Shock moment daredevil's ‘death dive' cliff jump world record attempt ends in horror as 21-year-old rushed to hospital

The Sun15-07-2025
THIS is the shocking moment a daredevil's attempt to break a cliff diving world record turned into a terrifying brush with death.
Dramatic footage shows Vali Graham at the top of Minnehaha Falls in Minnesota, psyching himself up for the big jump.

The 21-year-old was seen flexing and yelling before hurling himself off the edge of the 139-feet cliff — the height of a 13-storey building.
Just seconds later, Graham hits the waterhole in a tight "pike" formation, but instead of surfacing victorious, he is knocked out cold on impact.
Left unconscious with a shattered body, Graham sustained a burst eardrum, fractured vertebrae, a broken sternum and a fractured skull in the brutal fall.
The Newcastle local, who is a fan of døds — or 'death diving' — had been attempting to beat the current freestyle cliff dive record of 136 feet held by Swiss diver Lucien Charlon.
Miraculously, Graham later revealed on social media that after regaining consciousness, he managed to pull himself from the water.
He hiked almost a mile to reach his car, where friends rushed him to the hospital.
He posted: 'Update: 'God gives us the gift of suffering' after sending this monster 42.5m [139ft] cliff I was knocked unconscious.
'After regaining consciousness I pulled myself out of the water and walked a steep 1.2km [0.74miles] out to our car where my friends took me to hospital.
The thrill-seeker had surgery on his back and sternum, but said he was walking again just two days after the operation.
Horrifying moment daredevil who yanked crocodile's tail is MAULED by beast as it mangles his arm with 5in razor teeth
'Back at home now, on my feet and grateful for life, good friends, family and God," he continued.
'A set back is an opportunity to show how bad your (sic) really want it and I am honestly mentally feeling amazing, ready to rebuild my body better than ever and come back stronger, a long way to go but excited for the journey.'
While some fans applauded his spirit, others slammed the post for not thanking the medical staff who saved him.
One user commented: 'Why, in that big caption did you not thank the doctors a single time?
'Lots of thanking god but not the humans that actually operated on you.'
Another asked: 'What about the healthcare staff who actually treated your self-inflicted injuries … it definitely wasn't 'god'!'
A third said: ''Grateful for God' dude you jumped from the height of a 13 storey building and now my taxes have to pay for your dumb choices.'
The stunt has also reignited concerns about the extreme nature of døds diving, with some questioning how close the sport is to fatal limit.
'We are approaching the first 50m 'døds'/'death dive', slowly but surely,' one fan noted.
'Someone is probably losing their life in the pursuit of the world record.'
It comes as a spate of wild and reckless daredevil stunts have sparked global headlines for all the wrong reasons.
In Namibia, a crocodile attacked a man who yanked its tail, mauling his arm with its 5-inch teeth.
Security guard Simson Paulus, 41, ignored repeated warnings to leave the injured 10ft Nile crocodile alone — and was almost dragged into the water in front of horrified onlookers.
Meanwhile in the UK, a man dressed as a wizard performed a wild somersault down a hill in the annual Cooper's Hill Cheese Rolling competition in Gloucestershire.
The wannabe record breaker, known only as 'Tye', launched himself downhill in pursuit of the 7lb Double Gloucester cheese — only to crash hard, landing flat on his back in front of a stunned crowd.

New York Giants guard with iconic SNF intro adored by fans retires from football at 35

Former New York Giants first round pick Justin Pugh has announced his retirement from the NFL. The offensive guard and Pennsylvania native, who turns 35 in mid-August, announced his intentions to retire from the sport as a member of the team that picked him. Pugh, who gained popularity for his humorous 'Sunday Night Football' intro in October 2023, admitted he wanted to come back for one more season. 'I've played here six of my 11 years in the NFL,' Pugh said. 'Not many players get to go out on their terms, and after 11 years playing in the NFL, I am officially retiring from the league. 'I thought I was going to do another one, but just didn't have it in the tank. I started losing weight and started feeling good, and didn't want to do a 12th year. 'But like every little boy, I always dreamed of playing in the NFL ... I definitely never planned on making a block so Eli (Manning) could throw the ball down the field. Justin Pugh keeping it real in his first game back 😂 @JustinPugh 📺: #NYGvsBUF on NBC 📱: Stream on #NFLPlus — NFL (@NFL) October 16, 2023 'I never dreamed of being an offensive lineman. I don't think any little boys are out there right now being like, 'Let me pass set and block in the playoffs to make something happen.' 'What I realized, offensive line was the position that was for me. I was built perfectly for it, and it's something that you don't choose. 'Everyone wants to be that star position, but it's something that really defined me as a man, as a father and as a teammate.' Pugh last took the field in the 2023 season - taking part in 12 games after overcoming a significant knee injury. In that 'Sunday Night Football' matchup in Orchard Park, New York against the Buffalo Bills, Pugh greeted the audience by saying he came from 'straight off the couch'. Pugh was picked by the Giants 19th overall in the 2013 NFL Draft after a four-year tenure at Syracuse University. He played five years with the Giants before spending his next five seasons with the Arizona Cardinals. His last season with the Cardinals ended after five games due to a torn ACL. Pugh then returned to the Giants for one more season in 2023 and did not take the field in 2024.

A-list Brit star, 31, spotted on secret date with stunning model just weeks after split from Doja Cat

Ellie Henman, Bizarre Editor Published: Invalid Date, AFTER splitting from American singer Doja Cat earlier this year, Joseph Quinn – aka the Human Torch – has been busy swiping on dating app Raya. And it seems the hunt for a new flame has landed him a glamorous admirer. 9 9 9 Joe, whose new film, The Fantastic Four: First Steps, is out now, was photographed on a night out with model Amelia Zerbe at Chateau Marmont in LA. An onlooker told me: 'Joseph and Amelia were really low key and, when they left, they made sure they went separately. 'He went ahead and got into the car before Amelia joined him. 'It seemed like they were on a date, but were keen not for anyone to notice them.' Given how public his romance with Doja was, I'm not surprised Joe is keen to keep things on the low. His life will soon turn completely upside down when he starts filming Sam Mendes' Beatles films. The director will create four films based on the lives of George Harrison Sir Paul Mccartney, Ringo Starr and John Lennon. While Joe is playing George, Paul Mescal will be McCartney, Harris Dickinson is set to portray John and Barry Keoghan has signed up as Ringo. Barry has already spent six months in a Beatles bootcamp learning how to drum like Ringo. And Joe admitted he's also been hard at it for the past month or so. He said: 'We've had five weeks of rehearsal. It's a fascinating process. 'Being around those guys, Paul, Barry and Harris, I think that they are very deeply talented men, thoughtful men, good, hard workers. 'I'm very inspired by them and we're all kind of going through this process together. 'There's more work to be done but I'll get back to it soon.' Joe will return to rehearsals for the Beatles film later this summer, with the four lads expected to start filming at the end of the year. Given how hectic his schedule is, he deserves a medal if he manages to keep a steady girlfriend at the same time. Maybe the Human Torch has a burning desire to make it work . . . 9 Bizbit THE brains behind Busted, The Vamps and Mcfly are looking for rising stars to join their roster. A source said: 'The Oasis reunion is a historic moment in music and these concerts will be talked about for decades to come. 'The band are sounding amazing and they've decided it simply has to be captured as a moment in time. "There will be more singles released before the album drops.' Oasis's only previous live album was Familiar To Millions, which was released in November 2000 after it was recorded at a huge concert at Wembley Stadium in July that year. As a solo artist, Liam has released three live albums – MTV Unplugged (Live At Hull City Hall), Down By The River Thames – which captured his performance on a barge on the river in December 2020 – and Knebworth 22, recording his triumphant return to the site of Oasis's legendary 1996 open- air shows at the Hertfordshire country house.
