EAM Jaishankar to visit US to participate in QUAD Foreign Minister's Meeting: MEA
EAM will also inaugurate an exhibition at the UN Headquarters highlighting the toll of terrorist acts around the world and the steps taken by the international community to combat them.
According to MEA, EAM Jaishankar will undertake an official visit to the United States of America from June 30 to July 2 to participate in the next edition of the Quad Foreign Ministers' Meeting (QFMM), scheduled for July 1.
MEA underlined in its statement that the Quad Foreign Ministers will build upon the discussions held during the last QFMM, which took place in Washington DC earlier this year on January 21.
Notably, the Foreign Ministers will exchange views on regional and global developments, particularly those concerning the Indo-Pacific, and review the progress made on various Quad initiatives in the run-up to the Quad Leaders' Summit, which will be hosted by India.
The Ministers are also expected to deliberate on new proposals aimed at advancing the shared vision of a free and open Indo-Pacific.
"EAM will also be inaugurating an exhibition titled, "The Human Cost of Terrorism" at the United Nations Headquarters, New York on 30 June 2025. The Exhibition will highlight the devastating toll of heinous terrorist acts around the world, and the steps taken by the international community to combat terrorism.", the MEA said in its statement.
On Thursday (US local time), during the US State Department's briefing, the Principal Deputy Spokesperson for US Department of State Tommy Pigott announced that the Secretary of State, Marco Rubio will host the Foreign Ministers from the QUAD countries on July 1 in Washington DC for the QUAD Foreign Ministers Meeting.
Pigott said, "Next week, Secretary Rubio will host foreign Ministers from Australia, India and Japan for the 2025 Quad Foreign Ministers Meeting on July 1 in Washington, DC. The secretary's first diplomatic engagement was with the Quad, and next week's summit builds on that momentum to advance a free, open, and secure Indo-Pacific. This is what American leadership looks like: strength, peace and prosperity".
The QUAD is a diplomatic partnership between Australia, India, Japan, and the United States committed to supporting an open, stable and prosperous Indo-Pacific that is inclusive and resilient. The QUAD's origins date back to our collaboration in response to the December 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami.
Earlier in January, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, on his first day in office, hosted the Foreign Ministers of Australia, India, and Japan for a significant meeting of the QUAD alliance.
In a joint statement, the Foreign ministers of QUAD countries reaffirmed their shared commitment to strengthening a free and open Indo-Pacific where "sovereignty and territorial integrity are upheld and defended." The Quad nations also expressed strong opposition "to any unilateral actions aimed at changing the status quo through force or coercion."

Trump ends Syria sanctions, orders terror designation review
Washington DC: US President Donald Trump on Monday signed an executive order to dismantle the US sanctions programme on Syria, ending the Middle Eastern country's isolation from the international financial system. The sanctions programme, which has been in place since 2004, imposed far-reaching sanctions on Syria that affected most state institutions, including the central bank. "This is in an effort to promote and support the country's path to stability and peace," White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt told reporters. Sanctions against Assad remain in place Leavitt added that the move will enable the US to maintain sanctions on Syria's former president, Bashar Assad, and his associates, as well as on human rights abusers, drug traffickers, individuals involved in chemical weapons activities, the IS, ISIS affiliates, and Iranian proxies. Trump's order also instructs the US State Department to review the designation of the Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) as a foreign terrorist organisation. The Syrian transitional government has largely emerged from this group. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio is also to review Syria's designation as a state sponsor of terrorism, as well as that of Syrian transitional President Ahmed al-Sharaa as a terrorist. Syria welcomes Trump's move Syrian Foreign Minister Assaad al-Shibani said the US move marked a "major turning point," according to a post by the minister on social media platform X. "With the lifting of this major obstacle to economic recovery, the long-awaited doors are opening for reconstruction and development" as are the conditions "for the dignified return of displaced Syrians to their homeland," he wrote on X. India: 34 killed in Telangana chemical factory blast: CM Reddy visits site, seeks detailed report
Sangareddy: Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy on Tuesday visited Sigachi Pharma Industries in Sangareddy district, where at least 34 people were killed and several others sustained injuries in a deadly explosion a day ago. The Chief Minister held a review meeting and directed officials to submit a detailed investigation report into the cause of the blast. While interacting with factory authorities, Chief Minister Reddy asked, "Don't conclude with assumption or general opinion. I need specific reasons for this accident. Only then can we address what happened here today." The Chief Minister also enquired about the treatment status and hospital expenses of the injured victims. He said, "How many people are unskilled and skilled labour? Have you segregated the number of skilled and unskilled workers who died after the blast?" Revanth Reddy emphasised that such incidents should serve as a learning point for both the government and industry stakeholders. "We need to focus on what instructions we must give to avoid similar problems in other industries like this. There are two things we need from this: first, a detailed report, and second, accountability," he further said. He directed the officials not to rely on earlier inspections or reports and insisted on fresh evaluations by new experts. The Chief Minister also referred to possible compliance lapses by the industry and called for a review of past notices and penalties. So far, 34 people have lost their lives in the explosion and rescue operations continued at the site of the blast. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday expressed sorrow over the loss of lives in the explosion. An ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakhs for the next of kin of each deceased and Rs 50,000 for the injured has been announced from the Prime Minister's National Relief Fund.
