Residents want MAGA musician's concert at Parks Canada historic site cancelled

Yahoo6 days ago
Some residents are calling on Parks Canada to cancel a performance by a U.S. singer and rising star in the MAGA movement at a national historic site near Halifax this week.
Christian rocker Sean Feucht has a concert scheduled for Wednesday night at the York Redoubt National Historic Site, a fortification constructed in 1793 to help protect the port city. It sits on a cliff overlooking the harbour.
Feucht, who unsuccessfully ran for U.S. congress as a Republican in 2020, is also a missionary and an author who has spoken out against the 2SLGBTQ+ community, abortion rights and critical race theory on his website.
"What I want to know is how this got approved in the first place," said Larry Stewart, who lives in Fergusons Cove, a small community next to the historical site.
Stewart is one of several residents who have voiced opposition to the planned concert, which they said goes against Parks Canada's guiding principles of inclusion and safety for all visitors.
"It's completely inappropriate," said Eleanor Kure, a longtime resident of the area.
Feucht has called for government policy in the United States to be based on traditional Christian values in the midst of a "spiritual war" in that country.
His website calls on young people to stand up against the "progressive agenda being forced upon America."
The concert at the York Redoubt site on Wednesday kicks off a national tour Feucht said marks the "Summer of Revival in the nation of Canada."
"I think it's very upsetting," said resident Nancy Hunter.
Feucht did not respond to a request for comment from CBC News.
MP urges Parks Canada to cancel
The residents who spoke to CBC News said they've never seen a concert being held at York Redoubt National Historic Site before.
They said they only learned about the event after Parks Canada sent out an email over the weekend warning residents about potential noise and parking issues.
Parks Canada did not respond before deadline to questions about how the concert came to be scheduled.
Shannon Miedema, the Liberal MP for the area, declined an interview request.
In an email to a resident that was provided to CBC News, Miedema said she's urging Parks Canada to cancel the concert after hearing from several constituents.
"I have the utmost respect for the value of free speech, I do not believe this event aligns with Parks Canada's core values of respect for people, equity, diversity and inclusion, or integrity," the email read.
The statement said Miedema is working with the appropriate parties to try to ensure the concert doesn't proceed.
If it does go ahead, residents said they'll protest the event.
"I'll be there. Maybe with the Canadian flag. Maybe with a Pride flag," said Stewart.

Oklahoma state superintendent under investigation after board members report seeing naked women on his office TV

Oklahoma's controversial state superintendent is under investigation after state Board of Education members alleged they saw images of naked women on his office's television during a closed meeting last Thursday. State Superintendent Ryan Walters, the fiery Republican pick leading one of the nation's lowest-ranked education systems, was in the middle of a meeting during an executive session of the Oklahoma State Board of Education when images of naked women allegedly popped up on his television screen, two board members told The Oklahoman. 4 Pictures of naked women were allegedly seen on a television behind Oklahoma State Superintendent Ryan Walters during a meeting last Thursday. BRYAN TERRY/THE OKLAHOMAN / USA TODAY NETWORK via Imagn Images One of the board members said she could barely believe what she was seeing. 'And I was like, 'Those are naked women'. And then I was like, 'No, wait a minute. Those aren't naked, surely those aren't naked women. Something is playing a trick on my eye. Maybe they just have on tan body suits. This is just really bizarre',' board member Becky Carson told the outlet. 'I saw them just walking across the screen, and I'm like, 'No.' I'm sorry I even have to use this language, but I'm like, 'Those are her nipples.' And then I'm like, 'That's pubic hair.' What in the world am I watching? I didn't watch a second longer. I was so disturbed by it, I was like, 'What is on your TV?' I was very stern, like I'd been a mother or a classroom teacher. And I said, 'What am I watching? Turn it off now!'' Ryan Deatherage, another board member, added that Walters was sitting with his back to the television, so he wasn't able to see the alleged X-rated video in the moment. 4 Walters has denied all allegations about the situation — calling them 'falsehoods.' DOUG HOKE/THE OKLAHOMAN / USA TODAY NETWORK via Imagn Images 'I am in shock and I'm not wanting to distract them. I'm trying to listen. Quite frankly, I didn't know how to handle it. I was just in shock. I was being human and I didn't know what to think. I kept thinking that it was just going to go away and so I quit watching it,' Deatherage told the outlet. Carson wound up having to tell Walters about the lewd images lingering on the screen behind him, which he then shut off without any explanation or apology. Walters later issued a statement Sunday denying all claims as 'categorically false.' 4 Two Oklahoma Board of Education members claimed that Walters offered no apology or explanation for the bizarre images. AP 'These falsehoods are the desperate tactics of a broken establishment afraid of real change. They aren't just attacking me, they're attacking the values of the Oklahomans who elected me to challenge the status quo. I will not be distracted. My focus remains on making Oklahoma the best state in the nation, in every category,' Walters said. Other members of the board told the outlet that while they didn't see the images themselves, Walters appeared 'shook up' and 'flustered or embarrassed' by whatever Carson pointed out. Walters, a staunch conservative, has previously made national headlines for his stances and policies in Oklahoma schools. He repeatedly sought to enforce strict rules about what's permitted inside the classroom, including restrictions against LGBTQ+ students that have come under fire from critics on the left. 4 Walters is best known for the anti-LGBTQ+ policies he's put forward, along with other rules loosening restrictions on Christian education in public schools. DOUG HOKE/THE OKLAHOMAN / USA TODAY NETWORK via Imagn Images At the same time, he's loosened prohibitions on the separation of church and state by requiring the Bible to be taught in public schools as a 'historical document.' Deatherage and Carson said Walters should hold himself to the same standards he enforces on educators, noting that the board has 'suspended teaching certificates for less than this.' It's unclear who may have been responsible for the racy images and why they were bizarrely featured on the government office's system. The investigation into the incident is being led by the Office of Management and Enterprise Services.

Trump blasts Democrats over what he calls the ‘Epstein SCAM' and ‘CON JOB'

A furious President Donald Trump has once again blasted 'Radical Left Democrats' over the ongoing fallout of the so-called 'Epstein files,' describing it as a 'SCAM' and a 'CON JOB.' In a late-night post on Truth Social Thursday, the president fumed over what he claims is an attempt to 'distract and obfuscate' from his administration's first 'GREAT six months of service to America ... the results of which many are saying is the BEST six months in Presidential history.' '[The Democrats] have gone absolutely CRAZY, and are playing another Russia, Russia, Russia Hoax but, this time, under the guise of what we will call the Jeffrey Epstein SCAM,' Trump bellowed online. 'As things are revealed and, I hope will take place quickly, you will see that it is yet another Democrat CON JOB. Hopefully, the Grand Jury Files will put an end to this HOAX. Everyone should see what is there, but people who are innocent should not be hurt. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!' The president has become increasingly frustrated in recent weeks at the persistence of the controversy, which is largely fueled by his own MAGA support base. Supporters have demanded total transparency on a so-called 'client list' belonging to the late sex offender, which is alleged to contain the details of his associates. Conspiracy theorists have long demanded its release, but now the Trump administration says there is no evidence any such list exists, despite Attorney General Pam Bondi having said in February the evidence was on her desk for review. A number of MAGA acolytes were furious after the DOJ released a two-page memo claiming the alleged list did not exist and that Epstein had indeed died by suicide while awaiting trial for sex-trafficking in Manhattan. Earlier this week, The Wall Street Journal reported that Trump had been told in May by Bondi that his name appeared in the Epstein Files 'multiple times'. The president denied such claims to reporters earlier this month. While Trump has not been accused of any formal wrongdoing or charged with any crime, his proximity to Epstein, someone he once called a friend, has heightened conspiracy theories that the government is withholding documents that could reveal embarrassing information about high-profile individuals. Thursday's post echoed a previous one made earlier this month, in which the president labelled the Epstein files controversy as a "hoax" and "bulls***," as well as criticizing members of his own party who called for more transparency. "[T]hese Scams and Hoaxes are all the Democrats are good at - It's all they have - They are no good at governing, no good at policy, and no good at picking winning candidates," he wrote. "Also, unlike Republicans, they stick together like glue. Their new SCAM is what we will forever call the Jeffrey Epstein Hoax, and my PAST supporters have bought into this 'bullshit,' hook, line, and sinker." The president's most recent outburst comes after Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche met with Epstein's former girlfriend and accomplice Ghislaine Maxwell in Florida earlier Friday. The former British socialite's lawyer, David Oscar Markus, did not take questions following the meeting, but said Maxwell 'never declined to answer' and did not invoke any privilege during the meeting. Prior to the meeting he said the team was looking forward to a 'productive day.' Blanche said he's expecting to further question Maxwell on Friday.
