Spanish Horror ‘The Wailing' Set for U.S. Theatrical Release After Film Movement Pickup (EXCLUSIVE)
The announcement was made by Michael Rosenberg, president, Film Movement and Vicente Canales, managing director of Film Factory Entertainment, the film's sales agent.

The film, a Spain-Argentina co-production, earned Martin-Calero the Silver Shell for best director at San Sebastián and was nominated for the Spanish Academy Goya Award for best new director. It is set for a theatrical release in 2025, followed by digital and home entertainment releases.
In the film, three young women separated by decades and thousands of miles are terrorized by the same ethereal threat that nobody, not even they, can properly see. The entity manifests more like a trick of lighting than anything corporeal. In each case, when the women attempt to confront the presence, they hear the same horrific wailing.
Martin-Calero co-wrote 'The Wailing' with Isabel Peña ('The Beasts,' 'The Candidate'), an extremely accomplished scribe who frequently works with Rodrigo Sorogoyen. The film was produced by up-and-coming Madrid label Caballo Films, backers of partner Sorogoyen's films, including 'The Beasts' – co-written by Peña – which won the Spanish Academy Goya award for best picture in 2023 and a French best foreign film Cesar.
The film's non-linear narrative has drawn praise from critics in Spain and abroad. Film Movement's Rosenberg says of his company's latest pickup: 'For his first feature-length film, Pedro really turns the horror genre on its head, creating something that is wholly original, deeply thought-provoking and rich with atmosphere. Between the superb turns from the trio of female leads and surprising narrative twists and turns, North American audiences are sure to leave the theater thinking about 'The Wailing' for a long time.'
In addition to 'The Wailing,' Film Movement has acquired a range of international films, including Sean Devlin's 'Asog,' Sook-Yin Lee's 'Paying for It' and 'Julie Keeps Quiet,' which debuted at Cannes.

Coldplay returns to the stage with a warning: ‘We're going to use our cameras'
Coldplay returned to the stage for the first time since a viral 'Kiss Cam' incident at one of their concerts made global headlines and prompted the resignation of a tech CEO. While the band did not directly acknowledge the controversy, frontman Chris Martin gave a tongue-in-cheek nod to the episode during their performance at Camp Randall Stadium in Wisconsin on Saturday, July 19. 'We'd like to say hello to some of you in the crowd,' Martin told the cheering audience during the now-infamous 'Jumbotron Song' portion of the concert, according to a clip shared on social media. 'How we're going to do that is we're going to use our cameras and put some of you on the big screen.' He added, 'So please, if you haven't done your makeup, do your makeup now.' The remark comes just days after a show at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Mass., on Wednesday, July 1, where a couple's panicked reaction to being shown on the venue's Jumbotron ignited an online firestorm. The woman quickly turned away, and the man ducked out of view as the camera landed on them. 'Oh, look at these two! Oh what? Either they're having an affair, or they're just very shy,' Martin said to the crowd at the time. The man was later identified as Andy Byron, then CEO of data company Astronomer. Byron resigned on Saturday, July 19, following days of Internet scrutiny and his placement on leave. Byron had served as CEO of the company since 2023. He has two children with his wife, educator Megan Kerrigan Byron. Astronomer, in a statement, cited the importance of leadership accountability and maintaining company values. The woman in the video, identified in some reports as Kristin Cabot, the firm's chief human resources officer, has reportedly also been placed on leave. While Coldplay has not issued a formal statement, the band's Instagram recap of the Madison show omitted any reference to the incident.

Coldplay gives fans warning in first concert since viral 'Kiss Cam' video
Coldplay frontman Chris Martin demonstrated that he had learned what those who practice prose for the masses have long known: you have to make things undeniably clear. In the band's first concert since the now-infamous 'Kiss Cam' video incident, Martin nodded to the viral video in somewhat of a warning to fans. "We'd like to say hello to some of you in the crowd," Martin said during the so-called "Jumbotron Song" portion of the July 19 show in Madison, Wisconsin. "How we're going to do that is use our cameras and put some of you on the big screen." Despite this subtle nod, Coldplay has not outright mentioned the viral incident since it happened. The band did, however, post a recap of the show, minus the incident, on their Instagram page which now has thousands of comments and over 1 million likes. The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel – a part of the USA TODAY Network – reported that no displays of affection were shown during the "Jumbotron Song." But there was one noteworthy moment. The cameras did find the tour's Pro Tools director, Madison native Bill Rahko, a co-producer and engineer who's worked with the band and was spotted with a "Wisconsin" shirt in a control room. "He knows everything about us," Martin said as part of the praise he heaped on a misty-eyed Rahko, lauding him for filling in for a sick Guy Berryman on bass for a show, helping them in the recording studio with little notice, and providing Martin with the beginning of the music for their blockbuster BTS collaboration "My Universe." "I can't tell you how much we love this man; we all do." What happened during the viral 'Kiss Cam' incident? The video from July 16 that went viral shows a man and a woman quickly letting go of each other when a "Kiss Cam" shows them on the giant screen at the concert in Foxborough, Massachusetts. 'Uh oh, what? Either they're having an affair or they're just very shy,' Coldplay frontman Chris Martin joked. The incident has led to Astronomer CEO Andy Byron resigning from the company, according to his now-former employer. USA TODAY has not confirmed the identities of the man and woman in the video and has reached out to the company for comment multiple times. 'Coldplayed' warnings hit other concerts Other artists have warned concertgoers that their secrets would remain within the walls of the venue in the wake of so-called "Coldplayed" phenomenon. "If there's anybody here with their side chick or whatever, I think, I think you're safe here," pop-country artist Morgan Wallen told the crowd at his June 18 concert in Glendale, Arizona – just outside of Phoenix. "I don't condone cheating anymore," he added. Country artist Luke Bryan joked about the incident during his June 17 concert in Greenville, South Carolina saying, "We're gonna shine our cameras on anybody. Who's here with their secretary tonight?" Bryan vamped part of his song "Strip it Down" before adding, "do not get caught tonight." Coldplay's remaining tour dates According to Coldplay's website, their next concert will be held on Tuesday, July 22 in Nashville, Tennessee. They are then set to play two shows at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida on Saturday July 26 and Sunday July 27 before going to London for a slate of shows in August and September. 'Superman' tops North American box office for 2nd weekend

Coming in at No. 2 is Jurassic World: Rebirth with $23.4 million, followed by I Know What You Did Last Summer at No. 3 with $13 million, Smurfs at No. 4 with $11 million and F1 at No. 5 with $9.6 million. Rounding out the top tier are How to Train Your Dragon at No. 6 with $5.4 million, Eddington at No. 7 with $4.3 million, Elio at No. 8 with $2 million, Lilo & Stitch at No. 9 with $1.5 million and 28 Years Later at No. 10 with $1.3 million.
