The Vegas Golden Knights are entering a crucial offseason following a tough postseason exit. Vegas was bounced in the second round of the playoffs by the Edmonton Oilers, despite holding home-ice advantage in the series.

Vegas will now go forward with the priority to build a more complete team so they can better go after another title. But first, the team has made a big announcement on star Jack Eichel.
Eichel was selected to be part of Team USA for the 2026 Winter Olympics. This is a special moment for the star player, and he will represent the United States proudly.
Eichel will be entering the final year of his current deal with the Golden Knights. The star can enter free agency if an extension isn't reached, but Vegas is looking to avoid having that happen.

Golden Knights general manager Kelly McCrimmon is hoping to come to terms with the star on a new deal.

'The guy is a tremendous player," McCrimmon said. "He's one of the top guys in the NHL. He's got great character and great leadership. You see night in and night out what he does for our team. So that will be a really important piece of business for us. I sure hope to keep Jack in our organization. Jack loves it here. I hope we can find common ground and keep him a Golden Knight."
Eichel is coming off a special season for the Golden Knights, putting up 28 goals and 66 assists. The star was one of the many reasons why Vegas was so dominant during the regular season, and the team is hopeful to keep him around long-term.
If they have it their way, Eichel will be representing the Golden Knights when he suits up for Team USA at the Olympics.

Celtics' first-round pick named NBA Summer League disappointment
After the NBA Summer League concluded, the Boston Celtics had a productive outing, finishing with a 4-1 record. The Celtics' third-year guard Jordan Walsh was the team's standout for the Summer League, as his performance this year made him Boston's all-time Summer League scorer. This summer wasn't as productive for the Celtics' lone first-round pick in 2025, Hugo Gonzalez. Gonzalez was Boston's No. 28 pick in the 2025 NBA Draft out of Real Madrid. At just 19 years old, Gonzalez began playing professional basketball overseas at just 16 years old. He was most productive for Real Madrid in Liga ACB, playing in 29 games and averaging 5.2 points, 2.5 rebounds, while shooting 56.5% from the field in 14.2 minutes per game. His first Summer League in the NBA, however, was less impressive, according toThe Athletic's John Hollinger. "The questions about his skill level didn't exactly vanish with his play in Vegas. Gonzalez repeatedly lost his handle, including one notable turnover when he took a single dribble from a standstill and simultaneously had the ball picked and committed a clear path foul. He finished summer league with as many turnovers (13) as baskets and, in addition to shaky perimeter shooting, only shot 6 of 20 inside the arc," Hollinger said in an article. As a taller guard, Gonzales came into the NBA pre-draft process as a player who thrives in pick-and-roll situations, but his shooting ability from behind the three-point line (27.1% for Real Madrid last season) and habits of making passes off of one foot were labeled as problems for the 6-foot-6, 205-pound guard.

Caitlin Clark's Physical Appearance Turns Heads Before WNBA All-Star Game
Caitlin Clark's Physical Appearance Turns Heads Before WNBA All-Star Game originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Caitlin Clark has been playing through her second season in the WNBA, attempting to help turn the Indiana Fever into a title contender. The WNBA recently hit its halfway point of the season, meaning all eyes turned toward the All-Star break, with Indiana hosting All-Star weekend. The Fever (12-11) went into the break third in the Eastern Conference and sixth overall, firmly in playoff contention. Despite the success, Clark has missed ample time. She previously dealt with a leg injury and has most recently been struck with a groin injury, which she re-aggravated ahead of the All-Star break. Clark has missed 11 of the Fever's 24 games, which includes the Commissioner's Cup final. While Clark won't be playing in Saturday's All-Star game, a photo of the Fever star recently hit social media. Fans commented on Clark's physical strength, having seen the WNBA guard in street clothes. After the photo surfaced online, some fans took to social media, sharing their thoughts on Clark's appearance at WNBA All-Star weekend. "I can't get up," said one fan. "Using this pic as motivation to never ever stop working out," said another fan. "She never skips her arms workout," mentioned one fan. "WOAH ARMS," commented one fan. "So strong," said one fan. "We photographer," said another fan. In 13 games this season, Clark is averaging 16.5 points, 5.0 rebounds and 8.8 assists. The former Iowa Hawkeyes star and her fans will be hoping for a healthier second half of the season as Indiana makes a playoff push. The WNBA All-Star game will take place on Saturday at 8:30 p.m. ET. This story was originally reported by Athlon Sports on Jul 19, 2025, where it first appeared.
