Material witness warrant issued in deadly Des Moines hit-and-run case
The Des Moines Police Department is looking for 32-year-old Renato Virves, according to department spokesperson Sgt. Paul Parizek.

Police said Virves was the owner of a van involved in a hit-and-run crash in the 800 block of Army Post Road on October 9, 2024. The eastbound van hit three pedestrians who were crossing the street to the south. Forty-two-year-old Justin Romaine died from injuries received in the crash.
Police located the van shortly after the crash but no driver was found.
DMPD previously asked the public for help locating Virves and investigators have continued to follow leads.

Sha'Carri Richardson arrested earlier this week, jail records show
Sha'Carri Richardson was arrested this week after an incident at the Seattle–Tacoma International Airport, according to jail records. Richardson was booked at the South Correctional Entity in Des Moines, Washington, on Sunday, jail records show. She was released on Monday. No details were given about Richardson's arrest. 'We are aware of the reports and we have no comment at this time,' USA Track and Field said in a statement to USA TODAY Sports. Richardson competed in the 100 meters on Thursday evening of the 2025 U.S. track and field championships and advanced to Friday's semifinal. She's withdrawn from the 100 semifinal and will not run in the 200 either. Richardson has a bye into the 100 at this year's world championships because she is the defending champion. The six-bedroom, 7 1/2-bathroom lakefront mansion in Palm Beach, Florida, once owned by Epstein, is no more — the multimillion-dollar home was demolished after his death in 2019. Gary Busey pleads guilty to criminal charge for unwanted touching
Actor Gary Busey is pleading guilty in a sexual misconduct case in New Jersey. Busey, 81, made a virtual appearance in New Jersey Superior Court Thursday, July 31, and entered a guilty plea to one charge of fourth-degree criminal sexual contact, Busey's attorney Blair R. Zwillman confirmed to USA TODAY on Aug. 1. With the plea, Busey has admitted to "touching the buttocks of a woman without her permission," Zwillman said. The case stems from his August 2022 appearance at the Monster-Mania Convention, where several woman accused him of inappropriately touching them. The "Buddy Holly Story" actor initially faced five criminal charges in the case and pleaded not guilty during a March arraignment, court records show. Prosecutors have since dismissed the other charges. The actor was "overcharged" by county prosecutors due to his "celebrity status," Zwillman said, adding that his client should have faced a lower-level charge such as a disorderly persons offense for harassment. USA TODAY has reached out to the Camden County Prosecutor's Office for comment. Busey was nominated for an Oscar for his portrayal of Buddy Holly in 1978's "The Buddy Holly Story." Aside from his film credits, which include "Point Break" and "Lethal Weapon," he's also forayed into reality television. In 2014, he won Season 14 of the U.K. show "Celebrity Big Brother."
