NBA rumors: Kevin O'Connor suggests Cavs try LeBron James trade with Lakers
With LeBron James opting into his $52.6 million player option for the 2025-2026 season, many assume he is returning for one final season. However, NBA reporter Kevin O'Connor proposed an interesting trade idea that the Cleveland Cavaliers could offer the Los Angeles Lakers to bring 'The King' back home for one last ride.

The Cavaliers could pull off the blockbuster trade with an offer based around point guard Darius Garland and All-Star center Jarrett Allen, according to O'Connor. The reporter believes the trade would actually be beneficial for Cleveland's short-term and long-term outlook.
'LeBron James to the Cavaliers would require getting under the second apron, which would mean losing Jarrett Allen, Darius Garland and a third guy,' O'Connor tweeted. 'It's a lot to give up for a player who may not put you over the top and may have only one year left. Then again, Allen has folded in the playoffs and Garland is a tiny guard. Could trading them be a low-key salary dump for Cleveland?
'Then, whenever LeBron retires, the front office would have cap flexibility to build next to Donovan Mitchell and Evan Mobley with better-fitting players than Allen and Garland. So in a strange way, adding LeBron could help them optimize their short-term title odds while also helping in the long term.'
James, 40, continues to mull retirement each offseason, but has yet to show any signs of significant decline on the court. His decision to exercise his player option instead of re-negotiating his deal furthers his one-year-at-a-time approach. However, James' agent, Rich Paul, recently raised another question with his comments on his client's latest career decision.

After James opted into his final contract year, Paul raised eyebrows with his cryptic comments on the decision. Paul told ESPN's Shams Charania that James 'wants to compete for a championship' and wants to end his career with a team that has a 'realistic chance' to give him his fifth ring. Paul's comments alluded to their belief that the Lakers are not in a position to win a title.

James managed to check off the final item on his retirement bucket list by playing with his son, Bronny James, for the Lakers. With nothing else left to prove in his dominant career, James seems to continue to be on the brink of retirement.

Texas Rangers put reliever Chris Martin on IL and bring 3B Josh Jung back
ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Veteran reliever Chris Martin is expected to miss at least a month for the Rangers after being put on the injured list because of a left calf strain Monday, the same day Texas brought third baseman Josh Jung back to the majors. Manager Bruce Bochy said before Monday's game that Martin likely will be out at least 4 to 6 weeks. The hometown right-hander missed 14 games from May 19-June 4 because of right shoulder fatigue. Texas recalled Jung, right-hander Cole Winn and infielder-outfielder Michael Helman from Triple-A Round Rock. Infielder Justin Foscue and outfielder Alejandro Osuna were optioned to the minor league team. Jung was struggling when the Rangers sent him down to Round Rock on July 2. While he was hitting .237 with eight homers and 35 RBIs in 75 games overall, he had hit only .164 (19 of 116) in the 30 games before getting sent down. He was an All-Star starter as a rookie in 2023, when the Rangers won their only World Series title. Packers RT Zach Tom receives record-setting signing bonus in new 4-year deal
The Green Bay Packers and right tackle Zach Tom agreed to a four-year contract extension on Monday, and the one part of the deal is believed to be record-setting for his position group. According to both and ESPN, the $30.2 million signing bonus in Tom's four-year extension is the most ever given to an offensive lineman in NFL history. Tom's bonus just barely beats the $30 million signing bonuses in deals previously signed by Laremy Tunsil and David Bakhtiari at offensive tackle. The Packers favor big signing bonuses in veteran contracts because the amount is allowed to be prorated over the length of the deal. Tom's $30.2 million, for instance, will be prorated across the remaining five years of his contract, given his four-year extension is being tacked onto the final year of his rookie deal. This cap mechanism gives the player a big chunk of money up front and lowers the salary cap hit on the front end for the team. This is the second straight summer in which the Packers have agreed to a record-breaking bonus. In July of last year, the Packers and Jordan Love set a new NFL record with a $75 million signing bonus. The deal is worth $88 million over four years. Tom's $22 million per year average in new money will rank him fourth among all right tackles, trailing only Penei Sewell, Tristan Wirfs and Lane Johnson. Of Tom's 39 career starts, 34 have come at right tackle, including all 17 games during each of the last two seasons. He has five-position potential, but the new contract strongly suggests he'll remain at right tackle for the foreseeable future.
