CEO and founder of diversified trading firm DRW Holdings sold Michigan home for $7M

Chicago Tribune15-03-2025
Since July 2023, the CEO and founder of Chicago-based diversified trading firm DRW Holdings has tried to sell a prominent, five-bedroom Wicker Park mansion, which is currently listed for $5.995 million.
But that vintage mansion isn't the only residential real estate Donald R. Wilson Jr. has tried to sell of late. Last year, Wilson sold an eight-bedroom, 10,750-square-foot mansion on Lake Michigan in Union Pier, Michigan, for $7 million.
Co-listing agent Toni Philander Morris of @properties Christie's International Real Estate declined to comment on the seller or the home, but confirmed that that $7 million sale was a record sale for the multiple listing service in southwest Michigan's Harbor Country, an area popular with many Chicago-area residents. At least one Harbor Country home, in nearby New Buffalo, reportedly sold for more when it changed hands in an off-market deal in 2023 for more than $8.5 million.
But in recent months, no Harbor Country home has sold for more than even $5 million, and only one has traded for more than $4 million.
Wilson currently owns and lives in a Lincoln Park mansion. He also has shown an affinity for commercial real estate, overseeing the renovations of other vintage Chicago properties, including the Three Arts Club on the Gold Coast, the Robey Hotel in Bucktown and the old Noel State Bank building in Bucktown. He has undertaken these commercial projects through DRW's real estate arm.
The Union Pier mansion, however, is far from vintage. Built in 2007, the mansion has some 99 feet of Lake Michigan frontage, along with 6-1/2 bathrooms, one fireplace, a lower level with a wine cellar, a 12-person theater and a gym. It also has a kitchen with new Wolf appliances and a Sub-Zero refrigerator, along with a primary bedroom suite that has a walk-in closet, office space and a sitting tub.
Outside on the 0.65-acre property are a pool and a deck facing the lake.
Through a Delaware limited liability company based at DRW's offices, Wilson paid $4.05 million in 2020 to buy the mansion from a Michigan LLC owned by Jonathan Graham, according to public records. Wilson then listed it in 2023 for $9.2 million before cutting his asking price to $8.5 million later that year. He sold the Union Pier mansion last year for $7 million to another Delaware limited liability company whose manager has homes in Palm Beach, Fla. and Oak Park, according to public records.
Meanwhile, through an opaque land trust, Wilson paid $4.8 million in 2021 in an off-market deal for the 8,250-square-foot red brick imitation castle-style Wicker Park mansion and its 0.25-acre property, and weeks later, he paid $1.475 million to a separate seller for the adjoining coach house and its 0.09-acre property, immediately to the east. Wilson then announced and ultimately completed renovations to the mansion and linked the mansion to the coach house, listing agent Tim Salm of Jameson Sotheby's told Elite Street.
Then, in 2023, Wilson put the expanded and renovated Wicker Park mansion on the market for $6.95 million. He cut his asking price to $6.5 million later that year and then in July 2024 to $5.995 million, which is its current price.

STMicroelectronics to acquire NXP's MEMS sensors business

STMicroelectronics (ST) has agreed to acquire NXP Semiconductors' micro-electromechanical systems (MEMS) sensors business in a deal valued at up to $950m. The transaction includes an upfront cash payment of $900m, with an additional $50m contingent on specific technical milestones. This acquisition focuses primarily on enhancing STMicroelectronics' capabilities in automotive safety and industrial applications. By integrating NXP's MEMS technologies, STMicroelectronics aims to broaden its portfolio across these sectors, with significant implications for both automotive and industrial markets. NXP executive vice president and analogue and automotive embedded systems general manager Jens Hinrichsen said: 'NXP is a leading supplier of automotive MEMS based motion and pressure sensors, with a long history of strong customer adoption. 'However, after careful portfolio review the company has decided the business does not fit into its long-term strategic direction. We have agreed with STMicroelectronics that the product line will fit ideally into ST's portfolio, manufacturing footprint and strategic roadmap.' MEMS technologies are integral to vehicle safety systems such as airbags and tyre pressure monitoring, as well as various industrial applications including pressure sensors and accelerometers. The deal is expected to be accretive to STMicroelectronics' earnings per share immediately upon completion. Financially, the acquired business generated approximately $300m in revenue in 2024. According to STMicroelectronics, the MEMS sensors sector is experiencing rapid growth, particularly within the automotive industry, where demand for advanced safety and monitoring systems is on the rise. This acquisition allows STMicroelectronics to strengthen its market position, leveraging established relationships with automotive Tier 1 suppliers. Incorporating NXP's MEMS business will also enhance STMicroelectronics' research and development (R&D) capabilities. The integration aims to utilise advanced intellectual property and skilled R&D teams to foster faster innovation cycles and offer tailored solutions. STMicroelectronics analogue, power & discrete, MEMS and sensors group president Marco Cassis said: 'The planned acquisition is a great strategic fit for ST. 'Together with ST's existing MEMS portfolio, these highly complementary technologies and customer relationships, focused on automotive safety and industrial technologies, will strengthen our position in sensors across key segments in automotive, industrial and consumer applications.' The completion of the acquisition is subject to receipt of regulatory approvals and other customary closing conditions, with an expected closure in the first half of 2026. Separately, STMicroelectronics reported its second-quarter financial results for 2025. The Switzerland-based company recorded net revenues of $2.77bn with a gross margin of 33.5%. However, it incurred an operating loss of $133m due to restructuring charges and related costs. For the first half of the year, net revenues reached $5.28bn. Looking forward, the company projects third-quarter revenues of approximately $3.17bn. Bank of America says these five stocks have more room to run ahead of earnings

Bank of America said this week it sees a host of companies that are well positioned ahead of earnings. Analysts named stocks like Amazon that have compelling valuations or expected catalysts as quarterly reporting season continues. Other buy-rated names it cited include: Anheuser-Busch InBev, Oddity Tech , Bilibili and AppLovin. Oddity Tech The global beauty tech platform is firing on all cylinders, the firm wrote. Analyst Anna Lizzul praised the company's "innovative" digital offering in a recent note and says it has a wide moat for growth. "With the vast majority of its sales direct-to-consumer (DTC) we see ODD at a strategic vantage point to grow with this rise," she wrote. The firm also raised its price target to $80 per share from $68 in advance of the company's earnings report on Aug. 4. "We see ODD well positioned to benefit from the beauty category increasingly moving to online sales as consumers' preferred purchasing channels shift," she went on to say. Shares are up 64% this year. Bilibili Analyst Miranda Zhuang is standing by shares of the China-based online video platform. Bank of America recently attended an investor day and came away feeling even more constructive on the stock. "Management highlighted strategies centering on high-quality content, AI empowerment to content and monetization, long-lifecycle games," she wrote. Zhuang raised her price target on the stock to $27 per share from $25 citing the company's second-quarter earnings report in mid-August as yet another positive catalyst for the stock. "We reiterate our Buy rating given Bilibili's unique platform value proposition, long growth runway, and benefits from AI," Zhuang said. Bilibili shares are up 28% this year. Anheuser-Busch InBev Shares of the alcoholic beverage giant have plenty more room to run, according to the firm. The company is scheduled to report its second-quarter earnings on July 31. "Volume in Q2 will likely be held back, again, by China and the US, but we expect continued margin expansion in Q2, supporting +5.6% organic EBITDA growth," analyst Andrea Pistacchi wrote. However, despite the possible volume decline, the firm says there's plenty of other positive catalysts. "One of the main areas of focus for Q2/H1 results will be share buy backs," he said. Meanwhile, shares of the company are up almost 40% this year. "We continue to like ABI, as one of the most reliable staples compounders," he went on to say. Oddity Tech "An innovative consumer tech platform, ODD utilizes proprietary technology to provide consumers with product recommendations. We see ODD well positioned to benefit from the beauty category increasingly moving to online sales as consumers' preferred purchasing channels shift. ... With the vast majority of its sales direct-to-consumer (DTC) we see ODD at a strategic vantage point to grow with this rise." Bilibili "Management highlighted strategies centering on high-quality content, AI empowerment to content and monetization, long-lifecycle games. ... We reiterate our Buy rating given Bilibili's unique platform value proposition, long growth runway, and benefits from AI. ... We expect 2Q ad business to benefit from good ad spend from ecommerce campaigns and the digital products category." Anheuser-Busch InBev "Volume in Q2 will likely be held back, again, by China and the US, but we expect continued margin expansion in Q2, supporting +5.6% organic EBITDA growth. .... One of the main areas of focus for Q2/H1 results will be share buy backs. ... We continue to like ABI, as one of the most reliable staples compounders." AppLovin "APP remains top pick under coverage. We see big upside to CY26 EBITDA expectations, with this print potentially prompting upward revisions; the vast majority of investors we spoke with appear to exclude both a continued managed service onboarding ramp, and a major self-serve ramp in CY26." Amazon "Expect retail beat, AWS growth in focus for 2nd half. ... We think Amazon's focus on the customers and the buyer experience is right for the Internet. We think Amazon is well positioned to capitalize on the global growth of eCommerce and other secular trends such as cloud computing, online advertising and connected devices." Read more.
