Railways launches ‘Swarnim Bharat Yatra' to commemorate Independence Day with 10-day heritage tour
The 'Swarnim Bharat Yatra' train is aimed at commemorating India's Independence Day with a 9-night, 10-day tour covering key historical and cultural sites associated with India's freedom movement and heritage.
The first destination of the 'Swarnim Bharat Yatra' is Ahmedabad's Sabarmati Ashram, one of the key centres of Mahatma Gandhi's freedom movement.
Following this, the train will visit the intricate 15th-century Adalaj Stepwell and continue with a day trip to Modhera, known for its ancient Sun Temple, and Patan – home to the UNESCO-listed Rani Ki Vav.
In Kevadia, Gujarat, travellers will witness the iconic Statue of Unity, the tallest statue in the world, along with the Sardar Sarovar Dam.
The journey then proceeds to Pune, where the Aga Khan Palace – a landmark of the Quit India Movement – and sacred sites such as the Bhimashankar Jyotirlinga await.
In Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar (Aurangabad), tourists will explore the UNESCO World Heritage Sites of the Ajanta and Ellora Caves, along with the Ghrishneshwar Jyotirlinga. The tour concludes with visits to Jhansi Fort and the historic temples and palaces of Orchha, before returning to Delhi.
The Deluxe AC Tourist Train has a composition of First AC, Second AC, and Third AC classes, accommodating 150 tourists with modern amenities such as dining cars, shower cubicles, sensor-based washrooms, foot massagers, and CCTV-enabled security, with boarding facilities available at Delhi Safdarjung, Gurgaon, Rewari, Ringas, Phulera, and Ajmer.
The Railways said that the IRCTC has fixed the tour prices at Rs 71,585 (3AC), Rs 81,675 (2AC), Rs 94,845 (1AC Cabin), and Rs 1,01,430 (1AC Coupe), which includes train travel, three-star hotel accommodation, vegetarian meals, transfers, sightseeing in an AC vehicle, insurance, and IRCTC tour manager services.

It is important to note that if the passengers are booking train tickets online via IRCTC or offline via Passenger Reservation System (PRS) counters and authorised agents, Aadhaar OTP verification will now be an essential step in the process. Tatkal tickets can be booked one day prior to the train's departure date, excluding the journey date. Tatkal train tickets for AC classes such as 1A, 2A, 3A, CC, EC) can be booked from 10:00 AM on the day before the journey. For non-AC classes (like Sleeper and Second Sitting), tatkal bookings open at 11:00 AM on the same day. Step 7: To book a Tatkal ticket in the selected train, click on the 'Book Now' button. Step 8: Now fill in all the details, including the names of the passengers. Step 9: Enter the verification code. Step 10: Enter the passenger's mobile number to receive free SMS alerts for booking and cancellation. Step 11: Click the Continue button. Step 12: Review all the details, complete the payment process, and click Continue again. Step 13: Click on the 'Make Payment and Book' button. Starting July 1, 2025, only Aadhaar authenticated users will be allowed to book Tatkal Train Tickets on the IRCTC Website and Mobile Apps. TN's Gingee Fort is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site
It is among the 11 forts built, adapted, or expanded by the Marathas between the late 17th and early 19th centuries that have been clubbed together as the Maratha Military Landscapes, and declared as 44th UNESCO World Heritage Site of India. Gingee Fort, or Senji Fort, the largest fort in Tamil Nadu, covering 2,700 acres and three hillocks in the Pakkamalai range in the Villupuram district, has been named a World Heritage Site by (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization). It is among the 11 forts built, adapted, or expanded by the Marathas between the late 17th and early 19th centuries that have been clubbed together as the Maratha Military Landscapes, and declared as 44th UNESCO World Heritage Site of India. Hyderabad: The Telangana Maratha Mandal and the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maratha Navayuvak Mandal have expressed immense joy following UNESCO's declaration of 12 sites associated with Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj as World Heritage Sites. These sites, now recognised as the 'Maratha Military Landscapes of India,' are hailed as living examples of the Maratha Empire's valour and Indian architectural prowess. Prakash Patil, President of the Maratha Mandal, and Dilip Jagtap, General Secretary, alongside Madan Jadhav, President of the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maratha Navayuvak Mandal, called the recognition a matter of pride for all of India, not just Maharashtra. They extended congratulations to all involved for UNESCO's acknowledgement of the historical and cultural significance of these forts as World Heritage. The decision was made during the 47th meeting of the World Heritage Committee. The organisations highlighted that the world will now become acquainted with Chhatrapati Shivaji's strategic warfare, foresight, and the architectural brilliance embedded within these forts. The 12 recognised sites include 11 forts in Maharashtra: Salher Fort (Nashik), Panhala Fort (Kolhapur), Shivneri Fort and Rajgarh Fort (Pune), Khanderi Fort, and Rajyagarh Fort (Raigad), Pratapgarh Fort (Satara), Suvarnagiri Fort (Ratnagiri), Vijaydurg Fort and Sindhudurg Fort (Sindhudurg). Additionally, Jinji Fort, located in Villapuram, Tamil Nadu, is also included. These forts, built in harmony with their geographical features, have now received UNESCO's World Heritage designation. The Maratha leaders emphasised that these forts exemplify Maratha freedom and their struggle against Mughal rule. They anticipate that this recognition will familiarise the world with Chhatrapati Shivaji's military policies and vision, while also boosting tourism in India.
