Auburn star Tahaad Pettiford arrested on DUI charge
The anticipated SEC Player of the Year contender for the upcoming season was released from jail midday and is no longer on the list as an inmate in the jail's log, the outlet reported.
The incident comes just weeks after Pettiford withdrew from the NBA draft to rejoin the Tigers for his sophomore season, looking to prove he is ready for the next level.

'We are aware of the situation, and we will handle it internally with Tahaad and his family,' Auburn coach Bruce Pearl said in a statement to ESPN on Saturday. 'We take these matters seriously and will learn and grow from it moving forward.'
In his freshman year, Pettiford averaged 11.6 points per game while shooting 42.1 percent from the field across an average 22.9 minutes.
He was a key member of an Auburn team that went on to reach the Final Four last season, averaging 15.2 points in the five tournament games.
The Jersey City native will be a big highlight of the team's next chapter after star Johni Broome was selected by the 76ers at 35th overall.
'I was happy to go through the process, getting feedback from NBA teams,' Pettiford told ESPN at the time of leaving the draft. 'Going back to Auburn is a better situation for me. I see myself being a higher pick next year. It wasn't 100 percent this year, so I didn't want to take that chance.'

Pettiford wasn't a part of the big freshman conversation throughout last season, but for the upcoming year, he is on a short list of players as a possible preseason All-American.
In the past, Pearl has applauded Pettiford's team-player mentality when it came to accepting his place and playing time among a team of veterans.
'I suppose some would just sort of expect that to be a problem,' Pearl said about Pettiford's situation in April. 'Not a word. Not a body language, shoulder shrug, roll eye ever from Tahaad.'

Raiders' Maxx Crosby Climbs the Ladder in ESPN's Positional Rankings
Raiders' Maxx Crosby Climbs the Ladder in ESPN's Positional Rankings originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Las Vegas Raiders hit the jackpot during the 2019 NFL Draft when they selected Eastern Michigan edge rusher Maxx Crosby. They waited until the No. 106 overall pick in the fourth round to do so, but he has been a game changer for the Silver and Black. Advertisement Through six NFL seasons, he has compiled 59.5 sacks and 105 tackles for loss, as well as nine forced fumbles. He has led the league in tackles for loss on two occasions and been named to four Pro Bowls and two All-Pro Second-Teams. There is no definitive answer on where Crosby ranks compared to the NFL's other elite edge rushers, but the consensus is that he belongs somewhere in the top five. Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes (15) and Las Vegas Raiders DE Maxx Crosby (98).Jay Biggerstaff-Imagn Images According to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, who polled NFL executives, coaches and scouts, Crosby ranks at No. 4 in the league among all edge rushers. This is up from his ranking of No. 5 before last season. "Crosby is making waves in the pass-rush pantheon, vaulting one spot in each of the past three years," Fowler wrote. "Outdistancing Nick Bosa and stealing votes from Watt and Parsons is tough. Nearly half of Crosby's votes landed in the top three." Advertisement There has been an ongoing debate about who is better between Bosa and Crosby, as many felt that the Raiders star was robbed of the Defensive Player of the Year award that Bosa won in 2023. However, it appears that several NFL personnel members agree that he has surpassed Bosa, even though Crosby missed five games last season and had only 7.5 sacks and 17 tackles for loss. "Relentless motor, skilled rusher and never wants to leave the game," an NFL coordinator said. "Keeps getting better and better." An AFC coach also sang Crosby's praises, specifically his work ethic and refusal to leave the game for even a snap. Advertisement "For him to play at that high a level with that volume is incredible," a high-ranking AFC personnel staff member said. Crosby trailed the Browns' Myles Garrett, the Steelers' T.J. Watt, and the Cowboys' Micah Parsons in this ranking. He barely edged out Bosa, the Bengals' Trey Hendrickson and the Lions' Aidan Hutchinson for the No. 4 spot. 'Greatest in history': Starc stuns with feat never seen before in 148 years
Mitchell Starc has taken the fastest five-wicket haul in 148 years of Test cricket history, decimating the West Indies in a stunning spell in Jamaica. Australia were bowled out for 121 early on day three of the day-night Test, setting the Windies 204 for victory. But Starc put any thought of a West Indies victory to bed in the very first over. The superstar paceman dismissed John Campbell on the first delivery of the innings, and also sent Kevlon Anderson and Brandon King packing in a triple-wicket maiden first over. The hosts were 3-0 after the first six deliveries, and it only got worse. They were reduced to 5-7 when Starc got Shai Hope (2) and Mikyle Louis (4) in his third over, completing a five-wicket haul in just 2.3 overs (15 balls). It marked the fewest deliveries to complete a five-wicket haul in Test cricket history, breaking the previous record of 19 balls. Ernie Toshack achieved the feat in 19 balls in 1947, as did Stuart Broad in 2015 and Scott Boland in 2021 on debut at the MCG. Starc's fourth wicket of the innings took him to 400 for his career, and it came in his 100th match. Aussie great Brad Haddin described it as "ridiculous" bowling in commentary for ESPN, while Greg Blewett said it was the best he'd ever seen Starc bowl. Social media was also abuzz, with cricket writer Bharat Sundaresan commenting at the ground: "We've seen the Mitch Starc takes a wicket in his first over movie dozens of times over 100 Tests now but that was probably the most dramatic and incredible version of it. Three wickets and each one of them a Starc classic." When Josh Hazlewood got Roston Chase for a duck, the Windies were 6-11 in disastrous scenes. Starc has joined Shane Warne (708), Glenn McGrath (563) and Nathan Lyon (562) as the only Australians in Test cricket history with 400-plus wickets. Starc became the 18th player from all countries to achieve the staggering feat, and just the third left-armer. With 100 Tests and 400 wickets in the bag, Mitchell Starc went on to set a new record ⚡#WIvAUS — ESPNcricinfo (@ESPNcricinfo) July 14, 2025 Mitchell Starc has just produced the greatest opening spell in Test history.🐐 — Rafi (@rafi4999) July 14, 2025 Mitchell Starc is living proof that a bowler's legacy isn't defined by stats. Even those with better averages couldn't pull off what he does — ` (@chixxsays) July 14, 2025 Earlier, Australia had slumped to their lowest total against the West Indies since Courtney Walsh and Curtly Ambrose were wreaking havoc in 1995. But even after being skittled for 121, you had the sense the 204-run target would be out of reach for the Windies. It was Alzarri and Shamar Joseph who did the damage with the ball for the hosts, with the former claiming 5-27 after dominating under lights on day two. It then took just eight overs for the West Indies' quicks to take the final four wickets on Monday afternoon (Tuesday Aussie time), with Shamar Joseph finishing with 4-34. Carey passed an on-field tests after the initial blow, but was dismissed two balls later when he charged the West Indies quick and edged him to slip. Josh Inglis came in as Carey's substitute, and took two early catches on day three. Carey was spotted at the ground in Jamaica on Monday, and appeared to be in good spirits. with AAP

Bucks' Giannis Antetokounmpo creates interesting contract situation for Knicks wing
There haven't been any real rumors about Giannis Antetokounmpo wanting to leave the Milwaukee Bucks. However, when recently speaking on a live stream with streamer IShowSpeed, Antetokounmpo noted that many want him to play for the New York Knicks. Knicks fans continue to run with that, despite any lack of evidence suggesting that he doesn't want to play for Milwaukee any longer. Advertisement It's never fair to say never, given where the NBA stands. Still, it seems very unlikely that Antetokounmpo will play for another team anytime soon. Despite that, Dan Favale recently looked at the situation regarding the Knicks and Antetokounmpo, adding that there could be some interesting scenarios New York has to consider if it believes it has a real opportunity to land the two-time MVP. 'The Knicks are reportedly still hoping to win the Giannis trade sweepstakes, if and when they begin. His recent noncommittal assessment of the future will not do anything to diminish that hope. In the event he does become available, Bridges could be an integral part of talks. New York currently doesn't have any first-round picks to offer, and the Bucks will likely value anyone who keeps them competitive in the post-Giannis era, since they don't control the rights to their own first-rounder until 2031. Advertisement 'Signing Bridges to a new deal now removes him from the table. Players who sign his type of extension cannot be traded for six months,' he wrote. MORE: Knicks' Mikal Bridges contract situation gets interesting Giannis Antetokounmpo twist The Mikal Bridges extension is certainly one to watch out for, as the Knicks don't have much of a reason not to offer him a deal, given what they gave up for him. However, as he touched on, if they truly believe they have a chance to land Antetokounmpo, there wouldn't be much of a reason to give him a contract now, given he wouldn't be able to be traded for six months.
