iPhone Fold tipped for 2026 release by analyst — and here's how much it could cost

Some big claims about the iPhone Fold's launch and pricing have been made not by a regular leaker, but by JPMorgan analyst Samik Chatterjee (via CNBC). Chatterjee agrees with other tipsters that the iPhone Fold is likely to launch in September 2026, as part of the iPhone 18 series launch, and with a price tag of $1,999. This matches previous claims we've heard from other tipsters, but also differs from some too. We have also heard price estimates of over $2,000, and others hoping for a lower price due to a cheaper total parts cost. In the report, Chatterjee gives the iPhone Fold's display sizes as 7.8 inches inside, and 5.5 inches outside, as previous rumors have claimed. He also talks about the inner screen having no crease, something we've yet to see on a foldable phone, but something that Apple (and Samsung too) will apparently debut next year. The best foldable phones have been refining their formula for the better part of a decade at this point. So it's impressive in a way that Apple's been willing to hold out so long before launching its own. While the leaks so far suggest that, beyond perhaps having a surprisingly large battery, the iPhone Fold won't be that revolutionary compared to the competition. But simply being an iPhone may be enough to convince users to buy it. We've still got over a year until iPhone Fold's rumored release date, and the iPhone 17 series to meet in the meantime too. Get instant access to breaking news, the hottest reviews, great deals and helpful tips. Things could still change for the iPhone Fold, and there are plenty of other specs and features we've yet to hear rumored. But there's no doubt this is going to be a phone launch a lot of people are going to pay attention to, even if it does end up costing a cool two grand. Apple rolls out important iPhone update ahead of iOS 26 overhaul

What's happened? Apple has rolled out what might be its final major update for its current software platforms ahead of its total overhaul across all devices this fall. The iOS 18.6 update has rolled out to iPhone users, with other Apple devices also seeing an update in the form of iPadOS 18.6, macOS Sequoia 15.6, watchOS 11.6, tvOS 18.6, and visionOS 2.6. The updates are free – but don't expect to see the new Liquid Glass interface. That's reserved for the '26' updates in a couple of months. This is important because: the latest software versions come with key security updates and bug fixes which will keep your devices working properly, and safely. One bug fix which is included in the updates is resolving an issue with sharing memory movies in the Photos app. The update mainly focuses on security issues, with a long list of improvements published by Apple. Recommended Videos Why should I care? While none of the security loop holes Apple has patched in its latest software updates are known to have been exploited, it's important to keep your devices up to date. Updates tend to take several minutes to prepare, download and install – and a device restart will also be triggered as part of the update process. Failing to update to the latest software version could leave your devices vulnerable to cyberattacks. Okay, what's next? If you own an iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch, Apple TV or Vision Pro, we'd recommend checking for the latest update to ensure your devices are fully up to date with the latest features and security settings. Beyond these updates, all eyes are on September for the introduction of iOS 26, iPadOS 26, macOS 26 Tahoe, watchOS 26, tvOS 26 and visionOS 26 – marking Apple's biggest overhaul in its software offering in more than a decade. Apple has said these updates will arrive this fall, and going by previous software generations we expect them to arrive in September, around the time of the iPhone 17 launch. If you can't wait until then, public betas are available for all platforms bar visionOS – allowing you to get early access to the new look and features. Before you download, these aren't final versions of the software. There will be bugs and some features may not work at all.

iOS 18.6: Apple Just Gave All iPhone Users 25 Reasons To Upgrade Now

Updated July 30 with details on the two dozen security updates to add to the Photos fix in iOS 18.6. If it feels like a long time since the last iPhone update, it's because it is. Well, the last update, iOS 18.5, landed on May 12, and there hasn't been a smaller, security release in between — a sign that as the software nears the end of the cycle that it's pretty solid. Here's what's in the new release and how to get it. Apple has also revealed that there are 24 security updates contained in the release, as well as highlighting one fix to an issue in the Photos app. That's 25 reasons Apple is urging people to update. Should you? Read my post on how the new update has been received, coming July 30. Apple iOS 18.6 is here. By the way, at the time iOS 18.5 came out, it was thought it would be followed this fall by iOS 19, but Apple announced a few weeks later a complete overhaul of its naming system, with each OS having a year number attached — the year when it will mostly be used, in this case 2026. Which iPhones Can Run iOS 18.6? Like every other release in the iOS 18 cycle, iOS 18.6 is compatible with all iPhones from 2018 onwards. That means the iPhone Xs, iPhone Xs Max and iPhone XR and all iPhones since. This list includes the iPhone SE in both its second- and third-generation models. And all members of the iPhone 16 series are included, right up to the iPhone 16 Pro Max and iPhone 16e. Please note that this may be the last time I type those words: iOS 26, currently in public beta, is only compatible with iPhone 11 series and later. It will go on general release in September. iOS 18.6 How To Get It You've doubtless done this many times by now, but just in case: open the iPhone Settings app, then choose General, followed by Software Update. Next, click on Download and Install, and it'll be on your phone shortly. This is a large- sized update, 1.07GB on my iPhone 16 Pro Max. iOS 18.6 — What's In The Release This late in a release cycle there's rarely any prospect of much in the way of new features. That's the case here. It's almost all about bug fixes and security updates, which Apple will define in due course. But there is one change, an issue for the Photos app. Apple reveals this update, 'fixes an issue in Photos that could prevent memory movies from being shared,' the release notes state. This isn't an issue I've personally seen, but Apple has fixed it. Then there are the two-dozen security fixes. Of these, one third are related to WebKit, which underpins Safari, and which could see a user's sensitive information revealed or result in fake web address information if visiting a malicious website. There are also accessibility issues, such as an alarming one where VoiceOver could be used to read a passcode aloud and another where the privacy indicators — the little orange dot on the iPhone screen that shows the microphone is active, and the green dot that confirms the camera is on — could be incorrectly displayed. Why so many security issues? Well, as mentioned above, the last iOS update was in the second week of May, so more than 11 weeks before this new release. The next update? It's likely to be iOS 26 in September, unless there's something that needs addressing because of this release.
