Senzo Meyiwa murder accused shows court where he was allegedly assaulted after his arrest
The court conducted an inspection in loco on Friday for Muzi Sibiya to point out where exactly he was allegedly assaulted on two separate occasions - first when he was arrested in May 2020 and again a few days later.
Sibiya and his four co-accused were taken to the Vosloorus area in a heavily guarded convoy.
Clad in his red robe that he wears on a daily basis to court, Judge Ratha Mokgoatlheng stood at the parking spot of a municipal precinct known as the "gold spot" in Vosloorus.
The area is busy with cars driving in and out of the offices to the fire station.
With his hand covering his mouth, Mokgoatlheng listened as Sibiya explained what he meant when be testified that he was assaulted by police in a secluded place.
Sibiya also recalled that his arrest was during the COVID-19 pandemic and parts of the precinct were quieter as a result.

Families of five who perished in horrific taxi accident to be located THE MEC for Transport and Human Settlements Siboniso Duma has assigned a team from the department, which will continue with efforts to locate the families of the five people who died in Friday's horrific accident just after the Marriannhill Toll Plaza along the N3. The MEC's spokesperson, Ndabezinhle Sibiya, said that at around 23:00 on Friday, Duma received a final report on the recovery of the deceased from the scene of the accident. Sibiya said the MEC has sent his condolences to the families of the deceased. The accident, said Sibiya, was allegedly caused by a reckless Polo Driver. One of the deceased is a police officer who was in full uniform, added Sibiya. After receiving the final report from a Road Traffic Inspectorate team, Duma said: 'We are saddened by the death of five people in this accident caused by a Polo Driver, just after Marriannhill Toll Gate. The minibus taxi veered off the road and plunged 50m down the embankment. The recovery of bodies has been completed. We lost four women and one male. Of the four women, one was a member of the South African Police Service in full uniform. We express our deepest condolences to the families of the victims. We wish those in the hospital a speedy recovery. We salute the emergency personnel, RTI, eThekwini Metro Police and rescue teams for their dedication.' 'According to our dedicated team from Road Traffic Inspectorate, a minibus taxi carrying 17 passengers, travelling to Ixopo, veered off the road and rolled down 50m down the embankment. Truck drivers who witnessed the accident have revealed that the taxi driver who was trying to avoid a reckless Polo driver lost control of his taxi. The RTI team, working with Durban Metro Police, Road Traffic Management Corporation and the South African Police, will reconstruct the accident as part of the investigations,' said Sibiya. Limpopo mayor threatens construction mafia after stalled projects
Maila said the 'construction mafia' was costing the South African government and construction industry millions of rands through disruptions and extortion. Disruptions and blockages of construction sites by the so-called construction mafias cost the South African economy more than R68 billion before the Covid-19 pandemic. This was revealed by the mayor of the Fetakgomo Tubatse Local Municipality, Eddy Shebeshebe Maila, on Thursday. Maila was speaking during the handover of two service providers for an 8km road construction project in Praktiseer Township, outside the mining-rich town of Burgersfort in Limpopo. The handover was held at a glittering ceremony at Madikiloshe Malepe Sports Ground on Thursday, with more than 1 000 people waiting with anticipation to get jobs at the project. Mafia costing construction industry millions Maila said the 'construction mafia' was costing the South African government and construction industry millions of rands through disruptions and extortion. These criminal syndicates, he said, disrupt projects, demand a percentage of the contract value, and resort to violence and sabotage, hindering the delivery of South African infrastructure. 'But I can assure you, these crooks have no place to operate their business in my municipality. 'I know your modus operandi, and I am watching you like a hawk. Here is not a playground. 'This disparity is often attributed to a lack of access to education and training opportunities, and a persistent cultural bias that views construction as a 'man's job',' said Maila. Maila said his municipality will monitor the recruitment processes at the project from inception and ensure local women with the necessary skills and documentation are given a stake in sub-contracting. 'They have the skills and the qualifications to show. We must not brush them aside. We must make sure they are employed on a 50/50 basis. 'The writing is on the wall; when we employ women, we feed the nation. That is why women should be taken seriously, and that is why we should allow them to take leadership positions in the workplace and in business,' Maila told the contractors. Residents speak out The Citizen spoke to a few residents at the meeting after Maila's address. 'We are happy that under his tutelage, women are taken seriously. We have been brushed aside before, and are saying enough is enough. 'We also want to play leadership roles in the construction business. Construction work has long been stereotypically associated with a male-dominated space, but now things are changing. 'We are 50/50,' resident Francinah Mohale said. Collen Nkoana said the community was ready to help the mayor fight construction mafias. 'Working hand in glove with the police, we can not go wrong. 'We are going to fight with everything we have until the last drop of our blood to make sure that this project gets up to its practical completion in a 12-month record time.'
