Punjab-based agent held for arranging illegal US entry via ‘dunki' route
The accused, Jagjeet Singh alias Jassa (29), a resident of Rajpura, was held following the deportation of a 21-year-old Indian youth from the US, who was found travelling with a tampered passport, police said.
The 'dunki route' is a term used for an illicit transcontinental network that helps people illegally cross multiple borders -- often enduring dangerous terrains -- to enter countries like the US.
The matter came to light when Navjot Singh, a resident of Mansa district, arrived at the IGI Airport on the intervening night of June 3 and 4 after being deported from the US. During immigration clearance, forged Indian immigration and Kenyan arrival stamps were found in his passport.
These entries did not match official records, police said.
Subsequent investigation revealed that Navjot had travelled from Mumbai to Kenya on a tourist visa in November 2024. He then moved to Turkey and Spain using a forged Schengen visa and eventually reached Mexico. From there, he entered the US by crossing the Tijuana border with the help of smugglers.
Police said Navjot was detained by US authorities and remained in custody for five months before being deported. He was arrested at IGI Airport upon arrival after officials detected the tampered travel documents.
On interrogation, Navjot revealed that he had paid ₹41 lakh to Jagjeet Singh, the alleged mastermind, for facilitating the illegal journey. A team traced and apprehended Jagjeet Singh from Punjab.
During questioning, Jagjeet Singh admitted to arranging illegal transits through international agents based in Kenya and Mexico. He said that he has been in the business for two to three years, luring job-seekers with promises of entry into the US. Further investigation is underway, police said.

Two Indians arrested for drug smuggling in Nepal

Rubina Abdullah Shaikh, 35, who arrived in Kathmandu from Ethiopia via Qatar on Tuesday was arrested from her hotel room on Wednesday, Nepal Police Narcotic Control Bureau said in a statement. She was arrested at Singmangal near the Tribhuvan International Airport when the police raided her room on the basis of a tipoff. One kg and 574 grams of cocaine was recovered from her bag. Police arrested another Indian national, Arun Pratap, from the same hotel where he had allegedly come to receive the narcotic drugs from her. Delhi HC rejects Turkish airport ground handling firm's plea against revocation of security clearance
The Delhi High Court on Thursday (July 31, 2025) dismissed a plea by Turkish-based company Celebi Ground Handling India Private Limited against the Centre's decision to revoke its security clearance. A different Bench of the high court had on July 7 dismissed pleas by Turkey-based firms — Celebi Airport Services India Pvt Ltd and Celebi Delhi Cargo Terminal Management India Pvt Ltd — challenging the revocation of their security clearance by aviation watchdog Bureau of Civil Aviation Safety (BCAS) on May 15. BCAS revoked the security clearance of the companies days after Turkey backed Pakistan and condemned India's strikes on terror camps in the neighbouring country. The company's counsel had told the court that this petition was filed on July 4 after a coordinate Bench reserved its judgment in a similar case involving associated companies. The court on July 7 underlined the necessity to eliminate the possibility of espionage or dual use of logistics capabilities, which would be highly detrimental to the security of the country, especially in the event of an external conflict.
