Careem Pay, the digital payments platform within the Careem app, has announced the expansion of its remittance service to Jordan. This new feature allows UAE residents to send money directly to bank accounts in Jordan.
According to Careem, transfers are completed within 24 hours on average. The service supports direct bank transfers in Jordanian Dinars to any valid IBAN.
This move comes as part of Careem Pay's wider effort to serve some of the world's largest remittance corridors, including India, Pakistan, the UK, Europe, the Philippines, Lebanon, and Egypt.
Careem Pay reported that the UAE is home to a large Jordanian expat community. Annual remittances from the UAE to Jordan have exceeded USD 1 billion in recent years.
Mohammad El Saadi, VP of Careem Pay, revealed, 'Sending money home is one of the most meaningful things our customers do with Careem Pay. For many Jordanian expats, it's about supporting loved ones, covering school fees, or helping parents with everyday expenses. We wanted to make that process simpler, faster, and more affordable.'
The launch was timed ahead of Arafah Day and Eid Al Adha. Historically, international money transfers increase during these periods as customers support their families abroad.
To mark the launch, Careem Pay introduced limited-time offers: First-time remittance users get zero fees on their first two transfers to Jordan.
Repeat customers can send up to AED 25,000 per transaction, with a fixed AED 10 fee.
Careem Plus members enjoy added benefits. These include zero fees on transfers above AED 1,500 and lower fees on smaller amounts. They also receive exclusive perks across Careem services, such as discounted rides and free delivery on food and groceries.
To send money to Jordan or other supported countries, users can download the latest version of the Careem app and select 'Send Money' from the home screen.

DMW thanks Emirates NBD, UAE gov't for continued zero-fee remittances to the Philippines

The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) has expressed gratitude to the United Arab Emirates government and Emirates NBD after the bank confirmed that money transfers to the Philippines will continue to be free of charge under its DirectRemit service. Starting September 1, 2025, Emirates NBD will begin charging a nominal fee of up to AED 26.25 (inclusive of VAT) on most cross-border transfers to over 30 new countries, as part of its expanded DirectRemit offerings. However, transfers to the Philippines, as well as to India, Pakistan, Egypt, Sri Lanka, and the United Kingdom, will remain free for all Emirates NBD customers. Migrant Workers Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac thanked both Emirates NBD and the UAE government for ensuring that OFWs in the country can continue to send money home without additional costs. 'We likewise express our sincere gratitude to the UAE Government and the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation for fostering a supportive environment for migrant communities. Their cooperation ensures that OFWs can continue sending financial support to their loved ones without additional costs,' said Cacdac. Data from the Philippine Statistics Authority show that around 700,000 Filipinos lived in the United Arab Emirates as of 2023, with approximately 600,000 working as overseas Filipino workers. The Philippines remains one of the world's top recipients of remittances, which serve as a key source of income for millions of Filipino families.

Dubai launches initiative to assist first-time home buyers

Dubai has launched a programme for first-time home buyers, aiming to make homeownership more accessible and affordable by facilitating priority access to new launches, preferential pricing and tailored mortgage solutions. The First-Time Home Buyer Programme is applicable to properties less than AED 5 million and accessible to Emirati and expatriates of all nationalities and income levels, and to applicants aged 18 and above who are residents of the UAE. Khalid Al Shaibani, Director of Rental Affairs Department at Dubai Land Department, told Dubai Eye 103.8's The Agenda that the programme offers a flexible payment plan, either from the developer or special interest rates through banks. He added that the 4 per cent fee charged by the mainland department could be paid in interest-free installments over two years, with the aim to attract 5,000 new buyers this year. Leading developers have reportedly already committed to the programme, promising to support first-time home buyers through priority access to units in new off-plan launches, and enhanced commercial terms, including preferential pricing. Participating banks will provide "tailored mortgage products designed specifically for eligible buyers," as the programme reportedly continues to onboard new partners to increase the choice for buyers. Helal Saeed Almarri, Director General of the Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism (DET), said the initiative marks a "significant milestone" for the real estate sector. It "represents a powerful economic lever - stimulating long-term demand, driving liquidity into the real estate ecosystem and accelerating the sector's contribution to GDP in line with the Dubai Economic Agenda, D33. By lowering entry barriers to homeownership for Emiratis and expatriates alike, we are enhancing investor confidence, increasing market absorption rates, and reinforcing Dubai's global positioning as a city where personal aspirations and business ambitions converge," Almarri said. 'In a global climate where housing accessibility is a structural challenge, Dubai is offering a model of sustainable urban development - one that supports talent retention, fosters community cohesion, and enhances the city's competitiveness as a place to live, work, and invest."

The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) has expressed gratitude to the United Arab Emirates government after Filipino workers were exempted from a new fee imposed on international remittances by one of the country's largest banks. Starting September 1, 2025, Emirates National Bank of Dubai (NBD) will implement a fee of AED 26.25, inclusive of VAT, on most cross-border money transfers made through its DirectRemit service. The Philippines is among six countries excluded from this charge, along with India, Pakistan, Egypt, Sri Lanka, and the United Kingdom. Migrant Workers Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac thanked both Emirates NBD and the UAE government for ensuring that OFWs in the country can continue to send money home without additional costs.
