Man shot by Broward deputy after hitting 2 officers faces several felony charges
Joshua Gullatt, 22, was identified Monday as the man who BSO officers shot the day before on the 4000 block of Southwest 26th Street. Gullatt faces a slew of charges, including battery on a law enforcement officer, aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, resisting arrest with violence and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Around 12:20 p.m., BSO spokesman Carey Codd said deputies went to 4017 Southwest 26th Street in West Park to respond to a call of a 'disturbance involving a weapon.' When they arrived, Gullatt punched one of the deputies and knocked him to the ground.
Another deputy tried to subdue Gullatt with a Taser stun gun, Codd added. Gullatt then hit that deputy and ran into a bedroom, arming himself with a 'deadly weapon,' according to the sheriff's office, which did not specify the weapon.
Codd said that's when one of the deputies opened fire and shot Gullatt.
BSO deputies provided first aid before paramedics took him to the hospital. As of Monday evening, he remained in the hospital and his condition was not immediately. There's also no available information on his legal representation.
Paramedics also took the deputy who was hit to the ground to the hospital, where Codd noted he was treated for his injuries and released.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating the shooting by the deputies. BSO's Internal Affairs Unit is also conducting an administrative review of the shooting, according to Codd.
The sheriff's Office Homicide and Crime Scene detectives are investigating the circumstances that led to deputies being called to the scene.
The deputy who fired his weapon is on administrative assignment pending the investigation, Codd said.

Connecticut Office of Inspector General rules Windsor police officer not justified in firing gun at suspect
WINDSOR, Conn. (WTNH) — The Connecticut Office of Inspector General ruled that a Windsor police officer's use of deadly force was not justified after he shot at a man instead of using his Taser outside a convenience store in January. The inspector general said Officer Brandon Thomas, 34, found a 'suspicious' vehicle around 8:20 p.m. in the parking lot of a Tiger Mart gas station at 160 Windsor Ave on Jan. 30, 2025. The Windsor Police Department said Thomas saw a large bag of marijuana in plain view. Two people left the convenience store and walked toward the Jeep Liberty Sport, which had a license plate that matched another vehicle. The inspector general stated that when Thomas approached the pair about the misuse of the license plate, the driver, later identified as 21-year-old Geovanni Nunez, fled. Inspector general: Windsor police officer shot at fleeing suspect instead of using Taser Thomas chased Nunez across Windsor Avenue and into Keney Park. While chasing Nunez, the officer yelled, 'Stop running, or I'm going to f—ing tase you.' He then pulled out his actual firearm from its holster and fired one round at Nunez, the inspector general said. Thomas said, 'Oh, s—, I didn't mean to do that.' Nunez was not hit and was subsequently taken into custody and charged with interfering with the police and possession of a controlled substance. Police said they learned after the incident that Nunez had an outstanding warrant from Meriden police for first-degree assault. Thomas fell into a stream, and his body-worn camera became soaked. The inspector general stated, however, that the recording was recovered. Following his arrest, the inspector general said Nunez accused Thomas of shooting at him, and Thomas denied this, saying that he only used his Taser. 'Under the circumstances…Officer Thomas acted unlawfully and recklessly,' the inspector general said in his report. Thomas was arrested and charged with unlawful discharge of a firearm and second-degree reckless endangerment. He was placed on limited duty after the incident. The Windsor Police Department released a statement on the incident. This was a mistake made in a high-stress, fast-evolving situation. The officer has served with the Windsor Police Department for just over three years and has no prior incidents involving questionable use of force. Scranton man charged with aggravated assault of a city police officer
SCRANTON — A city man pushed, shoved and threw a city police officer to the ground as she attempted to take him into custody Thursday, Scranton police charge. Eddie Charles Brent, 24, of 1522 Washburn St., then fled the scene in a stolen vehicle, according to a criminal complaint. Scranton police apprehended Brent after a brief foot pursuit Saturday. Police charged him with aggravated assault of a police officer, fleeing police and resisting arrest. Officers spotted a gray Ford sedan that fit the description of a stolen car while they were on patrol just before midnight Thursday near Sheetz on Mount Pleasant Drive. Officer Rebecca Kohut confirmed the unoccupied sedan was stolen and requested backup. A man walked out of Sheetz toward the vehicle and remotely unlocked it. Kohut asked the man, later identified as Brent, if the vehicle was his. He said, 'No,' then opened the driver's side door and attempted to get in. Kohut told him to stop and grabbed the handle of the car door to prevent him from closing it. When Kohut opened the door, Brent pushed her. Kohut held onto Brent's arms and sleeves. Brent pushed Kohut to the ground, as she continued to hold onto his wrist. When she got back on her feet, he pushed her and threw her to the ground before getting into the sedan and starting it. Kohut grabbed the door handle and ordered Brent to stop. Officer Brian Lynady approached the vehicle from the passenger side. He was unable to stop Brent, and injured his elbow. Officers were unable to locate the vehicle. On Saturday, officers spotted Brent in the 1700 block of North Keyser Avenue in the stolen vehicle. When Officer Joe Flesher blocked the vehicle in at the Sunoco gas station, Brent took off on foot. Officer T.J. Stornable arrived to assist, following Brent behind a dumpster and drawing his Taser. When Brent began walking toward Flesher, Flesher pushed him against a wall. Officers took him to the ground and arrested him. Officers requested an ambulance for Brent, who was bleeding from the left side of his forehead and elbow.
