Sarawak champions clean energy vision at Energy Exports Conference 2025 in Scotland
KUCHING (June 9): Sarawak has reaffirmed its dedication to global partnerships and clean energy leadership at the Energy Exports Conference (EEC) 2025 in Aberdeen, Scotland, positioning itself as a key driver of a sustainable and resilient energy future for the region.
According to a statement from Ministry of Energy and Environmental Sustainability, during the conference, the state presented its green and blue economy agenda under the Post Covid-19 Development Strategy 2030 (PCDS 2030), which emphasises a balance between economic growth, social inclusion and environmental stewardship.
Deputy State Secretary (Economic and Planning) Dato Sri Dr Muhammad Abdullah Zaidel highlighted Sarawak's transparent and investor-friendly environment, reiterating the state's zero-tolerance stance on corruption.
He invited international partners to collaborate on scaling clean energy solutions and advancing inclusive development.
Sarawak Energy Berhad's senior vice president of Corporate Services Siti Aisah Adenan shared the company's long-term sustainability roadmap, which includes plans for cross-border grid integration to enable renewable energy exports and strengthen regional energy reliability.
SEDC Energy chief executive officer Robert Hardin outlined ongoing collaborations with Japanese and South Korean partners to develop hydrogen and ammonia export capabilities.
He said the Sarawak H2 Hub in Bintulu, developed with Gentari Sdn Bhd, will supply green hydrogen for industrial use and support Sarawak's ambition to become a commercial hydrogen producer by 2027.
Earlier in the conference, Deputy Minister for Energy and Environmental Sustainability Datuk Dr Hazland Abang Hipni delivered a keynote during the Sarawak session on Opportunities in Borneo, highlighting the state's energy transition as being driven by strong policy frameworks, continued investment in innovation and close regional cooperation.

The summit will gather 500 participants, including policymakers, economists, industry analysts, sovereign fund representatives and corporate leaders from across ASEAN and Asia. KUALA LUMPUR, July 23 (Bernama) -- The debate on the 2025 Auditor-General's Report (LKAN) Series 2 in the Dewan Rakyat today has been described as a significant step towards strengthening the accountability and transparency of public institutions, in line with the government's commitment to governance reforms. Members of Parliament (MPs) praised the government's decision to table LKAN 2/2025 for debate in the Dewan Rakyat as a progressive move, allowing elected representatives to scrutinise the audit findings and put forward constructive proposals for improvement. They believe that this approach reflects the government's unwavering commitment to strengthening the integrity of public financial management while ensuring that the implementation of government programmes delivers tangible benefits to the people. Khoo Poay Tiong (PH-Kota Melaka) said the debate on the report is clear evidence of the government's ongoing reforms under Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's administration, which dares to make bold changes. 'Congratulations also to the National Audit Department for providing a detailed report and allowing the Dewan Rakyat to debate it… this is a reform measure that needs to be repeated,' he said during the LKAN 2/2025 debate session in the Dewan Rakyat today. Cha Kee Chin (PH-Rasah) said the debate provided an opportunity for elected representatives to voice reprimands, views, and constructive criticisms on LKAN, thereby strengthening the checks and balances in line with the institutional reforms promised by the government. Meanwhile, MPs who took part in the debate also offered reprimands and suggestions for improvements on the issues highlighted in LKAN, which involved the audit results of five programmes, activities, and projects across seven ministries, with the total audited cost amounting to RM48.873 billion. Tan Kar Hing (PH-Gopeng) proposed that the cooking oil subsidy be transformed into targeted assistance through e-vouchers using the Central Database Hub (PADU) system, following the serious weaknesses in the Cooking Oil Price Stabilisation Scheme (COSS) highlighted in LKAN. 'With this voucher, consumers can make purchases at supermarkets, retail stores, or online. This approach will also reduce administrative burdens, increase transparency, and prevent leakages that have plagued the distribution chain,' he said.

PM orders ministers to rectify recurring audit issues
KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has instructed all ministers to thoroughly address and act on recurring issues raised in the Auditor General's Report 2/2025. Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Law and Institutional Reform) Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said said the government took the issues seriously, including leakages, non-compliance, failure to meet conditions and planning weaknesses. She said they must be thoroughly reviewed and corrective action must be taken. "The government takes the issues raised in the AG's report seriously. Every criticism should serve as a lesson to prevent recurrence. "The prime minister has also stressed that all ministers, in line with the Federal Government Ministers' Orders, must scrutinise every observation raised in the report, especially involving repeated issues that have yet to be fully addressed by the responsible parties," she said. Azalina said this when tabling the motion for the report to be debated under Dewan Rakyat Standing Order 27(3). The AG's report released on Monday had flagged " serious irregularities" and "weaknesses" in projects and programmes in seven ministries. Among others, the report revealed that the implementation of the subsidised cooking oil programme suffered from weak enforcement and poor targeting, with no clear mechanisms in place to ensure the aid reaches eligible recipients. Azalina added that the government was of the view that every AG's report should continue to be debated in the Dewan Rakyat. "The efforts and commitment shown by all members of parliament clearly reflect the spirit of collective responsibility in safeguarding the integrity of the nation's financial management. "It also demonstrates our shared determination to strengthen the mechanism of checks and balances in the interest of the people. "In continuing reform efforts to enhance the efficiency, transparency and effectiveness of public entities, the government believes that each report should continue to be debated in the Dewan Rakyat. "This will allow for deeper scrutiny and attention from all parties and support the government's aim of improving public sector governance, aside from the examination by the Public Accounts Committee (PAC)," she said.
