Pak spy accused vlogger Jyoti Malhotra visited Kerala on govt invitation, reveals RTI
Malhotra was part of a tourism promotion campaign organised by the Kerala Tourism Department, which funded a group of social media influencers to enhance the state's digital visibility as a travel destination.
The RTI response confirms that Malhotra's travel, stay, and itinerary expenses were fully covered by the department during her visit.
As per official records, Jyoti Malhotra toured Kannur, Kozhikode, Kochi, Alappuzha, and Munnar between 2024 and 2025 under the government's influencer collaboration initiative. Her participation was listed alongside several other digital creators active between January 2024 and May 2025.
Investigations have since revealed that Malhotra had travelled to Pakistan multiple times and had established contacts with officials from Pakistani intelligence agencies, including personnel from the Pakistan High Commission. One such official was later expelled by India after their association came to light.
Malhotra is one of 12 individuals arrested across Punjab, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh as part of a coordinated crackdown on a suspected spy ring that allegedly targeted Indian social media influencers to gather intelligence.
Her YouTube channel, 'Travel with Jo', hosts 487 videos, many of which are from Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Thailand.
Notably, one of her earlier viral videos featured her wearing a Kerala sari and attending a Theyyam performance in Kannur. (ANI)

Suspicious Pak boat off Raigad coast turns out to be buoy
Navi Mumbai: Raigad police beefed up security along the coastline after the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) Delhi informed the ICG at Murud in Raigad district that a suspicious 'Pakistani' fishing boat has been spotted in the Arabian Sea about 3 nautical miles near Korlai Fort in Murud taluka on Sunday around 9pm. However, after a police probe, it was learnt that it was not a boat but a fishing net buoy or floater, which is attached to a fishing boat to keep the net afloat. The buoy had accidentally detached from some fishing boat and drifted away about five months ago, said Raigad superintendent of police Anchal Dalal. As GPS trackers are usually installed in buoys used for fishing activity, efforts are being taken to trace it. The ICG, along with helicopters, and more than 600 police personnel are also patrolling the coastline to trace the buoy. A similar incident was reported by the ICG on Jan 3 off the Okha coast in Gujarat. Raigad police immediately set into action. Two teams of Rapid Response Force and Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad were despatched with instructions to carry out patrolling and search operations. A total of 19 armed cops were deployed at various checkpoints in the coastal and creek areas. All vehicles were checked during nakabandi, and even hotels, lodges and resorts were checked. Instructions were also given to local fishermen and citizens to look out for suspicious boats. "Following the information received, efforts were made to locate the missing boat in coordination with the Indian Navy, Indian Coast Guard, Maharashtra Maritime Board, Customs department, and fisheries department. We have now sought information on the fishing net buoy from the agencies," Dalal said. 'Don't see other risks, Sebi is upgrading surveillance': Chairman Tuhin Kanta Pandey
MUMBAI: Sebi chief Tuhin Kanta Pandey on Monday assured investors there were not many other risks in the market like the one seen recently in the event of market manipulation by US-based quant fund Jane Street. The chairman of of the markets regulator was speaking to the media after inaugurating a new investor empowerment facility on the apps run by the two depositories, CDSL and NSDL. Late on Thursday Sebi through an enforcement order had temporarily banned Jane Street and three of its affiliates from the Indian market for manipulation in stocks and futures & options (F&O) markets. The regulator had also asked the entities to together disgorge nearly Rs 4,850 crore, alleged to be Jane Street's illegal gains. Asked if there were other similar funds that have manipulated the market, Sebi chief said he didn't think there were "very many other risks." Pandey said that what happened in the Jane Street matter was a surveillance issue, and the regulator was upgrading its surveillance systems. A day earlier, the markets regulator had said that along with Sebi, the two leading bourses were also in the process of upgrading their surveillance systems so that cases like Jane Street did not occur. He had also assured investors that Sebi will not tolerate any attempt at market manipulation. The Sebi chief also said that the action it took against Jane Street was within the confines of the regulatory powers. Pandey also said that was not the regulatory powers but better surveillance and enforcement systems which would act as deterrents against market manipulators.

HC grants bail to ITR espionage accused
Cuttack: In a development related to Chandipur espionage case, the Orissa high court granted bail to Basanta Kumar Behera, a contractual air conditioning operator at the Integrated Test Range (ITR), Chandipur, who had been in custody since Sept 2021 for allegedly spying for a Pakistani agent. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Behera was one of four DRDO contractual employees arrested in the sensational case that was initially investigated by the state police and later transferred to the State CID-Crime Branch. The case involved allegations of leaking sensitive missile testing information to a foreign handler. Justice Gourishankar Satapathy, while granting bail on July 1, underscored the importance of the constitutional right to a speedy trial under Article 21. The court observed, "If the state is unable to provide a speedy trial, it should not oppose the plea of bail merely on the ground that the crime committed is serious." The court noted that Behera had earlier availed interim bail on two occasions without violating any of the imposed conditions. Considering his prolonged incarceration, his compliant conduct during interim release, and the bail already granted to co-accused Sachin Kumar Chhata and Tapas Ranjan Nayak, the court found sufficient grounds to approve Behera's bail application. Advocate Ashutosh Mishra, appearing on Behera's behalf, confirmed that all necessary procedures are being expedited for his client's release. "As of now, Basanta Kumar Behera is in Balasore Jail. We are in the process of fulfilling the bail conditions, and he is expected to be released within a day or two," Mishra told TOI on Monday. Behera was granted bail on a personal bond of Rs 5 lakh with two solvent sureties. He has been directed to report to the local police station once every fortnight for the next six months, preferably on Sundays. Additionally, he must not leave the jurisdiction of the trial court without prior permission and is required to submit his current residential address, mobile number, and other relevant details to both the court and investigating agency. The trial, currently pending before the 3rd additional sessions judge in Balasore, has made little progress in the past nearly four years.
