Bahrain: Unlicensed Hajj Trip Ends In Two Deaths
The ruling, handed down by the Second Lower Criminal Court and backed by the High Criminal Appeals Court, has now been upheld by the Court of Cassation.
He took 80 people on the pilgrimage in 2023, charging each BD500. Neither the group nor its organiser had permission to travel under any recognised Hajj operator.
The case surfaced after the Ministry of Justice, Islamic Affairs and Waqf raised a complaint during its routine checks on Hajj operations for the 1444 Hijri season.
That year's pilgrimage, which fell in 2023, brought the man's unsanctioned tour to light.
Two Bahraini pilgrims who died during the trip were later found to have travelled with the group in question. They were not listed among those authorised by the relevant bodies.

Saar Crash Driver Hit With New Sentence: Total Prison Time Now 9 Years
A Bahraini man has been sentenced to nine years in prison for causing a horrific car accident in Saar that killed a couple and their young son, and left two other children from the same family seriously injured. The tragedy happened on May 30, 2025, when the man—driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol—was speeding and going the wrong way. He slammed head-on into the family's car, leading to the heartbreaking loss of three lives and serious injuries to the two surviving children. Investigations by the Public Prosecution revealed that the driver had taken narcotics before getting behind the wheel. A separate search of his home by the Drug Enforcement Unit uncovered cannabis (hashish), confirming he had illegal drugs in his possession. The man faced two separate cases in court: In the traffic case, the Seventh Lower Criminal Court sentenced him to six years in prison, revoked his driver's license, and ordered the confiscation of the vehicle used in the crash. In the drug possession case, the First Lower Criminal Court gave him an additional three years in prison, a BD3,000 fine, and ordered the confiscation of the seized drugs. The charges against him included: Causing death by reckless driving under the influence Driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol Speeding more than 30% over the limit Ignoring traffic signs and driving the wrong way Causing serious injury to others Damaging property and endangering lives Possessing illegal drugs for personal use The courts described his actions as highly dangerous and reckless, emphasizing that the punishment serves as a message about the serious consequences of driving under the influence.

UAE Central Bank Fines Foreign Bank Branch Dh600,000 For Breaching Market Conduct Rules
The Central Bank of the UAE (CBUAE) has imposed a financial penalty of Dh600,000 on a branch of a foreign bank operating in the country, following regulatory violations. The sanction was issued under Article 137 of Decretal Federal Law No. (14) of 2018, which governs the Central Bank and the regulation of financial institutions in the UAE. According to the CBUAE, the decision followed a supervisory examination that found the bank branch had failed to comply with the UAE's Market Conduct and Consumer Protection Regulations and Standards. The Central Bank emphasised that such enforcement action aligns with its broader mandate to uphold transparency and integrity within the local banking system. 'The CBUAE works to ensure that all banks and their staff adhere to UAE laws and regulations to protect the financial system and consumers,' the regulator said in a statement issued on Wednesday, July 16. While the name of the foreign bank has not been publicly disclosed, the fine reflects the CBUAE's continued focus on compliance and accountability within the UAE's financial sector. The penalty is part of the regulator's ongoing efforts to monitor market conduct and ensure that institutions meet high standards of consumer protection and responsible banking practices.
