HYROX attracts over 3,500 athletes from 124 nationalities in Abu Dhabi

ABU DHABI (WAM) The Abu Dhabi Sports Council, in collaboration with HYROX and ADNEC Abu Dhabi, hosted HYROX, the world's largest indoor fitness race and the leading fitness event in the Middle East.The event, held on Sunday, brought together 3,506 athletes from across the globe, including 213 professional competitors.Women represented 41 percent of the participants, with the 30-35 age group being the most represented.Athletes from 124 nationalities took part, including 340 Emiratis. The United Kingdom led the participant demographics with 24 percent, followed by the UAE with 9 percent, and both Ireland and the Philippines with 5.25 percent each.The race consisted of eight 1km running rounds, interspersed with eight functional fitness workouts, forming a complete challenge that tested both strength and endurance.Entry was open across several categories: Individual (Men and Women), Doubles (Men, Women, Mixed), Doubles Pro, Individual Pro, Relay Teams (4 persons), and a dedicated category for People of Determination.The event kicked off with the men's category at 7:00 am, followed by the remaining categories throughout the day, concluding with the men's relay at 9:00 pm.Award ceremonies began at 12:45 pm after the first race and continued until 10:45 pm after the final event. The race witnessed an impressive public turnout of over 12,000 spectators throughout the day.Executive Director of the Events Sector at Abu Dhabi Sports Council, Talal Al Hashemi, stated, "Hosting HYROX in Abu Dhabi underscores our ongoing commitment to promoting sports and a healthy lifestyle by attracting world-class events that blend challenge and excitement while being inclusive of all community segments. This aligns with the national initiative 'Year of the Community,' which reflects our leadership's vision of building a cohesive and thriving society."In turn, Humaid Matar Al Dhaheri, Managing Director and Group Chief Executive Officer of ADNEC Group, said, 'Our collaboration with the Abu Dhabi Sports Council and HYROX reaffirms our commitment to attracting leading global events that promote the principles of a balanced and healthy lifestyle for all members of the community."HYROX is one of the fastest-growing fitness racing events globally and has become a key fixture in Abu Dhabi's sports calendar.

3 Aug 2025 22:24 AL AIN (WAM) The curtain came down Sunday on the inaugural edition of the Abu Dhabi World Grappling Championship 2025, held over three days at ADNEC Centre Al clubs delivered a powerful statement, sweeping the top three positions in the by International Vision Sports Management (IVSM), the championship featured thrilling matches and high-level competition, drawing a large crowd and more than 1,000 athletes from over 60 countries to the Al Ain final day saw the culmination of professional category matches, with standout performances energising the crowd. The UAE's Commando Group topped the overall standings across divisions, followed by ADMA International in second place and M.O.D UAE in were awarded medals and cash prizes at the end of the initiative was held in partnership with the Department of Culture and Tourism Abu Dhabi and under the umbrella of Abu Dhabi Jiu-Jitsu Pro (AJP).In attendance on the final day and participating in the awards ceremony were Sheikh Tarik bin Faisal Al Qassimi, Saeed Al Dhaheri, Destination Management Department Director at the Department of Culture and Tourism Abu Dhabi, and Tareq Al Bahri, General Manager of International Vision Sports Bahri said, 'This year, we succeeded in delivering an exceptional edition of the Abu Dhabi World Grappling Championship by attracting top-tier international athletes to the Al Ain Region and organising professional-level matches that reflect Abu Dhabi's status as the world capital of jiu-jitsu. We thank all our supporting partners and the fans whose presence played a vital role in making this event a success.''We promise to continue delivering high-calibre grappling championships that elevate the sport and help uncover new talent at both the local and global levels.''Through this championship, we aim to cement Abu Dhabi and the Al Ain Region as global destinations for world-class sporting events, while expanding interest in grappling across all age groups. In future editions, we look forward to growing the event further, both in terms of participation and organisational excellence, so it continues to meet the expectations of athletes and spectators alike.'Pouya Rahmani of Team Nogueira Dubai, who won gold in the Men's Grappling / 18+ / Professionals / 125kg division, said, 'I feel amazing. This is my first world title in grappling as a black belt, and it means a lot to me. It's been a long journey, and finally winning this medal is incredibly satisfying. My final match was against Haitham Redha. I lost to him the last time, and he's a strong fighter, but I managed to take the victory this time. Thank you, Abu Dhabi. Thank you, Al Ain.'Caroline Vinhaes of Piramide Grappling Association, who claimed gold in the Women's 18+ / Professionals / 55kg division, said, 'I really enjoyed the championship. It is amazing to have a tournament dedicated specifically to grappling. Everything about the experience has been outstanding, from the organisation to the number of participants and the way we were treated throughout. I'm definitely looking forward to coming back and competing again.'Over the course of three days, the championship featured competitions across the professional, masters, amateur, and youth categories. The impressive attendance and international participation reaffirm the event's growing status as a premier grappling competition in the region and on the global sports calendar.

2 Aug 2025 15:20 ABU DHABI (WAM)The eighth 8th stop of the 32nd edition of the UAE President's Cup Series for Purebred Arabian Horses will take place Sunday, August 3, at Duindigt Turf Racecourse in The Hague, Kingdom of the UAE President's Cup continues to receive unwavering support from the UAE leadership, reinforcing its global mission to preserve the legacy of Purebred Arabian horses and to advance the sport across the world's most prestigious Dutch stage of the series marks a historic milestone — it is the richest Arabian horse race ever held in the Netherlands, boasting a prize purse of $100, 2,150-metre Group 3 race welcomes 11 elite contenders representing leading stables from across Europe. Open to horses aged four years and above, the race is expected to deliver high-calibre competition. Matar Suhail Al Yabhouni Al Dhaheri, Chairman of the Higher Organising Committee of the UAE President's Cup Series, commented: 'We are proud to see the UAE President's Cup continue to fulfil its vision of elevating Arabian horse racing to new international heights.
