From ‘The Last of Us' to ‘The Fantastic Four': First Steps': Pedro Pascal is dominating the spotlight
Pedro Pascal steps into rom-com territory with Materialists , the highly anticipated film from Oscar-nominated director Celine Song and produced by acclaimed studio A24. He plays a wealthy suitor caught in a love triangle with Dakota Johnson and Chris Evans, who portrays her broke-but-charming ex. Only one trailer has dropped so far, but fans are already rooting for Team Pascal. The film premieres in cinemas on June 13.

Pascal leads the latest reboot of The Fantastic Four, opening July 25, as Reed Richards, aka Mr Fantastic. He joins a star-studded cast featuring Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm, Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm, aka The Thing.
Now part of the larger Marvel Universe, the actor even made a surprise appearance at the Thunderbolts premiere, where co-star Florence Pugh was caught fangirling over his now-viral 'Protect the Dolls' shirt.

Marvel isn't the only universe Pascal has infiltrated. At the recently held Star Wars Celebration in Tokyo this April, Pascal was on hand to promote the upcoming movie Star Wars: The Mandalorian & Grogu , set to hit cinemas on May 22, 2026. He took the stage with director Jon Favreau, new castmate Sigourney Weaver, and co-star—and partner in crime—Grogu to talk about the film and treat fans to exclusive footage from the highly anticipated movie. And just in case there still wasn't enough Pedro Pascal content going around, he also starred in the Spike Jonze-directed ad for Apple's AirPods 4 with Active Noise Cancellation. In the short film, Pascal showcased his acting skills and some fancy footwork, dancing to "Perfect" by Sam i, Tropkillaz, Bia, and MC Pikachu. Chalk it up to the Pedro Pascal effect—the film racked up 2.5 million YouTube views within just 24 hours of its debut.

In the Materialists universe, Dating is less about connection than optimisation. It is self-improvement turned into a corporate strategy. Song doesn't condemn it outright; instead, she lays it bare, letting the implications speak for themselves. It makes the audience realise that maybe, the marriage plot of Jane Austen or Thomas Hardy—a handful of prized cows and a generous dowry—never totally left in the advent of sexual freedom. Instead, replaced with something sterile yet, in a way, indirect. The film's tension builds toward a disturbing turn, one that underscores Song's assertion that the objectification baked into modern dating doesn't come without consequences. Beneath the polished surface, Materialists reveals something rough and familiar: the pressure to become the most valuable version of oneself. 'You're not an asset—you're a person,' the film suggests. But in a world where value is quantified in income, height or charm, that idea is harder to internalise than it should be. Despite moments of wit and warmth, this is no feel-good romance. It's a film about performance and the personas we put on to survive dating in an age of metrics. Still, it avoids total cynicism. Johnson brings a steely charisma to Lucy, allowing vulnerability to surface, especially in her scenes with John. In those moments, all the spreadsheets and scorecards fall away. What's left is messy, unresolved and human.
