Flooding damages electrical infra, disrupts power supply in 3 districts
Balasore: Electricity supply has been severely disrupted in several villages across Balasore, Bhadrak and Jajpur districts after incessant rainfall caused the Subarnarekha, Jalaka and Baitarani rivers to overflow, with floodwaters damaging electric poles, transformers and distribution lines at multiple sites. Sources said power to over 50,000 consumers in the three districts was temporarily disconnected due to flooding. The worst-affected areas include Basta, Baliapal and Bhograi blocks in Balasore, Chandabali and Dhamnagar in Bhadrak, and Binjharpur in Jajpur, where access remains restricted due to submerged roads. Damage to electrical infrastructure makes it difficult for authorities to resume supply promptly. Power has been partially restored in some areas. However, many villages continue to remain without electricity. In several locations, daytime power cuts are being implemented to facilitate repairs. In Jajpur, two blocks experienced major disruptions, affecting around 10,000 consumers. The Sundermuhin substation was particularly hard-hit, with six distribution transformers damaged, 11km of low-tension lines uprooted and a critical river-crossing distribution point destroyed. In Bhadrak, several villages, including Analdiha, Astak, Mishrapur, Khangara-Dhamnagar, Gochhayat Sahi, Pachhalo, Khadimahara, Pangata, Harihansa, Hasnabad and Nuasahi-Asurali, experienced outages. TPNODL deployed 60 personnel, replaced 50 damaged poles and restored power supply. Five substations located in waterlogged areas were temporarily powered through nearby transformers.
