Corny country musical Shucked is no Book of Mormon
I would not say Jack O'Brien's production of Robert Horn's hit US country musical comedy Shucked amounts to vintage Regent's Park – he is a good, spirited director of a very slight sort of show – but the good-nature of the cast and the great set from Scott Pask make it all seem a lot more than the sum of its parts.
There's a lot of yee-hawing among the farm hands as Maizy – Sophie McShera – prepares to marry Beau – Ben Joyce – in corn country. But ultimately it all feels a bit like a sub-prime Oklahoma, and, whatever else one might say about Brandy Clark and Shane McAnally's music and lyrics, they sure ain't up there with Rodgers and Hammerstein. It feels ambitious to say, as some have done, that this could be as big as The Book Of Mormon.
Its big redeeming feature is Keith Ramsay wisecracking his way through the proceedings, noting, among other things, that the women who want sensitive, intelligent boyfriends seldom notice that those potential boyfriends already have boyfriends.

John, who wed the former Studio 10 host in 1984 at Sydney's Opera House, suffered a fall from a balcony in March 2016 which left him paralysed and wheelchair-bound. Kerri-Anne devoted the majority of her time to his full-time care before he passed away at the age of 78 on February 27, 2019.

South Park co-creator's sarcastic three-word response after Donald Trump jibe
A naked Donald Trump was depicted in bed with Satan in the 27th season premiere of South Park, a reference which sparked anger from the White House in the US South Park co-creator Trey Parker hit back at anger from the White House over the depiction of a naked Donald Trump in bed with Satan in the animated series. The reference featured in the first episode of the 27th series of the programme, which aired on Wednesday, following the team's £1.19bn ($1.5 billion) deal with Paramount. The White House blasted the jibe, branding South Park a "fourth-rate show... with uninspired ideas." But today Mr Parker, who with Matt Stone created South Park in 1997, had the briefest - and iciest - response to the backlash. He said: "We're terribly sorry" and gave a long, deadpan-comic stare to camera and his fans. Mr Parker, who also co-created The Book of Mormon, was asked for his reaction to the fracas as he sat on the stage at San Diego's Comic-Con International at the beginning of a Comedy Central animation panel. Mr Stone was also on the panel at the comic book convention, held in California every year. In the episode, Mr Trump sues the town of South Park when its residents challenge the presence of Jesus Christ – the actual person – in its elementary school. Jesus tells them they ought to settle. Although Mr Parker and Mr Stone recently signed a five-year deal with Paramount for 50 new episodes and streaming rights to previous seasons, they used the episode on Wednesday to take aim at the company's its $16 million (£11.8 million) recent settlement with Mr Trump. But in a statement after the season premiere aired, a spokesperson for the White House said: "This show hasn't been relevant for over 20 years and is hanging on by a thread with uninspired ideas in a desperate attempt for attention. President Trump has delivered on more promises in just six months than any other president in our country's history – and no fourth-rate show can derail President Trump's hot streak." In the episode, Jesus says: "You guys saw what happened to CBS? Yeah, well, guess who owns CBS? Paramount. Do you really want to end up like Colbert?" CBS and parent Paramount Global canceled Stephen Colbert's "Late Show" last week, days after Colbert sharply criticised Paramount's settlement of Mr Trump's lawsuit over a "60 Minutes" interview. CBS and Paramount executives said it was a financial decision to axe 'The Late Show.' The efficiency of South Park production, and the brinksmanship of its creators, has allowed it to stay incredibly current for an animated series, fans say. Speaking at Comic-Con, father-of-one Mr Parker said: "I don't know what next week's episode is going to be. Even just three days ago, we were like, 'I don't know if people are going to like this.'"

Anton du Beke charity hits £250k despite Who Wants to be a Millionaire? gaffe
EXCLUSIVE: Strictly Come Dancing star Anton du Beke generously made up the £15k he lost on ITV's Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? from his own pocket Anton du Beke has thanked the public for their generosity after his fundraising for The Sick Children's Trust hit £250,000. The efforts from the Strictly Come Dancing judge include £15,000 of his own money, donated after he lost the same amount on Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? after getting a question about musicals wrong. In a video for social media, he said he wanted to thank everyone for 'giving so generously' to the charity, which allows parents to stay in a 'home from home' while their seriously ill child receives treatment in a hospital nearby. Over the past two years, Anton, 58, has hosted sell-out golf days and glitzy afternoon tea events in order to raise cash for the cause. He said: 'We've raised over the last couple of years with my golf days and my afternoon teas and my slightly embarrassing moment on Who Wants to Be a Millionaire, we've reached a quarter of a million pounds. So I wanted to say a huge thank you. All that money's going to such a great cause, and I know everyone involved is eternally grateful. Thank you all from the bottom of my heart.' Appearing on the ITV quiz show in February, Anton was asked by host Jeremy Clarkson: 'Which Tony-Award winning musical features a mash-up called Elephant Love Medley?' The options were A) Hairspray, B) Moulin Rouge, C) The Book of Mormon and D) Si,x and despite using his 50/50 lifeline, Anton still got the answer wrong, picking The Book of Mormon over Moulin Rouge. Prior to losing, he pledged that if he'd picked the wrong option and lost the money, he'd make up the £15,000 himself. Anton, who became an ambassador for the charity in 2023, reached the milestone last month when his golf fundraiser at Burhill Golf Club brought in more than £35,000. His efforts have directly funded 6,250 nights of free stays for families going through tough times with a sick child. He added: 'The Sick Children's Trust is an incredible charity doing vital work to support families at the most difficult time in their lives. I've seen firsthand just how much it means to parents to have somewhere safe and supportive to stay when their child is in the hospital. I'm honoured to play a small part in making that possible, and I'll keep dancing, golfing and fundraising for as long as I can.' The charity has ten 'Homes from Home' across the country, supporting more than 3,200 families each year. It costs £40 to support a family for one night.
