mortal Kombat II will eat the lunch of video game competitor Street Fighter, which also appears to be assembling its killer lineup of Hollywood actors.
Mortal Kombat II is slated to release October 24.

James Gunn Reveals First Official Look at Epic DCU Metahuman Mural in SUPERMAN — GeekTyrant
James Gunn just dropped something pretty awesome for DC fans, our first official look at the massive mural inside the Hall of Justice from his upcoming film Superman . This mural tells the story of metahumans in the DCU and teases a whole lineup of classic characters who could show up in future projects. In Superman , there's a moment where Lois Lane visits the still-under-construction Hall of Justice to recruit the Justice Gang and help free Superman from Lex Luthor's containment cell. During that scene, we catch a glimpse of this jaw-dropping mural. The artwork features some deep-cut DC characters, including Wildcat, Super-Chief, Shining Knight, Gunfire, Atomic Knight, Vibe, Dr. Fate, Freedom Beast, Black Pirate, Dolphin, and Amethyst. Gunn teased this big reveal during a recent interview, saying: "There's an iconic scene with a huge, huge mural in the background that tells you the story of metahumans in the DCU. And that's going to be really, really fun when we release those images to the public." While fans have seen leaked snippets before, Gunn has now officially shared the full mural on social media. Predator: Badlands Director Confirms the Whole Predator Carrying an Android Idea Was Inspired by Chewbacca Carrying C-3PO in Star Wars
If you've seen The Empire Strikes Back, you'll probably remember Chewbacca carrying C-3PO in pieces on his back during the escape from Cloud City scene. It's a scene that has gone on to be featured in various merchandise and even the LEGO Star Wars games. Now, it has become the unlikely inspiration behind the central idea of the upcoming Predator: Badlands movie. In Predator: Badlands, Elle Fanning's Thia strikes up an alliance with Dimitrius Schuster-Koloamatangi's young Predator, Dek. We see Thia rebooted after what looks like a fight with some sort of monster. Thia is a Weyland-Yutani synth from the nefarious megacorp from the Alien franchise. The problem is, Thia has been cut in half, and her torso must be carried by the Yautja on his back as he seeks out what is described as "a creature that can't be killed" and "the definitive apex predator." Predator: Badlands' working title, Backpack, makes a lot more sense now. It turns out, the Predator carrying a synth idea was directly inspired by Star Wars. In an interview with IGN at San Diego Comic-Con 2025, Predator director Dan Trachtenberg confirmed the link, saying: 'That was the initial inspiration for it.' Star Wars, however, wasn't the only inspiration. In prior interviews Trachtenberg has mentioned masterpiece Shadow of the Colossus as inspiring Predator: Badlands, but it turns out there are many other games that factored into the film's companion mechanic, including Half-Life 2, Uncharted, and God of War. 'There's a few that have influenced me over the years and definitely come together in this,' Trachtenberg explained. 'One would be the combination of Half-Life 2, when you meet the robot dog, it's like your pet, but you befriend it, and the reboot of Prince of Persia, and Uncharted where it's like having the companion along with the journey makes it that much more rich and entertaining. And then of course, the 2018 God of War. All of that influenced the nature of Dek and Thia in this movie, along with many other things.'
