British dad jailed for 40 years in 'hellhole prison' after being 'caught with cocaine'
A British father has been sentenced to 40 years in a notorious Dubai prison after he was allegedly caught with cocaine.
Sam Dorman's relatives are reportedly "understandably distraught" after the tattoo artist received his sentence. The 33 year old was arrested earlier this month following a police operation, it is believed.
Authorities are said to have found half a gram of cocaine on Dorman.
Reports also suggest an additional 28g of the Class A drug was found at his residence. In the UK, the drugs would be valued at approximately £2,000, but their worth could triple in the United Arab Emirates due to higher street prices.
Dubai is infamous for its strict anti-drug laws, reports the Mirror.
Dorman, originally from Glossop, Derbyshire, is thought to have moved to Dubai in 2022 to set up a business venture. His family in Britain are now said to be deeply concerned for the well-being of the tattooist and barber following his conviction.
It is reported Dorman will be incarcerated at Al-Awir Central Prison, known for its harsh conditions and severe treatment of inmates. This is the same prison where British teenager Marcus Fakana was held last year after being charged with having sex with a British girl while on holiday.
A source close to Dorman and his family told The Sun : "He's got a young daughter in the UK, so to be serving 40 years is really sad. He won't be out till he's in his 70s.

"The prison's a hellhole and Sam's family are understandably distraught. When they spoke to him, it looked like he'd taken a battering. I just hope someone can help him."
The insider revealed that Dorman, a father of one, "got in with the wrong crowd" after relocating to the United Arab Emirates. They suspect that a customer, who had purchased drugs from Dorman, was caught by the police.
The source alleges that the police then seized this individual's phone and messaged Dorman, pretending to be the buyer and requesting more.
This reportedly led to Dorman's arrest and subsequent imprisonment on Monday, according to today's reports. The Mirror has reached out to the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) for comment and additional information.
However, the FCDO has informed The Sun: "We are supporting a British man detained in Dubai."
This incident follows another case involving a Brit, Bella May Culley, who could face up to 20 years in a dreadful Georgian jail. The teenager, hailing from Billingham in County Durham, was arrested in Georgia earlier this week on suspicion of attempting to smuggle drugs into the country.

Emmerdale icon's soap future confirmed as major news announced
Emmerdale star Claire King first appeared as the villainous Kim Tate in 1989 and made a full-time comeback nearly 30 years later but has now signed a new contract to stay around even longer on the ITV soap. Claire King has signed a new contract that will keep her on Emmerdale. The actress, 63, made her name starring as the villainous Kim Tate on the ITV soap for a decade between 1989 and 1999 but made a full-time comeback to the programme in 2018, and now it has been confirmed that she will be sticking around in the fictional Yorkshire village for the foreseeable future after impressing bosses. A source told The Sun: "Bosses love Claire and they are delighted that she's going nowhere. Kim Tate is one of the soap all time greats and it's only right that she has a massive storyline." The insider teased that Kim will "stop at nothing to get what she wants" and upcoming scenes will "delve into who Kim is and where she's come from and see her rediscover that grit that" made her the character that viewers know today. In recent weeks, fans have seen evil Dr Crowley attempt to con the Home Farm millionaire out of her money, but Kim worked out his evil schemes. Not only that but she did what Kim Tate does best, and took her revenge. Joe Tate finally confessed to her what had been going on, just as it looked as though he was about to drug her. In fact as viewers watched the scenes unfold, we saw Kim pretend to have been drugged as part of Crowley's plan to steal all her money. Crowley was targeting Joe and blackmailing him over his own dodgy dealings, months on from the fiasco that saw the pair steal Caleb Miligan's kidney. Noah Dingle had also been drugged to see if he was a kidney donor match for Joe, who needed a transplant. Crowley demanded Joe steal money from Kim and get it to him if he wanted him out of the way. So when Kim declined on the made up investment idea, Crowley came up with a sinister plan that would involve Joe drugging his 'grandmother', before Crowley would enter and steal the cash from her account. As this unfolded, Kim was seen laying on the bed unable to move after seemingly being injected with what Crowley had given Joe. As Crowley threatened to harm Kim with his surgical scalpels, demanding the password to her account so he could steal the money, Kim appeared to deteriorate. Crowley leaned in to get a better hearing of the code Kim was saying to him very quietly. But in that moment it became clear that Kim and Joe were faking the entire scenario, and she had not been drugged at all She leapt up and jabbed Crowley with the needle, injecting him with the medication before Joe smirked. He'd told Kim everything and they teamed up to take down Crowley. Even the surgeon's accomplice Shaun was in on it, paid by Kim and Joe to switch sides and help them defeat the doctor. Kim explained how she knew she was being played thanks to Joe, and she did not take being scammed, almost, very lightly. During her early days in the serial, Kim's infamous marriage to Frank Tate (Norman Bowler), and at one point, she faked her own death in an attempt to frame him before leaving him to die of a heart attack. After marrying again and concocting a string of moneymaking scams, she left the village in a helicopter with nearly £200,000 of her stepson Chris' money. In her time away from the soap, Claire appeared on Celebrity Big Brother and as a panellist on Loose Women before joining Coronation Street in 2014, starring as the best friend of Liz McDonald ( Beverley Callard) for a period of three years. The soap veteran recently admitted that she doesn't know if she will still be on-screen in decades to come, but felt "fortunate" to have had the chance to return to her signature role. She said: "I'm not sure I'll still be here in 20 years. It's a nice thought, but I think they would have to wheel me on set.. I've been fortunate to come back to Emmerdale. My return to the show was meant to be a nice little retirement job for me. But because Kim is at the centre of everything, it hasn't really worked out that way."

'I tended my dad's broken body after he fell victim to UK's most corrupt cop'
Errol Campbell Jr today told how his father, Errol Campbell Sr, was left covered bruises after he was "beaten by cops" when crooked Det Sgt Derek Ridgewell framed him for a crime he never committed The son of a man jailed and abused by Britain's most corrupt cop has told how he was haunted by the memory of tending to his father's broken body. In a searingly brutal account, Errol Campbell, 64, revealed his father, Errol Sr, was forced to flee the UK for America after he was stitched-up by crooked British Transport Police Det Sgt Derek Ridgewell. The Court of Appeal posthumously cleared Mr Campbell Sr last week after hearing he was the 13th victim of racist Ridgewell's dishonesty during the 1970s. And today the Mirror can reveal Errol Jr's memories of his father's trauma as he told how the stigma of the conviction forced him from the UK. Errol Jr said his father turned to alcohol, saying: "He was a ruined man." Dad-of-four Mr Campbell Sr came to the UK from Barbados as part of the Windrush generation and began working for British Rail. He married his wife, seamstress Lucy Henrietta Daley after she arrived from Jamaica. Mr Campbell Sr worked as a supervisor and would cycle to the Bricklayers Arms Depot - the same location from which bent Ridgewell stole property worth £364,000. In court documents, Errol Jr said he was just 14 years old when cops stormed his home and took his father away for questioning. When he returned Errol Jr said - as the oldest son - he was tasked with applying oil to bruises all over his father's body. Errol Jr, who said his father "enjoyed" his job and the family travelled the UK using a discounted card, said: "When I was around 14 years old I remember the police coming to the house more than once to speak to my father. The first time they came to the house they took him away. When he came back he had bruises on him where he said the police had beaten him. "Some on his face, his stomach and his back. As his eldest son, my mother gave me oil to put on his bruises and I helped bathe his back. I have never forgotten that. The police came again and took him away." Ridgewell is said to have stitched-up at least 13 innocent men in a racist campaign of corruption during the 1970s. The officer, who died in jail aged 37, made millions with gangs after framing mostly Black victims in London, including the Stockwell Six and Oval Four. In 1977 Mr Campbell Sr was sentenced to 18 months' imprisonment and a further six months after being convicted of conspiracy to steal from the depot where he worked. He always denied his guilt and claimed he was the victim of racist officers but he went to his grave in 2004 after battling larynx cancer, aged 81, without clearing his name. Lucy died three years later in 2007. Last week the Court of Appeal posthumously cleared Mr Campbell Sr after his family fought to overturn his conviction. Errol Jr, 64, said: "He always said he was completely innocent of the offences. I remember him saying this before his trial and throughout the rest his life." Overturning his conviction, Lord Justice Holroyde said that it was with "regret" that the court could not undo Mr Campbell's suffering. He added: 'We can however, and do, allow the appeal brought on his behalf, and quash his conviction. We hope that will at least bring some comfort to Mr Campbell's family who survive.' He added: "After he came out of prison my father went to America, to get away from his experience. I did not see him for years. I think he left England for up to six years. He took up heavy drinking, and had a drinking problem for the rest of his life. He was a ruined man. The relationship with my mother was not a good relationship from after the time he went into prison. He died in October 2004, of cancer of larynx. My mother died in 2007." Last week Ronald De Souza, who was part of the group dubbed the Stockwell Six, was also cleared. He just 17 when he was arrested by Det Sgt Ridgewell in 1972. Along with his pals he was accused of trying to rob Ridgewell on a South London Tube train and were jailed despite saying police lied, were violent and made threats. Ridgewell also arrested the Oval Four in 1972 for stealing handbags. They were each jailed for eight months but their convictions were overturned in 2019 and 2020. Basil Peterkin and Saliah Mehmet were jailed in 1977 – framed by Ridgewell over a theft from a depot he later admitted stealing £364,000 from. Both died before their convictions were overturned last year [2024]. The BTP were criticised for failing to sack Ridgewell in 1973 when a series of prosecutions were dismissed over allegations of violence and corruption. He was moved to probing mailbag theft and teamed up with criminals to split the profits of stolen post. He also helped villains steal lorry loads of goods from the Bricklayers Arms Goods Depot in Bermondsey, South East London. Ridgewell was caught in 1978 and jailed for seven years for conspiracy to rob in 1980. When the governor of Ford prison in West Sussex asked Ridgewell why he had turned to crime, he is said to have replied: 'I just went bent.' Ridgewell died in his cell of a heart attack in 1982. Last week it emerged the BTP had launched a fresh probe into his crimes after the Mirror revealed a "flawed" inquiry into his crimes stretched to just nine pages. Following last week's hearings, Mr Foot, who represented Errol Campbell Jr at the Court of Appeal hearing which cleared his father's name, said: "When Ridgewell was convicted, nothing happened to his cases. We are calling for a change in the law that, when a police officer goes to prison, there is an automatic review of their cases to look for miscarriages of justice. "If that had happened, that would have saved more than 45 years of misery for the Campbell family." He added: "We are talking to the justice select committee [and] junior minister, and we believe it is something that could be put into Hillsborough Law [requiring public servants to tell the truth] as a very simple reform that could stop this sort of thing ever happening again."

Horror as Brit tourist found dead on Greek beach sun lounger after 'feeling ill'
A British tourist has tragically been found dead on his sun lounger on a popular Greek beach. The 74-year-old was found unconscious at around 12pm on Sunday by fellow beach-goers on Stalis Beach on the isle of Crete. Emergency services rushed to the scene and made a desperate bid to revive the man, but unfortunately their efforts proved unsuccessful. It is understood that he had first gone for a swim before returning to the sun lounger and there are reports he had a "strong feeling" of sickness shortly before his death. Paramedics from Hellenic National Center of Emergency Care (EKAB) treated the man at the scene and no cause of death has yet been given by the Greek authorities. An autopsy is now being carried out. It comes after last month after a 73-year-old British man was found dead on a beach in Agia Paraskevi, Skiathos, in Greece. A lifeguard was alerted, but the man could not be saved, despite a doctor attempting to bring him around for 40 minutes.
