World's 50 Best Restaurants awards: chef Mindy Wood becomes first Australian to win Champions of Change
Woods was awarded for her efforts to 'preserve and share Indigenous culture through food,' said William Drew, director of content for the World's 50 Best Restaurants.
Italy's Caroline Caporossi and Jessica Rosval, who run an initiative training migrant chefs in Modena, and Brazilian chef João Diamante, who serves undervalued cuts of meat at restaurant Diamante Gastrobar, won the award in 2024.

Woods, the sixth recipient of the award, will receive an undisclosed financial donation from the organisers to support her Byron Bay initiative Karkalla On Country. 'We are excited to support the continued development of her invaluable contributions,' said Drew.
'I believe food is a powerful way to connect people to culture, land, and history,' said Woods. 'My goal is to continue creating spaces where we can all come together, embrace native and locally grown ingredients that not only honour the environment but also preserve the sustainable practices that have been passed down through generations.'
Named after the native plant also known as pigface, Karkalla On Country is inspired by the cook's first Byron Bay restaurant called Karkalla which closed in 2024. There, Woods served dishes including crisp saltbush, and akoya oysters with macadamia and lemon myrtle. Karkalla On Country, which offers a combined cultural and dining experience, opened in Myocum, a short drive from Byron, last year.

Woods is also the author of cookbook Karkalla at Home: Native Foods and Everyday Recipes for Connecting to Country. On MasterChef Australia, Woods came in fourth place in season 4.
The award is one of several individual awards announced ahead of the World's 50 Best Restaurants 2025 awards ceremony, which will be held in Italy on 19 June. Hong Kong restaurant Wing was commended for their front of house service, Thailand's Pichaya 'Pam' Soontornyanakij was named best female chef and Khufu's restaurant in Cairo was tipped as 'One to Watch'.

Rugby great Mike Tindall's Instagram post featuring him getting special access as he attended one of the biggest NRL games of the year could spell trouble for the code. A packed house was on hand at Accor Stadium in Sydney 's west on July 9 to watch the Queensland Maroons secure a shock series win over the New South Wales Blues in the deciding match of the 2025 State of Origin series. Former England international Tindall, who is now part of the British Royal Family, was at the match as the special guest of Queensland coach Billy Slater. Tindall is married to Zara Tindall - daughter of Princess Anne and granddaughter of Queen Elizabeth II - and they have three children together. He also became close friends with Slater after they crossed paths at a polo event in Queensland back in January 2024. Tindall has since posted a series of behind-the-scenes photos and videos from his State of Origin experience, which saw him and his wife given access to the Maroons dressing room. Trindall is also the founder of R360, a rebel rugby union competition that will target some of the NRL's biggest names 'So so so good to be at the 'Decider' of #stateoforigin2025. The 46-year-old is a key ambassador for the breakaway rugby union competition R360, which needs to sign 200 players by September and is actively eyeing NRL talent. With the NRL expanding from 17 to 19 teams in the next few years, competition for players is fierce - and Tindall's involvement hints at a looming recruitment war between league and rebel rugby. R360 - short for Rugby 360 - is a proposed global, franchise-based league set to launch in September 2026. Co-founded by Tindall, it's backed by investors from Saudi Arabia, the US, UK, and elite sports franchises like Premier League, F1 and NFL. Penrith Panthers and NSW Blues star Nathan Cleary could be another target, given he has already achieved it all in the NRL and has previously been the subject of speculation about making a switch to union It aims to bring together around 300 top international players in eight men's and four women's teams. The competition would be scheduled across 16 rounds in condensed seasons split between April–June and August–September to avoid clashing with international windows. The concept borrows from the IPL cricket and LIV Golf models, featuring city-based teams, entertainment-packed match days, and seven-figure salaries for stars. Already a host of NRL players have been linked to the rebel competition. Newcastle Knights star Kalyn Ponga could be a major target for R360, especially given his recent openness to exploring options outside rugby league and previous experience playing the 15-a-side game. Ryan Papenhuyzen is reportedly one of their top targets, with the Melbourne Storm fullback said to be weighing a multi-million dollar offer as his current deal ends in 2026. New Zealand Warriors star Roger Tuivasa-Sheck has also attracted interest, with reports suggesting he could be offered a contract worth around $1.5million per season. speculation around a potential $3million annual offer - figures well beyond what the NRL salary cap can accommodate.

Gaudy lifestyle of controversial real estate agent who drives a $300,000 luxury car and boasts a $15million property empire - as three-year probe into alleged underquoting draws near
High-flying real estate agent Josh Tesolin may be under investigation by NSW Fair Trading, but he hasn't let that put a dampener on his lavish lifestyle. Despite the official scrutiny, Tesolin remains one of Australia's highest-performing agents, reportedly raking in $9million in commissions over the past financial year. Tesolin isn't just a top-selling real estate agent – he and his wife, Sophia, have amassed a property portfolio estimated at more than $15million. This includes a four-bedroom home in Bella Vista, purchased for $2.3million in July 2021, and a five-bedroom house in Rozelle, which sold for $2.2million in 2024. Tesolin also owns two investment properties on the outskirts of Brisbane, acquired for a combined $789,000. He drives a Bentley Bentayga, which start at around $395,800, and has a penchant for Gucci and Louis Vuitton loafers, which retail for $1,600 and $1,700 respectively. Tesolin is also known for his flashy custom suits, including a jacket lined with images of homes he seemingly had a hand in selling, worn at a conference in New Zealand. And on the agent's wrist? A Rolex Day-Date, known as the 'President' model thanks to its association with global power players, which start at around $62,000. The Rolex was made famous by US Presidents like Richard Nixon, Gerald Ford, and Donald Trump, as well as cultural icons Michael Jordan, Jay-Z, and Warren Buffett. Tesolin is also known for gifting luxury timepieces to his staff to mark milestones. One post on social media shows the agent gifting a sales agent a rose gold Rolex, estimated to be valued at over $50,000. In another, a watch worth an estimated $35,000 was handed out. Tesolin, who regularly wears colourful socks, has previously joked that the cartoon patterns help him stay 'relatable' to his clients. 'Vendors often judge agents from the outside - assuming we're arrogant or overly serious - but when I show up in Gucci shoes, a custom suit, and socks with flying pigs, it breaks the ice, makes me more approachable, and shows I don't take myself too seriously,' he told the One Life Club podcast in January, 2024. In 2021, Tesolin was awarded the Number 1 Agent in Australia by RateMyAgent, a title he secured four years in a row, from 2020 to 2023. His wife is listed as the office manager at Ray White Quakers Hill in Sydney's northwest, where Josh is the owner and principal. Daily Mail Australia in April revealed Tesolin and his agency were at the centre of a NSW Fair Trading investigation into underquoting and complaints. The agent publicly acknowledged the investigation for the first time in a podcast interview with disgraced agent Adrian Bo. 'What are we being investigated for? Fair Trading came in, asked for files, we complied with the regulator,' Tesolin said. 'Anything the regulator has asked, whether it be 500 files... three files... we have completely complied with the regulator at every single stage.' A Fair Trading spokesperson last week confirmed the investigation was ongoing. 'The Strata and Property Services Taskforce within NSW Fair Trading is investigating Quakers Hill Ray White Real Estate and Josh Tesolin following proactive compliance blitzes into underquoting and complaints,' they said. 'As this investigation is ongoing, no further comment is available at this time.' The inquiry is expected to wrap up in the coming weeks. Daily Mail Australia does not suggest Tesolin has engaged in underquoting, only that his agency is the subject of an active investigation.
