They were treated to handbell ringing, a beacon lighting and a tribute of remembrance by the town crier.
The Hyde Band concluded with the national anthems.

The day ended with a ceilidh featuring local band Murphy's Lore.
Everyone, including the French guests, joined in with the dancing.
The VE Day festivities, organised by Fordingbridge Town Council and supported by local groups such as Avon Valley Shed and Fordingbridge Rotary, came to a close on Saturday, May 10, with a Picnic in the Park.

Willy Chavarria made a bold statement about deportees at Paris Fashion Week

Men with shaved heads, dressed in all-white outfits, walk in a single-file line into a large auditorium with their hands tied behind their backs. They are forced to kneel, then they are bound together in circular formation, facing away from one another. This haunting scene is not from inside El Salavador's high-security CECOT prison, which has recently functioned as a holding place for some deported migrants captured in the United States by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents. It was the opening statement of Willy Chavarria's Paris Fashion Week show. On Friday, videos and photos began to circulate of show, in which 35 models walked the runway in the French capital that morning. José Feliciano's version of 'California Dreamin'' played in the background during the show; musicians Danny Lux and Rainao were among those who walked the runway. Mexican singer-songwriter Vivir Quintana also performed. The reception to the fashion show-turned-performance art was largely positive online — with most people applauding the move as a bold political statement. Others, however, lambasted it as distasteful. 'I'm crying ugly tears,' one TikTok user commented on a video of the presentation. 'It really does show that fashion is revolutionary and can be a powerful tool to bring injustice to light.' Another user wrote, 'You can say EVERYTHING without saying anything.' 'Fashion IS political, and I'm here for it,' someone wrote in the comment section of another video of the show. In praise of Chavarria's art, one commentator said, 'SPEAK ON IT! Our people need help and this is exactly how we bring awareness.' Others on Instagram chimed in to criticize the demonstration for using the imagery. 'This is so weird. Why monetize on it, it's like the bad is bad and you're making a show about it,' someone commented on an Instagram video of the show. 'I wonder how the prisoners would feel about this?' For his part, Chavarria saw an opportunity to address the 'dehumanization of how immigrants are being treated in the United States,' according to a press release. The runway opening was presented in partnership with the American Civil Liberties Union and was intended to directly reference the Salvadoran prisons detaining U.S. immigrants. The white tees worn by the models revealed a message from the civil rights organization that read: 'The ACLU dares to create a more perfect union — beyond one person, party or side.' 'I'm not interested in luxury as a symbol of privilege. I'm interested in luxury as a symbol of truth in one's own character,' Chavarria said of the project, in a press statement he issued Friday. 'Exquisite tailoring and craftsmanship worn to elevate one's personal intent — that's power. That's fashion.' The Times has reached out to Chavarria for further comment.

New ‘The Bear' Season Features Mutant Carmy Terrorizing Chicago After Falling Into Vat Of Beef Juice

CHICAGO—With the fourth season of the hit FX show now streaming, viewers reportedly tuned into new episodes of The Bear Wednesday and watched a mutant Carmen Berzatto terrorize Chicago after falling into a vat of beef juice. 'This year we decided to go in a different direction with Carmy, who has up until now been portrayed as an anxiety-ridden twentysomething chef who thrives on chaos, rather than as a hybrid human-meat creature of nightmarish proportions,' show creator Christopher Storer said of Jeremy Allen White's character, who in the season premiere undergoes a grotesque transformation after slipping—or, spoiler, possibly being pushed—off some rickety ceiling rafters into a gurgling tank of Italian beef juice that has been left precariously uncovered by Carmy's mistake-prone kitchen staff. 'This was an acting challenge for Jeremy, who essentially had to play a whole new role because Carmy is now a 60-foot-tall tangle of flesh and chuck roast hell-bent on destroying the city as he searches for more giardiniera to feast on. At the same time, he needed to maintain the nuance of an emotionally tormented prodigy grappling with the grief hidden somewhere deep inside the wet, pulsing French bread that has fused with his skin.' 'Without giving too much away, fans can expect the usual kitchen drama as Carmy, now known to horrified onlookers as 'Mutant Beef Guy,' struggles to balance his work life as a purveyor of fine dining with his personal life as an ungodly, succulent affront to nature,' Storer continued. 'Prepare for your emotions to swell as Mutant Beef Guy watches Claire from the shadows, knowing she will never love him now that he's an abomination. Meanwhile, Sydney is the only person who can communicate with the grunting, massive regional delicacy and see the capacity for Michelin-level plating beyond his deformed exterior. As she struggles to cover for him in the kitchen, she must also fend off the evil sandwich poachers who want to place him in captivity.' Saying they enjoyed the climactic showdown between Mutant Beef Guy and Dr. Sausage atop the Willis Tower, many viewers also praised the season four finale's post-credit scene, which hints at a future spinoff in which the two join forces to fight hunger as 'The Combo.'
