Hercules Wimbledon runners win multiple medals at South of England Championships
Hercules Wimbledon's junior squad impressed both at home and abroad this weekend, with regional and national medals aplenty. The South of England Championships hosted a number of distance events in Chelmsford, with Hercules winning four 3000m medals on the Sunday. Advertisement Anna Wait kicked off the medal glut with an outstanding second place in the under-15 girls, taking an outstanding 19 seconds off her best over the distance to run 10:19.27, over eight seconds clear of third. Minutes later it was the turn of Theo Creed in the boys' equivalent of the same age group. Creed, who has the second-best time in his age group in the country so far this year, dominated the field to win by over 12 seconds in 9:11.94 and take the southern title. It means he has now won titles at an area, national, and UK level in the last two years, further cementing his position as one of the nation's best up-and-coming prospects. Advertisement Thomas Hennigan was 11th in the same race, clocking 9:56.94. Isabella Harrison ensured that the titles continued, again dominating her under-17 women's field to win by almost 14 seconds, the only athlete in the field to break 10 minutes in 9:48.97. Leah Paulson was eighth (11:16.62). Max Barckhahn continues to make an almighty impression on the junior ranks at Wimbledon, recording a new personal best in far from ideal sweltering conditions to win bronze in the under-17 men's. His time of 9:04.30 saw him three seconds clear of fourth in only his first season competing for Hercules. Further afield, under-20 Pancho Panchev earned two national medals at the Bulgarian U20 Championships, a competition he qualifies for by heritage. Advertisement On day one he was a hugely comfortable winner over the 3000m steeplechase, thus qualifying for the Balkan Championships, before coming back one day later to take 5000m silver. Fellow under-20 Jack Hobden recorded a new personal best of 15:35 at the Battersea Top Flight event on Wednesday night, finishing 63rd in an all-elite field. Earlier in the month, though missing from our latest report, Alex Milne recorded a hugely impressive sixth place at perhaps the most famous ultra-marathon in global running, the Comrades Marathon, running the 90km from Pietermaritzburg to Durban in a staggering 5:32:09. Milne was ninth in last year's edition that saw athletes head in the opposite direction and with his seventh place finish at last year's World 100km Championships, he can rightly claim his place amongst the finest ultrarunners on the planet.

Michigan football lands elite 4-star WR over Miami, Stanford
The post Michigan football lands elite 4-star WR over Miami, Stanford appeared first on ClutchPoints. The Michigan football team picked up a huge commitment on Wednesday as four-star wide receiver Zion Robinson announced that he will play for the Wolverines. Michigan has had trouble landing elite WRs in past years, but head coach Sherrone Moore and WR coach Ron Bellamy did not miss here. Robinson picked the Wolverines over Miami and Stanford. Advertisement 'BREAKING: Four-Star WR Zion Robinson has Committed to Michigan, he tells me for @on3recruits,' Hayes Fawcett said in a post. 'The 6'4 185 WR from Mansfield, TX chose the Wolverines over Miami & Stanford.' Robinson is a four-star recruit, according to 247Sports. He is the #71 player in the 2026 class, the #6 WR and the #10 player in the state of Texas. Robinson currently attends Mansfield High School in Mansfield, TX. Michigan is pretty far away from home. 'Tall outside target pushing 6-foot-3 with excellent multi-sport athletic context in basketball and track and field,' Robinson's scouting report reads. 'More polished pass catchers are out there but very few boast this combination of above-the-rim hardwood context, a state championship high jump gold medal, and corresponding high-level athleticism in pads. Frame and explosion foster contested-catch dominance.' Robinson should end up being a major impact player at Michigan, and he has pro potential as well. Advertisement 'Displays sneaky run-after-catch effectiveness relative to frame and straight-line top-end gear,' his scouting report continues. 'Shows adequate acceleration that times requires a build-up runway, but leads to breakaway long speed. 'Still developing hands consistency and route technique, but showed encouraging signs during junior season and Spring 2025 elite camp evaluation. A particularly high-ceiling outside receiver prospect who could become an impact player in college with long-term pro potential.' This is a big get for the Michigan football team, and more commits are going to be coming soon. The Wolverines are on commit watch for two other prospects, and their decisions should become public in the coming days. Michigan recruiting is heating up. 84-game seasons, shorter contracts coming to NHL under new collective bargaining agreement
Get Starting Point A guide through the most important stories of the morning, delivered Monday through Friday. Enter Email Sign Up Related : Advertisement The extension through 2030 provides the sport extended labor peace since the last lockout in 2012-13, which shortened that season to 48 games. Here is what is changing: Longer season Going from 82 to 84 games beginning in 2026-27 — making the season 1,344 total games — is expected to include a reduction in exhibition play, to four games apiece for the 32 teams. The additions would be played within divisions, evening out the schedule to ensure four showdowns each season between rivals like Toronto and Boston, Dallas and Colorado, and Washington and Pittsburgh. Currently, there is a rotation that has some division opponents facing off only three times a season. Advertisement That imbalance is coming to an end, and this is not the first time the NHL has had an 84-game season. The league experimented with that in 1992-93 and '93-94, when each team added a pair of neutral site games. BOSTON, MA - MAY 28, 2025: .Warrior Arena in Boston, Boston Bruins goaltender Jeremy Swayman returns after he led US to gold medal at worlds. (David L Ryan/Globe Staff ) SECTION: SPORTS David L. Ryan/Globe Staff Shorter contracts Since 2013, players have been able to re-sign with their own team for up to eight years and sign with another for up to seven. Under the new CBA, each would be reduced by a year, to seven for re-signing and six for changing teams. Top players, given the injury risks in the sport, have preferred the longest contracts possible. The same goes for general managers, eager to keep talent in the fold as long as possible. But with the salary cap getting its biggest increases season by season over the next three years, the thinking had already begun to change. Auston Matthews re-signed for only four years with Toronto last summer, and Connor McDavid could also opt for a short-term contract extension with Edmonton. Steven Stamkos and the Lightning were among the teams in recent years to take advantage of the salary cap rules — or lack thereof — in the playoffs. Phelan M. Ebenhack/Associated Press Playoff cap Currently, teams with players on long-term injured reserve can exceed the salary cap by roughly the amount of the players' salaries until the playoffs begin. Several times over the past decade, Stanley Cup contenders have used LTIR to activate players at the start of or early in the playoffs after they missed some or all of the regular season. Florida did so with Matthew Tkachuk before winning the second of back-to-back titles, Vegas has done it with Mark Stone on multiple occasions, as has Tampa Bay with Nikita Kucherov and Chicago with Patrick Kane. Advertisement The rule has been criticized as an unfair loophole, a way to stockpile talent and then add even more for the postseason. After he and Carolina were eliminated by the Lightning in 2021, Dougie Hamilton quipped that the Hurricanes 'lost to a team that's $18 million over the cap.' Tampa Bay went back to back, and players wore T-shirts with that saying on it during their Cup celebration. That will no longer be possible, though it's not exactly clear how it will work.
