Council announces £3.4m transport improvements

Yahoo23-03-2025
A Dorset council is investing £3.4m in more sustainable transport links.
Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole Council announced plans after gaining government funding.
The work includes construction of new walking and cycling paths, crossings, a road junction and street lighting improvements.
The upgrades will be carried out at Redhill Roundabout and the Muscliffe Lane and Castle Lane West junction.
In a statement, the authority said it will form part of a "sustainable travel route" between Merley, Poole and Christchurch.
It said engineers would be reusing existing road materials, and new traffic signals would be refurbished to use more energy efficient technology.
The go ahead for the work comes after a public consultation between February and June 2021 and the authority said all responses "were analysed to help shape the final scheme designs".
Councillor Rich Herrett said: "Redhill Roundabout is a busy pinch point for cars and navigating it by bike or foot can be daunting.
"The new paths and crossings will enable people, including local schoolchildren, to walk and cycle safely around the roundabout away from traffic and continue their onward journeys to Northbourne, Moordown and Muscliff."
He added the improvements to Wimborne Road would ensure "the road remains fit for purpose for the thousands of cars and vehicles using it every day".
The first phase of roadworks will start on 31 March along Wimborne Road from Northbourne Roundabout to Ferncroft Road and is expected to take a month.
Improvements to the junction of Muscliffe Lane and Castle Lane West then follow in May, as well as resurfacing in Wimborne Road from Redhill Roundabout to just east off Muscliffe Lane.
The final phase, due to start in June, will focus on the improvements at Redhill Roundabout.
The work is expected to be finished by October.

Animal 'wanted' for stealing Grand Teton National Park campers' shoes

"What does the fox do with the shoes? We still don't know," Grand Teton National Park officials said in an Instagram post on July 10. This mischievous animal has an impressive shoe collection. On July 10, officials from Grand Teton National Park shared on Instagram that campers' footwear had gone missing. The prime suspect? A fox. The social media post says that the animal has stashed at least 32 shoes. "What does the fox do with the shoes? We still don't know," the post reads. "Maybe it's a toy. Maybe it's a nesting material collection. Maybe it's fashion." The post continued: "Whatever the reason, one thing is clear: the more time this fox spends around humans, the more dangerous things get for the fox." Park issues guidelines for campers Officials are warning campers to store their shoes in their tents or vehicles. They posted lighthearted "Wanted for Grand Theft Footwear" posters with a sketch of a fox around the park; however, the park shared reminders for campers interacting with wildlife: "Even unintentional behavior like leaving shoes out 'just in case he visits' teaches wildlife that people = opportunity. And that can lead to relocation… or worse," the park's post continued. Taylor Ardrey is a news reporter for USA TODAY. You can reach her at tardrey@

Sabrina Carpenter Is Living La Dolce Vita—With Vacation Style to Match

Following the globe-spanning Short n' Sweet tour and ahead of her forthcoming album, Man's Best Friend, Sabrina Carpenter is on a well-deserved vacation. The singer jetted off to Italy, where—to nobody's surprise—she brought a fabulous, La Dolce Vita-inspired wardrobe to match. For an itinerary that consisted of lounging on balconies, drinking goblet-sized spritzes, eating bowls of pasta, and petting stray cats, Carpenter brought along whimsical summer staples: minidresses, bikinis, bloomers, and matching sets galore. Like her tour wardrobe, the singer embraced a delicate color palette, mainly sticking to white, baby pink, and butter yellow, but every so often she punctuated her pastels with sporadic splashes of black and red. Courtesy of @sabrinacarpenter on Instagram Lightweight pieces were central to Carpenter's Euro summer wardrobe. (Because, when forgoing air conditioning…) See: the open knit off-the-shoulder long-sleeve she wore over a polka-dot bikini top, and the semi-sheer black and white minidress she paired with a black newsboy cap.

Model Mia Regan's H&M Collab Is An Ibiza-Inspired 'Dream Summer Wardrobe'

If your summer plans include beach days, hiking, music festivals, dancing, and dining al fresco, then H&M's new collaboration launching July 17 needs to be on your radar — and in your shopping cart ASAP. British model, content creator, and long-time friend of the retailer Mia Regan has co-designed her 'dream summer wardrobe,' she tells Refinery29. And it's the versatile, travel-ready capsule of our dreams, too. While Regan's Instagram is full of editorials and fashion events, it also highlights her travel adventures and film photography. Often spotted in staple headscarves and hiking shoes on her escapades, Regan's lifestyle and style are reflected in the collection. As she explains, 'I wanted to design it so you could wear it to a festival or on a hike, or out to dinner or drinks with your girls.' From utilitarian capris, which came easily to her, to breezy pieces like a sarong detailed with her hand-drawn illustrations, Regan was hands-on throughout, submitting sketches and collaborating with the Stockholm team. 'I take my film camera everywhere,' she says. 'One of the illustrations is actually from a picture I took on an H&M trip in Portugal — it's me and my friend lying down, and I drew that.'
