India to soon start building jet engine, team is getting ready..., Zomato CEO Deepinder Goyal plans to....

India.coma day ago
Eternal (formerly Zomato) CEO Deepinder Goyal recently invested in LAT Aerospace, a new aviation startup, focused on making regional air travel quicker and cheaper. He has now called on engineers from around the country to come and work on the startup.
According to the media reports, Deepinder Goyal is now planning to manufacture jet engines. His funded startup, LAT Aviation, is planning to design 100% India-sourced gas turbines for regional aircraft. The company is currently recruiting engineers with experience in turbine and rotor fabrication. LAT Aviation is a nascent aerospace endeavor founded by Deepinder Goyal and Surobhi Das.
Sharing a post on X(previously Twitter), Goyal wrote, 'At LAT, we want to get past the finish line. So we're putting together a propulsion research team in Bangalore, focused solely on building gas turbine engines from scratch. Lightweight. Efficient. Flight-ready. Made in India.'
'We're giving engineers the freedom to think, build, break, and repeat. Our dedicated research centre — with labs for combustion, turbomachinery, thermal systems, and materials, will give engineers the space and freedom to iterate fast, and get to real outcomes at a speed which is unprecedented in the industry. Also, this team will be led by engineers. No waiting around for approvals from 'business' people,' reads Goyal's post on X.
The post further read, 'No chasing slides or meetings. Just hands-on problem solving, running bench tests, working with suppliers, building hardware from scratch — and pushing the limits of design and physics every day.
'Goyal admitted that this innovation won't be without challenges, but if engineers can pull it off, it will change everything. He also mentioned in the same post that this company is not a part of Eternal, which was previously known as Zomato.
Previously, he refuted reports that LAT Aerospace, an aviation startup backed by him, has bought a Bombardier Global jet. Reacting to reports that Eternal CEO Deepinder Goyal-backed LAT Aerospace has bought a Bombardier private jet, Goyal said 'LAT is a startup and has not bought any private jet'.
'We are focused on building aircraft for regional aviation and are not in the business of buying planes,' he said in a statement posted on X.
LAT Aerospace, co-founded by Goyal, aims to transform regional air travel in India with low-cost, high-frequency mini-aircraft.
It is building the future of mass aviation: a network of high-frequency, low-cost, 24-seater, STOL (short take-off and landing), medium-haul aircraft that 'make every city, every town, and every community accessible.'
'Powered by next-generation aircraft, designed ground-up for efficiency, built for affordability, and future-proofed for autonomy, we are aiming to rewrite the rules of flight,' according to the startup.
'Our aircraft will take off and land in compact 'air-stops' no bigger than a parking lot — no baggage belts, no security bottlenecks — eliminating the need for complex, expensive airport infrastructure that regional air travel simply doesn't require,' according to its website.
The startup has reportedly raised about $50 million, with $20 million invested by Goyal.

UK CALLING TN: FTA OPPORTUNITY

What does Tamil Nadu stand to gain from the recently announced free trade agreement with the UK? Quite a lot. It offers the state the "opportunity to expand its global industrial footprint across sectors where it already holds a competitive edge," says state industries minister TRB Rajaa. That's because the sectors that the FTA will positively impact include auto components, textiles, leather, and footwear – all of which are critical industries in TN's manufacturing and export basket. Says industry secretary V Arun Roy: "The UK FTA is a big positive for TN. In textiles, it makes our exports to Britain more competitive, and they are expected to more than double. The leather and footwear industry will also witness an export surge. Another beneficiary of more business and job creation will be our well-developed auto component industry." Auto components form the largest chunk of TN's nearly $117 billion (FY24-25) engineering export ecosystem. According to Shradha Suri Marwah, president, ACMA, the FTA will benefit the component sector through better "export opportunities in areas such as electric mobility, precision engineering, and lightweight materials." by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like The Most Beautiful Female Athletes Right Now Undo Rajaa is unequivocal about how big the potential can be. "In the auto and auto components, the tariff reduction from over 100% to just 10% creates massive upside," he says. "Tamil Nadu's globally connected auto industry, which includes companies like Tata Motors (through Jaguar Land Rover) and TVS Motor Company (which owns Norton), can now seamlessly integrate their UK and Indian operations, scaling faster and creating more high-value jobs here in the state," he adds. State-headquartered auto giants are chuffed about this chance to tap the global market via the UK. Says Arun Roy, "The automobile industry with UK operations like Tata-JLR and TVS can use this low tariff opportunity to closely integrate their TN operations with their global supply chain." TVS Motor MD Sudarshan Venu greeted the FTA for opening up "new frontiers for Indian companies to take 'Make in India' to the world". The company, which is preparing to launch its British brand Norton's vehicles this year, "will benefit from the strengthening of trade links between India and the UK," he adds. "As a company with a presence in both India and the UK, (the FTA) will accelerate our ability to deliver cost-effective solutions to global customers." And where the companies go, skills follow. "The state is also a leader in creating qualified professionals in the service sector. These professionals will get more job opportunities in the UK," says Arun Roy. Regarding exports, Tamil Nadu's current strength lies in passenger vehicles (PVs), auto components, and tyres. But, it is now eyeing segments like electric drivetrains and engine management systems to "diversify its portfolio," said state MSME secretary Atul Anand in an earlier interview. The Tamil Nadu Industrial Policy 2021 and EV Policy 2023 incentivize investments in EVs and electronics manufacturing as part of the state's focus on high-value components. The state faces competition from global manufacturing hubs, such as China and South Korea, which have established dominance in EV components. The FTA will be a clear advantage on that front. Given that MSMEs "form the backbone of the auto component industry, they stand to gain from the liberalized terms of trade and improved access to UK markets," adds Marwah. The agreement will be critical for TN's other industries, such as textiles, where TN clocked $8 billion worth of exports last fiscal. "In textiles, the deal is expected to more than double exports from hubs like Tirupur to the UK, making our high-quality knitwear even more attractive in European markets," says Minister TRB Rajaa. The industry seems to concur. According to Dr A Sakthivel, vice chairman of the Apparel Export Promotion Council, the FTA will allow exporters to enjoy a stronger edge over the competition from Bangladesh, Vietnam, and China in the UK market. The same goes for footwear and leather, where Tamil Nadu makes up for nearly 40% of India's output. "The reduction in UK tariffs will boost both traditional leather goods and our fast-growing non-leather manufacturing clusters," Rajaa adds. J Rafiq Ahmed, chairman of Kothari Industrial Corporation, believes that the FTA "will make it cheaper to export labour-intensive goods". Given that the UK is India's third-largest trading partner as far leather and leather products are concerned and TN clocked $1.63 billion in leather exports in FY24-25, the zero duty deal is important for the state's exporters. PIB Debunks Fake Claim That India May Suspend US Agreements Over Tariffs

Last Updated: The Press Information Bureau dismissed false claims that India is suspending agreements with the US. The Press Information Bureau's Fact Check unit on Sunday officially dismissed social media posts which falsely claimed, citing the Ministry of External Affairs, that India is considering suspending or reviewing bilateral agreements with the United States over 'hostile economic policies". The fact-check by the Press Information Bureau comes amid speculations over the state of India-US ties after the US administration under President Donald Trump imposed 25% tariff on Indian exports. The social media statement by PIB clarified that no such statement was issued and labeled the claims as misinformation. 'The External Affairs Ministry has not made any such statement. Stay alert and do not fall for misleading information. above is from Govt of India," the PIB social media post on X said. It also shared photos of the misleading post where some accounts were seen posting false information with respect to ties between Washington and New Delhi. This rebuttal comes amid escalating tensions over US tariff actions. The MEA earlier in the week reiterated that India remains in active negotiations with Washington over a trade deal and assured the public that diplomatic ties and economic engagements are intact and ongoing, unaffected by such rumours. On July 30, 2025, US President Trump announced a 25% tariff on Indian imports, effective August 1, citing high Indian tariffs, restrictive trade barriers and India's continued energy and defense ties with Russia. This move sent immediate ripples through export and import sectors of both countries — particularly in the textiles, apparel, gems, jewellery and electronics sector – where exporters and importers fear the new duties could lead to widespread disruptions. view comments First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
