Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed attends World Utilities Congress 2025
ABU DHABI (ALETIHAD)His Highness Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Executive Council, has attended the 4th World Utilities Congress, hosted by Abu Dhabi National Energy Company (TAQA) at ADNEC Centre Abu Dhabi from 27 to 29 May 2025. During the visit, His Highness toured several stands of national entities and companies, including Abu Dhabi Department of Energy, TAQA, Enercap – a subsidiary of Apex Investment PSC, and Elsewedy Electric. His Highness reviewed the latest innovations in the water, electricity, and utilities management sectors, and the ongoing efforts of national stakeholders to advance sustainability practices across the industry.The three-day event convened global decision-makers and experts and featured high-level discussions, pioneering technological solutions and strategic initiatives driving progress across the power and water utilities sectors. This year's edition welcomed more than 18,000 attendees, 1,400 delegates, and in excess of 500 thought leaders from around the world, further enhancing innovation and reinforcing sustainable and environmentally friendly practices in the utilities sector, amid growing global demand for energy and water.The 4th World Utilities Congress focused on digital transformation, artificial intelligence, resilient smart-grid systems, and sustainable funding for projects powered by renewable energy sources, such as wind and solar, to drive practical, future-ready solutions for the challenges facing the utilities sector.
During the visit, His Highness Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan was accompanied by His Excellency Mohammed Ali Al Shorafa, Chairman of the Department of Municipalities and Transport, Dr Abdulla Humaid Al Jarwan, Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Department of Energy, His Excellency Saif Saeed Ghobash, Secretary General of the Abu Dhabi Executive Council and Chairman of the Office of the Crown Prince, Jasim Husain Thabet, Group CEO and Managing Director of TAQA, and His Excellency Humaid Matar Al Dhaheri, Managing Director and Group CEO of ADNEC.

Dubai unveils Dh633 million plan to cut congestion in busy financial hub
Dubai's transport authority on Sunday awarded a contract for a Dh633 million ($172 million) road scheme aimed at cutting congestion on one of the emirate's busiest traffic routes. The Al Mustaqbal Street development project – which stretches from Zabeel Palace Street to Financial Centre Street – will involve the construction of three tunnels able to serve a combined 9,000 cars per hour, said the Roads and Transport Authority. A 450 metre-long, two lane bridge is also to be built, which will service traffic from Dubai World Trade Centre to the intersection of Zabeel Palace Street and Al Mustaqbal Street. Al Mustaqbal Street will be expanded from three lanes to four lanes in both directions, from its intersection from Financial Street to Zabeel Palace Street, in road widening works covering 3,500 metres. The major revamp will increase capacity from 6,600 vehicles to 8,800 vehicles per hour and aims to slash average travel times from 13 minutes to six minutes. Under the initiative, pedestrian walkways will be upgraded, a dedicated cycling track will be created and additional lighting and public spaces will be established to enhance the look of the area. The RTA did not disclose further details on the major contract and did not state when the works are expected to be completed. Boosting traffic flow The road works are part of a wider Dubai World Trade Centre Roundabout masterplan, which will improve connectivity to the Sheikh Zayed Road, the emirate's main transport link. The project − which was first announced in October − is set to benefit about 500,000 residents and visitors. 'Al Mustaqbal Street Development Project forms part of a broader project that includes the development of the Trade Centre Roundabout, with construction works having commenced in the last quarter of the year,' said Mattar Al Tayer, director general of the RTA. 'The project will serve several key commercial, residential and development zones, most notably the Dubai World Trade Centre, which has been the region's premier venue for international events and exhibitions for over four decades. 'It will further enhance connectivity to key areas, including Zabeel, Downtown Dubai and Business Bay.' The emirate has embarked on a significant road building strategy in recent years in an effort to ensure the emirate's transport infrastructure can keep pace with a booming population, which is fast approaching 4 million. Dubai's government is set to invest heavily in infrastructure in the years ahead as it sets its sights on growing its population to 5.8 million by 2040. In October, the emirate unveiled its largest government budget for 2025-2027, with spending of Dh272 billion. In 2025, expenditure is set at Dh86.26 billion, with 46 per cent to be spent on infrastructure, including roads, bridges, transport systems and renewable energy centres, as well as the Al Maktoum Airport development.

13 July 2025 13:17 ABU DHABI (ALETIHAD)His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler's Representative in Al Dhafra Region and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi (EAD), commended the unwavering support and guidance of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the Highness affirmed that this steadfast backing has enabled the agency to achieve remarkable progress through a diverse portfolio of strategic projects and initiatives, all aligned with its vision to conserve fish stocks and ensure their sustainability for future came during His Highness's visit to the headquarters of EAD, in the presence of Sheikh Hazza bin Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Her Excellency Razan Khalifa Al Mubarak, Managing Director of EAD, His Excellency Nasser Mohammed Al Mansouri, Undersecretary of the Ruler's Representative Court in Al Dhafra Region and Her Excellency Dr Shaikha Salem Al Dhaheri, Secretary-General of the Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan commended the pioneering achievement of EAD in raising the sustainable fishing index from 8.9 percent in 2018 to 97.4 percent by the end of 2024. This places Abu Dhabi first globally in this index, as EAD has implemented comprehensive, globally informed measures and procedures for sustainable recovery of fish stocks. Key actions include regulating fishing activities through the adoption of sustainable gear, managing recreational fishing, and establishing six marine reserves within the Sheikh Zayed Protected Areas Network to oversee and control fishing has also advanced the sustainable aquaculture sector in Abu Dhabi. To further enhance fish stocks, the agency has undertaken coral reef restoration and installed artificial structures as part of the Abu Dhabi Coral Gardens EAD team also presented the Dalma Fish Project to His Highness, an initiative that cultivates local fish in marine cages and stands as the first in the Middle East to integrate artificial intelligence into aquaculture practices. During the presentation, the team highlighted several of the agency's most innovative initiatives, including the use of AI in fisheries management, which is the first-of- its-kind globally. This technology enables the identification of fish species and the estimation of their size and weight, contributing to more effective data collection and the sustainable development of the fisheries Highness concluded the visit by praising EAD's ambitious developmental vision and its unwavering commitment to advancing environmental sustainability across the emirate. His Highness highlighted the agency's impactful policies, continuous pursuit of innovation, and strong engagement with partners, fishermen, and community members as key drivers in achieving the emirate's objectives, particularly the long-term sustainability of fish stocks.
