Michelin Guide Singapore 2025: Two Japanese restaurants win big this year

The Guide has spoken: 288 restaurants in Singapore are worthy of a spot on the coveted list this year, with one restaurant added to the one-star line-up, and another promoted to two-star status. Ahead of this evening's Michelin Guide 2025 awards ceremony in Marina Bay Sands, the Guide first released its Bib Gourmand 2025 picks last week, with 11 new eateries joining the ranks. 2025 marks the ninth year since the Michelin Guide landed in Singapore. And while it's no secret that the F&B industry suffered plenty of closures recently (this year has 32 one-star restaurants compared to 42 last year, mostly due to closures), tonight's ceremony proves once again that our tiny city is still chock-full of culinary giants. Receiving both the Young Chef Award and his first star is Kazuki Arimoto of Omakase @ Stevens, the fine-dining restaurant at Novotel Singapore on Stevens which specialises in omakase with French culinary inflexions. Then there's chef-owner Yoshio Sakuta of Sushi Sakuta, who walks down the carpet teary-eyed to receive his shiny new two-Michelin-star plaque – a bump from his one-star award last year. The intimate 10-seater restaurant offers a seasonal omakase menu exclusively serving Japanese fish, and demonstrates precision in using two varieties of Japanese rice and five types of sushi vinegar. New entries aside, most of the list remains the same, with the Michelin three-star category dominated by three familiar names in the fine-dining scene. You guessed it – once again, French restaurants Les Amis and Odette, as well as contemporary European restaurant Zén remain snug in the watertight three-star zone. This is Odette's seventh consecutive year receiving three stars and Les Amis' sixth. Meanwhile, Singapore's two Michelin Green Star awardees retain their titles – contemporary Southeast Asian Fiz and Seroja continue to go above and beyond in their efforts to source for sustainable ingredients, conserve energy and reduce food waste. They also deliver big on flavour and are consistent picks on our Time Out Singapore 50 best restaurants list. All in all, Singapore now has a whopping 288 establishments on the Michelin Guide, including three three-stars, seven two-stars, thirty-two one-star, 89 Bib Gourmand, two Green stars and 157 Michelin Selected venues. Beauty buffs get compliments on their skin thanks to 'subtle' tinted moisturiser

'Lovely subtle product for no make-up days leaves a healthy, natural-looking glow with buildable coverage' Whether for running errands or just giving skin a breather, the 'no makeup' look is a go-to for many. Tinted moisturiser is a great way to acheive natural-looking coverage - and now there's a new launch to help get the effortless vibe. Laura Mercier's Tinted Moisturiser Natural Dewy SPF 30 (£39, Space NK) is the latest addition to the brand's roster, with fans already singing its praises. One shopper said it leaves them with a 'healthy, natural-looking glow', while another claimed they'd already purchased a second tube. The moisturiser helps to even out skin tone and deliver long-lasting coverage, while minimising the look of pores for a smoother, more refined finish. It's available in 15 shades, carefully developed to suit a broad spectrum of skin tones. The formula itself has a wealth of skin-loving ingredients. Organic French rock samphire helps reduce sebum production, keeping shine at bay throughout the day. Meanwhile, a white rose wine complex works to balance oil levels why eijitsu rose (a Japanese botanical extract) visibly tightens and blurs the appearance of pores. It also contains SPF30, making it ideal for everyday wear. For those who prefer to shop around, another tinted SPF I rate highly is Trinny London's BFF. I raved about it non-stop last year for its hydrating feel and glow-boosting finish. Otherwise, Merit's The Uniform Tinted Mineral SPF is also a great option. When I tried it, it blended seamlessly into my skin and didn't have a cakey finish. Back to Laura Mercier; it has had plenty of great reviews via Space NK. One shopper said: "Lovely subtle product for no make-up days leaves a healthy, natural-looking glow with buildable coverage. "It blurs skin imperfections well and blends well with other primer or moisturiser products, longwearing, a little goes a long way, so good price point, a firm favourite for mature skin." Another pleased reviewer said: "I tried the 15ml version of the Laura Mercier Natural Dewy Tinted Moisturiser in shade '3N Sand' and became obsessed with the product - it provides me with the perfect light coverage I am looking for. I have already repurchased the larger size of the product and will continue to repurchase in the future." However, not everyone was as impressed. One buyer noted: "The packaging was underwhelming, and I found the lid a bit bothersome to use. I prefer a pump-style dispenser. "Despite my skin being exfoliated, the product just sat on top of my skin; it didn't sink in. I found it had very few moisturising benefits or coverage so that I won't be using it again." Saying that, someone else wrote: "It is a really lovely and light texture, but also has good coverage - I have imperfections and it helps cover that up. Since wearing it, I have received two compliments on my skin - and I've never had compliments on my complexion before. A great product."

The hotel bar that makes the best martini in London, according to expert bartenders

Martinis are having a massive main character moment right now. Gone are the stuffy James Bond connotations; in London the martini is the tipple du jour, with icy coups stuffed with olives appearing in the Instagram photo dumps of all the city's coolest people. Charli xcx just hosted her wedding afterparty in a Dalston bar known for serving £8 ones. Many of London's drinkers will claim to know the best place for sipping the timeless bevvy, but if it's done wrong it can leave you trying to chug down a glass of tepid gin (or vodka) while wondering what all the fuss is about. So to find out where exactly is the best, Time Out asked seven bar experts, including Tayer + Elementary's Monica Berg, Lyaness ' Mr Lyan, and Coral Anderson of Swift, to nominate the best martini in the city. Here's what they said. According to the bar experts, London's very best martini can be found at the Connaught Hotel. This uber swish Mayfair hotel has several bars, two of which were nominated by our cocktail professionals for having the best martinis in town. First up was the hotel's famous Connaught Bar, recommended by co-founder of Hackney bar Equal Parts, Carina Soto Velásquez. This bougie art deco haunt often tops world's best bars lists, and has been known for slinging martinis served from a very posh trolley since it opened in 2008. 'The Connaught Bar makes an incredible classic martini,' said Soto Velásquez. 'All the work they do around the martinis there is brilliant. The classic gin martini with a lemon twist is gorgeous.' Also nominated was the Connaught Hotel's Coburg Bar, the quieter and smaller sibling to the Connaught Bar, which Three Sheets ' Max Venning said served up London's number one martini. More low-key than the grand main bar, punters are more likely to nab a table at the Coburg than the often full Connaught Bar. 'I like to sit outside in the atrium. It's really bright and airy and you can look over Mount Street,' Venning said. Venning's go-to order is a dry vodka martini with a twist, made with Belvedere. 'It's really crisp, and nice and stirred down with good dilution.' As for the runners up, perhaps London's most famous martini spot, Dukes Bar at Dukes Hotel in Mayfair was nominated by Monica Berg, while Rita's co-owners Missy Flynn and Gabriel Pryce recommended the Martini Bar at Egerton House Hotel – another Mayfair establishment. Mr Lyan's favourite was Waltz Bar, an intimate and new Japanese cocktail joint in Shoreditch serving a 'nice version of a Gibson'. Exale Brewing's Stephanie Randle-Solley chose the plush new Shoreditch resto and bar One Club Row, while Coral Anderson's pick for London's best martini was at Satan's Whiskers, a Bethnal Green cocktail bar known for serving top-notch classics. The best bars in London for 2025.
