THE historic Great Yarmouth Pier is in the midst of a makeover.
Its pier along the Golden Mile seafront has been open since 1901, and thanks to new funding, it has undergone a major transformation with more to come.

Britannia Pier was always recognisable from the huge advertisements of its upcoming shows and celebrity performers, to its orange 1970s style sign lettering.
After £1.8million worth of funding, it now has a new look.
The building is sleek and white with grey letters and detailing, looking worlds away from the facade it has had for a number of years.
The original wooden Britannia Pier was built in Great Yarmouth in 1858, but was demolished in 1899.
In 1901, a new steel and timber frame was constructed but was destroyed after a series of fires and rebuilt.
Then in 2022, the pier was bought by Triangle Amusements who applied for planning permission to upgrade the site.
Since then, there has been a new amusement arcade and a new front.
And a second phase of work is expected to start in October 2025, which will focus on the food stalls and cabin.
Despite the ongoing works, the pier is open during the summer and ready for business too.
Comedy acts including Jimmy Carr, top tribute acts including Abba, Whitney Houston, Queen and Elvis will be hitting the pier.

There's also a Summy Kids Party event (tickets £3) taking place every Wednesday from 6.30-9.30pm before the free fireworks display.
Great Yarmouth has everything you need for a classic British beach break.
Last year, Sun readers put together their favourite spots that you just cannot miss like the Joyland amusement park.
There you'll find the Super Snails ride, Tubs, Jet Cars, Spook Express and Neptune's Kingdom as well as slush drinks and ice-creams.
Another reader suggested the Breydon Water nature reserve.
When it comes to beaches, one of the favourites is the nearby Goreleston-on-Sea that they said is "considerably more quiet."
They went on to add that it's a "lovely sandy beach and has a nice restaurant called The Fig which is a pizzeria/Greek restaurant overlooking the beach."
Plus, the English town home to the world's largest fish and chip shop.
And the cheap UK seaside towns that Sun Travel loves – where a day out for the whole family costs from just £25.

But instead of splashing out on a wall mural, like the Wallart one above that costs £247, she decided to give it a go herself. Using some leftover paint she had at home and a pencil she created a Minecraft masterpiece and shared it on social media. "My wee boy wanted a Minecraft room and I couldn't find <inecraft wallpaper so I tried to paint a wall," she wrote. READ MORE ON HOMES SUN SAVERS Three budget ways to brighten up your home without splashing out on furniture She first painted half of the wall blue to represent the sky, adding some white squares to look like the clouds in Minecraft. Once done, she stencilled the Minecraft logo on to the middle of the wall and used grey and black paint to create a shadow effect. For the bottom of the wall, she used a mix of green and brown paints to recreate the cubes of earth and grass found in the game. But instead of forking out for ten different paints, she decided to use tester pots to save cash. She added: "For anyone wanting to have a go themselves, I used Johnstone paint tester pots from B&M for the bottom as it was cheaper than buying whole tins. "And I used old paint I already had for the top (it is DIY on a budget after all)." I asked ChatGPT how to transform my bedroom in a single step - all I needed was a Homebase buy & now it's like paradise For a final finishing touch she bought her son some Minecraft bedding. Diogo Jota's funeral to be held where he got married less than two weeks ago

Diogo Jota's funeral will be held on Friday in the same place he got married less than two weeks ago. Jota and his brother, Andre Silva, lost their lives in a car crash in northern Spain in the early hours of Thursday morning. As the brothers overtook another vehicle the Lamborghini they were in crashed due to a tyre blowout and caught fire. Both the 28-year-old Diogo and the 25-year-old Andre died at the scene. The Liverpool and Portugal married his long-term partner Rute Cardoso on June 22 in Sao Cosme, in his home city of Porto. His funeral will take place in Sao Cosme at 4pm on the day after he lost his life, just 12 days after he was married there. On Thursday afternoon, hearses were seen pulling up to a funeral home in Puebla de Sanabria, the town in north-western Spain where the bodies of Diogo and Andre were taken. The couple were married with their three children in attendance: sons Dinis, born in 2021, and Duarte, born 2023, and a daughter, born in 2024 whose name has not been released. Jota and Cardoso had been in a relationship since 2012, and are childhood sweethearts, having attended the same high school together in Porto. In his last post on social media prior to his death, Jota shared an emotional video from the pair's wedding day, captioning the post: 'A day we will never forget'. Jota and his brother were driving on their way back to England as they planned to travel by ferry due to doctors advising the Liverpool star not to fly after minor surgery. Rui Laura of CNN Portugal explained: 'The surgery he had had was lung surgery and he had been advised against flying following this. 'He was on his way to the northern Spanish port city of Santander to cross the ferry and reach the UK that way and carry on with the car once he reached Britain.' The tributes for Jota have been numerous, with Liverpool's Andy Robertson providing one as moving as any to his departed friend. The Scot wrote on Instagram: 'The ones I'm thinking about most right now are the family. Their loss is too much to bear. I'm so sorry that they have lost two such precious souls – Diogo and Andre. 'For the team and the Club, we'll try to cope with this together… however long that takes. 'For me, I want to talk about my mate. My buddy. The bloke I loved and will miss like crazy. 'I could talk about him as a player for hours, but none of that feels like it matters right now. 'It's the man. The person. He was such a good guy. The best. So genuine. Just normal and real. 'Full of love for the people he cared about. Full of fun. 'He was the most British foreign player I've ever met. We used to joke he was really Irish… I'd try to claim him as Scottish, obviously. I even called him Diogo MacJota. 'We'd watch the darts together, enjoy the horse racing. Going to Cheltenham this season was a highlight – one of the best we had. More Trending 'The last time I saw him was the happiest day of his life – his wedding day. I want to remember his never-ceasing smile from that magical day. How much he was bursting with love for his wife and family. 'I can't believe we're saying goodbye. It's too soon, and it hurts so much. 'But thank you for being in my life, mate – and for making it better. 'Love you, Diogo.❤️' MORE: Wimbledon allow players to break strict rule after tragic Diogo Jota death MORE: Who was Andre Silva?
