John Mulaney Explains Why He Declined Offer to Host 2024 Oscars
While appearing on Marc Maron's WTF podcast on Monday — the same episode in which Maron announced his podcast would be ending after 16 years — the comedian explained why he decided not to emcee the awards show.

'Well, I was very flattered. They came to me, must have been last summer. And I knew Jimmy Kimmel wasn't gonna do it. And they offered it,' he began. 'And it was honestly that I had a lot going on. And it's months and months of work.'
The Hollywood Reporter had reported that the first outreach had gone to Kimmel, who's already emceed the Academy Awards four times. But Kimmel ultimately said no, as he reportedly did hosting this year's Emmy awards, which also aired on ABC.
Conan O'Brien went on to to host the 97th Academy Awards. Mulaney sang O'Brien's praises for his hosting tenure. 'He came out and he not only was so funny, but he elevated the show to the point that I almost convinced myself I had seen these movies and I'd seen not a one of them,' he quipped.
Maron added he was also proud O'Brien 'just locked in and owned the fucking thing' when hosting rather than resort to 'self-erasing,' which Maron says he has noticed with O'Brien because he's known him for so long and has watched him 'do a joke' then 'kind of take it apart.'
Mulaney recently launched the Netflix talk show Everybody's Live with John Mulaney.
Mulaney said 'there was a plan to do more' and that they were 'figuring it out.' And though 'it's been very enjoyable,' he also noted that he has 'really felt the 12 weeks in a row' of doing the show.
'We would scale back what we were doing if we were doing it everyday,' Mulaney explained.
When describing the talk show, Mulaney said it was an 'evergreen, weird, not quite any era talk show that also is trying to be a variety show in some ways.
'It was more than just that we got to try a lot of bits and jokes and have guests on,' he said. 'We just got to try whole episodes where it felt very shoestring and episodes where we were blowing it out production-wise.'
When attending the Next on Netflix event in January, Mulaney had first teased the talk show as a 'really fun experiment.' Guests have included Pete Davidson, Henry Winkler, Bill Hader, David Letterman and Natasha Lyonne.
'It's one of those shows that neither Netflix nor I really needed to do,' Mulaney said at the time. 'I never wanted to host a talk show and they were getting out of the talk show game. It was the perfect moment to do this.'

'Leanne': Leanne Morgan thought she'd fail every Monday, by Friday, she was the pro
Leanne Morgan's new Netflix show, Leanne, brings back the multi-camera TV sitcom format, adding her unique Southern twist. Also featuring Kristen Johnston, Ryan Stiles, Blake Clark and Celia Weston, it's one of the most endearing shows to watch right now. Morgan and Johnston spoke to Yahoo Canada about the bond they quickly established while making the show, leading to a lot of "bed stuff" with the actors, who play sisters, on screen. I think so much at the heart of this series is the relationship that you two have and to see Kristen, how your character is kind of supporting Leanne's character, but is also like doing her own, which I think is really great. Tell me a little bit about just what your collaboration was like. It seems pretty seamless. We got along right away. Instant love, love at first sight. And then I think, you know, another thing that's so great about this writing team is they picked up on all that and I think they bring that into the relationships. Like, I don't think there were like 30 scenes set in Leanne's bed between us until we started, they started realizing how great those scenes worked. So there's a lot of bedstone. Uh-huh, we take to the bed, we take to the bed together, um, but yeah, I think that was it. I think a great writer watches the dynamic and builds on it and takes what works and I think our relationship definitely bled into the show a lot. You're stepping into like a pretty iconic TV genre that I think a lot of people We are gonna watch this and they're gonna feel like a little bit of warm and fuzzy to bring back that like sitcom that I think a lot of us remember, but executed, I think, in a great way that really does justice to our favorites that we loved. But what was it like for you to be able to kind of step into this and to be able to do the kind of multi-cam sitcom and kind of bring that back, I think. Oh, you angel. Well, I was. It had always been my dream and then, um, and I'd had deals before, but they didn't make it. And, and then when Chuck Lorre came to me, I mean, it went so fast moving so fast and casting and everything just fell into place. It was meant to be. Every Monday at the start of the week, she would come in and be like, I can't, it's too, there's so much to remember. I can't do it. I'm, this is gonna be a failure. I'm, uh, uh, and then by Friday, the audience would get there and she'd be like, Rao, you know, like. She was just the pro. Like, and finally after a couple of weeks, every Monday, I'm like, shut up. You've already said it, you're gonna be perfect because you are. But anyway it was a big challenge. It was it was a big challenge, but I tell everybody, she had two jobs. She had her own job and then she had to coach me. She helped me so much because I didn't know the terminology. I didn't know anything, and she would say, this is what's happening. And I, and then, it helped me so much. But yeah, it was a big challenge, but a joy. And then I began, I got settled into it, and I want to keep doing it. It did; it felt like home by the end of it.

‘FUBAR' Fans Are Saying the Same Thing About Show's Cancellation
Netflix has officially canceled FUBAR after 2 seasons — and fans of the series starring Arnold Schwarzenegger and Monica Barbaro are saying the same thing about the news. On August 1, Deadline reported that FUBAR would not return for Season 3. The decision came after its Season 2 premiere on July 12 yielded lackluster viewership on the streaming platform. Only 2.2 million views came in from Thursday to Sunday, down from 11 million views for the Season 1 premiere weekend. FUBAR peaked at #7 on Netflix with 3.3 million views during its first full week. For its third week, the show dropped to #10 with 1.8 million views before it exited the Top 10 altogether. For the action-comedy series, CIA agent Luke Brunner (Schwarzenegger) discovered his daughter, Emma (Barbaro), was also part of the CIA. The father-daughter duo was forced to work together to stop an arms dealer, blurring the lines between their professional and personal lives. Additionally, FUBAR starred Carrie-Anne Moss, Fortune Feimster, Milan Carter, Travis Van Winkle, Fabiana Udenio, Jay Baruchel and more. On Reddit, fans of FUBAR weren't surprised by Netflix axing the show. Although many enjoyed the first season, which premiered in May 2023, the more than two years between Season 1 and Season 2, combined with the slower, uninspired plot of the follow-up seasons left many disinterested. I'm OK with this.' Another echoed, 'I watched 2 episodes of the second season and got so bored I couldn't finish it. Season One had some decent humor, but Season 2 had all the characters ridiculously Flanderized. Good riddance.' Someone else pointed out, 'Audience fell off dramatically from season one. Writing was on the wall.' Meanwhile, yet another confessed, 'I saw it coming…not even Carrie-Anne Moss can save this dire mess.' Others were a bit more disappointed but thought Season 2 wrapped up the storyline nicely. One Reddit user shared, 'Lame. It was a nice show. Had me cracking up at times. The last episode of season two felt like a conclusion just in case they got cancelled. I will miss FUBAR.' A different fan wrote, 'Well, I enjoyed it despite not being an outstanding show at all.
