Share your UAE story! Filipinos invited to join writing competition celebrating community, coexistence

Are you living or working in the UAE and want to share your story about your life, experiences, or connection to this country? The UAE is inviting everyone, including citizens and expatriates of all ages, to share their stories through the national initiative 'What the UAE Means to Me'—a writing competition launched by the Ministry of Tolerance & Coexistence, in line with the declaration of 2025 as the 'Year of the Community.' Participants can submit creative writings such as short stories, articles, Nabati and classical poetry, or letters and reflections that express their unique experiences and what the UAE means to them. Entries can be written in either Arabic or English. This is particularly meaningful for the Filipino community in the UAE, one of the largest and most active expatriate groups contributing to the country's growth and development. During the Philippine Independence Day celebration in Dubai last June, Minister of Tolerance and Coexistence, His Excellency Sheikh Nahayan bin Mabarak Al Nahyan, specifically encouraged Filipinos to take part in the competition. 'We expect that many of the most moving and powerful entries will come from the Filipino community,' the minister said. 'Those of you who arrived with a dream and built a future—from mothers and fathers raising families, from nurses and teachers, from innovators and caregivers, and from artists and engineers. Your stories matter and the rest of us would love to hear from you,' His Excellency said. The Philippine Embassy in the UAE has since echoed this call, actively encouraging Filipino residents across the Emirates to participate in the competition and share their unique perspectives and journeys in the UAE. Entries will be accepted until the end of November 2025 through the Ministry of Tolerance & Coexistence's official channels. Prizes range from AED 250 for children ages 6 to 12, AED 500 for youths ages 13 to 18, and AED 1,000 for other age groups, while winning submissions will be published in both Arabic and English. Special celebrations will honor outstanding works, with winners announced during the Human Fraternity Festival in February 2026.

Intensive efforts to launch and sustain projects Hamad Ali Abdullah Al Mahmoud, who leads the Sharjah Economic Development Department and heads the Project Financing Committee at the Sharjah Foundation for Supporting Entrepreneurs (RUWAD), has emphasized the committee's ongoing commitment to helping small and medium-sized businesses in Sharjah. He highlighted that they are working hard to provide financial support that is flexible and tailored to meet the needs of these businesses, which is crucial for their growth and success. Al Mahmoud explained that the committee carefully reviews the projects submitted to them, ensuring that they provide the right assistance to promising new ideas. This support is intended to help these initiatives thrive, add value to the local economy, and align with Sharjah's vision of becoming a hub for knowledge and innovation. Diverse agenda The meeting took place at the SEDD headquarters in Sharjah, where the attendees discussed several important topics. They reviewed the budget for 2025 and went over the financial records of RUWAD. Dubai Rents Rise Up to 53% as Market Shows Signs of Stabilisation in H1 2025

Dubai's property rental market is showing early signs of stabilisation, according to H1 2025 data released by Bayut and dubizzle. While long-term rents have seen a more measured pace of change, short-term rentals continue to enjoy steady demand across key residential areas. Affordable apartment rents increased by 7% on average, though areas like Bur Dubai and Deira saw declines of over 6%. Mid-tier apartments recorded modest gains of 1% to 6%, while luxury apartment rents mostly dipped by up to 5%, except for a few pockets like Dubai Marina and Downtown Dubai where rents rose up to 3%. Villa rentals showed sharper movements. Affordable and mid-tier villas rose by up to 9% and 7%, respectively. The luxury segment saw significant hikes of up to 53%, particularly in Dubai Hills Estate, driven by limited supply and high demand. However, 4-bed luxury villas posted declines of up to 9% in some areas. Short-term rentals also maintained solid traction. Daily luxury apartment rents in Downtown Dubai and JBR averaged between AED 516 and AED 762. Palm Jumeirah topped the villa segment with daily rates averaging AED 6.96k — a 14.59% year-on-year increase. According to Haider Ali Khan, CEO of Bayut and dubizzle, the influx of over 72,000 new units expected in 2025 is gradually easing rental pressure. He also noted a growing interest in homeownership, encouraged by stabilising prices, the Dubai Land Department's First-Time Home Buyer initiative, and agent support tools like TruBroker™.
