Southampton beat Man United in SuperCupNI final
Rooney and Jacey Carrick, sons of former Manchester United players Wayne and Michael, were two big-name attractions at the Coleraine Showgrounds for the Premier final.
The two former England internationals in attendance for the game, but it was Southampton who were celebrating come the full-time whistle.
The Saints started the game well as Daniels and Max Little had early chances, while Rooney fired wide for United.
United winger Ederson DeJonge-Seiros almost opened the scoring after beating keeper George Moloney in the area but he could only shoot wide from a narrow angle.
Samuel O'Brien then forced Moloney into a strong save before Abdoulaye Douka Nkoto curled a free-kick over in first-half injury time as United ended the half in a strong manner.
The Premier League side picked up where they left off as Rooney and Carrick both had chances, but Southampton opened the scoring seven minutes after the restart.
Little found Marley Parry in the area and the winger picked out Daniels, who could not miss from close range.
Rooney fired into the side netting as United looked for an immediate response, and Camron Mpofu missed a golden opportunity to equalise when he headed wide from close range after Emmanuel Ziro's shot was saved.
Gazimagamed Ibragimov fired over in injury-time from a corner and that was United's last chance as Southampton lifted the title.

New Orleans Saints training camp: Highlights from Day 10's scrimmage
The New Orleans Saints took the field again on Sunday for Day 10 of training camp and their ninth practice. It was a busy day for the players as practice ran for over two hours, their longest yet, and was filled to the brim with scrimmage action. The Saints ran 126 plays, getting pretty much everyone some time on the field. Tyler Shough looked the best of the quarterbacks, but that wasn't saying much. The offense scored just one touchdown and had two turnovers, though there should have likely been more. There were some positive plays on both sides of the ball, though. Linebacker Nephi Sewell and cornerback Kool-Aid McKinstry were the defenders who came away with interceptions. Forcing more turnovers was one of the biggest keys to success for this defense and they have done a good job of that so far. Here are some highlights from Day 10 of practice: This article originally appeared on Saints Wire: New Orleans Saints training camp: Highlights from Day 10's scrimmage

Herefordshire jockey Hollie Doyle wins at Goodwood Festival
HEREFORDSHIRE horse rider Hollie Doyle was celebrating her latest success at the Qatar Goodwood Festival Meeting last week. Doyle was on board Witness Stand who sprung a 25/1 surprise in a dramatic G2 HKJC World Pool Lennox Stakes. There was drama even before the gates opened when two-time Lennox Stakes winner Kinross was withdrawn after being kicked by Audience, while soon after the start, Royal Ascot winner Noble Champion was pulled up by Kieran Shoemark. The seven-furlong contest was run at a searching gallop, with three horses going clear from an early stage. One of those was Witness Stand, who travelled up strongly over two furlongs out and never looked in any danger afterwards under Doyle. Lake Forest (11/1) fared best of those from off the pace as he went down by almost three lengths in second, while last year's winner Audience (3/1JF) was third having been unable to go with the winner in the straight. It is a breakout success for Dr Richard Newland & Jamie Insole, who started training in partnership in 2023. Insole was formerly assistant trainer to Charlie Hills. Insole said: 'I have been involved in a lot of big winners, and to actually train one myself is pretty special. My grandad was a jockey and a trainer, and my uncle Will Kennedy was a National Hunt jockey. So racing is in the blood and I did them all proud today. 'We bought Witness Stand for 100,000gns at the horses-in-training sales. He went under the radar and we immediately had offers of more money for him. I already had this race in mind and he ran a great race at Chester last time, when they broke the track record. The bit of ease in the ground helped him and he looked pretty good. 'I wouldn't have run him if we didn't think he had a good chance. The Chester run gave us confidence to come here. It is lucky that I put him in the Group One Prix de la Foret this morning. That is looking like a pretty good idea now. He is in the Hungerford Stakes but will have to carry a penalty in that now, so we will see. 'We have had an amazing season. That is 27 winners now. We have a really good team. Hopefully we can keep going and keep getting these big winners.' Doyle said: 'A great training performance by Jamie Insole and Dr Richard Newland, plus everyone back at home, to get this horse back on track, not winning in handicap company but in Group company. 'He has some really good form, is a Listed winner and, on ratings, he wasn't far behind Audience. He had quite a lot to prove but he stood up. It is a bit of a shock to the system but Jamie wasn't shocked.' Lake Forest's rider Tom Marquand said: 'We were always going to be reliant upon the second wave getting up to the first wave, and they just lost touch with them, which made it tough work for us. 'You can only go as fast as you can go in mid-race, and this fellow wasn't really travelling. I opted to go back inside to see if I could save a bit of ground but ultimately it made no difference. The winner had gone, he'd sailed, and it's tough to bridge those gaps on a track like this.'

Mimi Rhodes banks in wild hole-in-one at the Women's British Open
Mimi Rhodes didn't win the Women's British Open on Sunday afternoon at Royal Porthcawl, but she easily walked away with the shot of the tournament. Rhodes, who finished T19 in the major championship in Wales on Sunday, actually banked in a hole-in-one at the par-3 fifth. She landed her tee shot on the front of the green, and it bounced up perfectly toward the cup. But, instead of rolling right past the hole like it was on track to, Rhodes' ball bounced off of Steph Kyriacou's ball and into the hole for the ace. Just watch: Kyriacou, who actually hit her first hole-in-one on the LPGA Tour on Friday, was just inches away from an ace herself. 'I wasn't expecting it to go in, so I just picked up my tee, and I heard everyone going crazy,' Rhodes said. 'Yeah, extra loud than usual, so I knew something had happened. Then we just walked up to the green and it was in the hole. 'I had no idea it hit Steph's ball until I just saw the video, so that's unbelievable.' [Join or create a Yahoo Fantasy Football league for the 2025 NFL season] Rhodes ended up shooting a 2-over 74 on Sunday. She finished T19 at 1-under on the week. The 23-year-old has won three times on the Ladies European Tour in her career, most recently at the Dutch Ladies Open in May. Miyu Yamashita wins Women's British Open Miyu Yamashita held on and fended off a late push from Charley Hull on Sunday to claim the first major championship of her career. Yamashita posted a 2-under 70 in her final round on Sunday to grab the two-shot win in Wales. She went bogey-free through her first 16 holes of the day, and made the turn at 3-under, before her lone slip with a bogey at the 17th. But by that point, Hull was already in the clubhouse and was too far back. Yamashita ended the week at 11-under, two shots ahead of Hull and Minami Katsu in second. Hull started the day three shots off the lead, but made five birdies in her first 14 holes of the final round to get right in the mix. But she stalled out after a pair of bogeys down the stretch. Yamashita, who turned 24 on Saturday, is in her rookie season on the LPGA Tour and had yet to win on the circuit until Sunday, though she's now recorded seven top-10 finishes this year. The win also earned her a record $1.46 million check. 'To win such a historic tournament in front of all these amazing fans is such an incredible feeling, and to have my family around me to have so much support from everyone here is just amazing,' she said. 'To be part of such a moment in history is something very, very special.'
