Philippine public warned against illegal offshore gaming sites

The Star01-07-2025
MANILA: The Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp (Pagcor) on Sunday (June 29) warned the public against illegal offshore gaming websites that claim to be licensed or accredited by the agency.
Pagcor said the fake offshore gaming websites even use its logo and display fabricated licence certificates.
It identified some of the illegal sites as efesbetcasino514.com, OG7777 online gaming (og7777.org), Mpo500.com, QQ88.com, mpo2121.com, Lgolive.com, napolibet.com, KRATOSBET LTD (kratosbet.com); mpossport.com and https://efsanebahis434.com.
Another fraudulent site, https://cazeus2.com/en/responsible-gaming, has been found to be operating from the United Kingdom.
In a statement, Pagcor chair and CEO Alejandro Tengco said, 'these platforms are not authorised to operate under any Pagcor-issued licence. We want to make it very clear that the use of Pagcor's name and logo by these sites is a blatant disrespect to the agency and poses a threat to the public.'
'We urge everyone to remain vigilant and to always verify the legitimacy of any gaming site before engaging in it,' he said.
Tengco reiterated that effective Dec. 31, 2024, all Philippine offshore gaming operators (Pogos) in the country are banned based on an order from President Marcos.
'Any entity claiming to operate under a Pagcor license for offshore gaming is clearly violating the law and should be reported immediately,' the Pagcor official said.
For a list of licensed gaming operators and to stay informed about legitimate gaming activities, the public can visit Pagcor's official website at www.pagcor.ph.
The nationwide Pogo ban was announced by Marcos during his State of the Nation Address in July 2024.
In November, he issued Executive Order (EO) No. 74, which imposed an immediate ban on offshore and internet gaming in the country.
Cited in his EO was a study by the Department of Finance, which noted that Pogo activities significantly outweigh their economic and social benefits because of the risks they pose, including higher crime rates. — Philippine Daily Inquirer/PNA

Philippines population hits 112.7 million, but annual population growth rate slowed to 0.80 per cent

MANILA (Bernama-PNA): The Philippines' population stood at 112,729,484 as of July 1, 2024, according to the official results of the 2024 Census of Population (POPCEN), which President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. declared official, the Philippine News Agency (PNA) reported. Marcos issued Proclamation 973, directing the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA), in coordination with the Presidential Communications Office (PCO), to disseminate the population data by province, city/municipality, and barangay to all concerned government agencies and offices. The census was conducted by the PSA from July to September 2024, using July 1, 2024 as the reference date, according to the proclamation signed by Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin on July 11. The PSA said the population count covered all 18 administrative regions and included Filipinos in embassies, consulates, and missions abroad. The 2024 figure reflects an increase of 3.69 million from the 109.04 million recorded in 2020. The annual population growth rate slowed to 0.80 percent from 2020 to 2024, compared to 1.63 per cent between 2015 and 2020. According to the PSA, the deceleration in population growth may be attributed to lower fertility and birth rates, higher mortality during the Covid-19 pandemic, and reduced migration. The conduct of a mid-decade census was mandated under Executive Order 87. July 2024 was earlier declared National Census and Community-Based Monitoring System Month under Proclamation 627. - Bernama-PNA

Philippines eyes favourable US trade deal as Marcos set to meet Trump

MANILA (Bloomberg): The Philippines hopes to secure a trade agreement with the US when President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. discusses a planned US tariff during his meeting with President Donald Trump in Washington, according to a Manila official. Marcos will also seek to bolster US-Philippine security ties during his July 20-22 visit, Foreign Affairs Assistant Secretary for American Affairs Raquel Solano said at a briefing on Friday. The trip by Marcos, set to be the first Southeast Asian leader to visit Trump during his second presidency, comes after the Trump administration increased the tariff on Philippine goods to the US to 20% from 17% starting in August, raising concern from its longtime ally. Ahead of Marcos, Philippine government officials including Trade Secretary Cristina Roque flew to Washington this week for tariff talks. "We hope of course to arrive at a bilateral trade agreement or a deal on reciprocal trade that is mutually acceptable, mutually beneficial for both our countries,' Solano said. The Philippines initially held trade talks with the US in May in its bid to lower an earlier threatened 17% levy in April. To secure that, Roque had said Manila plans to increase imports of US farm goods, including soybeans and frozen meat, and boost exports of semiconductors, coconut and mango products to the US. "We will continue to underscore that for the Philippines to be a truly strong partner for the United States, we need to be stronger economically as well,' Solano said. Trump and Marcos will discuss "closer cooperation in economic, defense and security matters of common interest,' she added. The issue on the South China Sea, where Manila and Beijing are locked in competing maritime claims, will also be tackled, Solano said, as well the possible deployment of military assets in the region. -- ©2025 Bloomberg L.P.

Philippines' Marcos to discuss trade, security in U.S. visit amid tariff concerns

MANILA: Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr will visit the United States next week to discuss trade and security concerns, including proposed U.S. tariffs on Philippine exports. The trip marks the first by an ASEAN leader since President Donald Trump took office, with economic and defence cooperation high on the agenda. 'The President's official visit also aims to address the U.S. tariff proposed to be levied on Philippine exports,' said Department of Foreign Affairs Assistant Secretary Raquel Solano. Trump recently raised reciprocal tariffs on Philippine goods to 20%, up from the previously threatened 17%. Trade discussions between Philippine and U.S. officials are ongoing in Washington, with hopes of reaching a 'mutually acceptable and mutually beneficial' agreement. Beyond trade, Marcos and Trump will focus on defence cooperation, particularly in the South China Sea, where tensions with China persist. Under Marcos, the Philippines has strengthened ties with the U.S., granting expanded military base access to counter China's regional assertiveness. 'The purpose of this visit is to further strengthen the Philippines-United States Alliance,' Solano added. The two nations share a decades-old mutual defence treaty and conduct frequent joint military exercises, including recent drills involving advanced missile systems. Marcos will also meet U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, and American business leaders investing in the Philippines. - Reuters
