Protesters turn out as woman appears in court over alleged support for Hamas
Student Sarah Cotte, from Camden, north London, has denied two charges of expressing 'an opinion or belief in support of a proscribed organisation'.
On October 9 2023, it is alleged she gave a speech at Soas University of London 'being reckless' as to whether a person would be encouraged to support a proscribed organisation.
Seven days later, she allegedly expressed support for Hamas by giving her opinion in a WhatsApp group chat.
On Friday, Cotte appeared at the Old Bailey and sat in the well of the court for a hearing before the trial judge, Richard Marks KC.
The judge set a further pre-trial hearing for October 24 and granted Cotte continued conditional bail.
The defendant faces a 10-day trial at the Old Bailey from February 23 next year.

Sources have reported that the Royal Family "hoped for a more leisurely and considered approach, building towards a full state visit." Instead, the trip is now expected to take place entirely in England, centering around Windsor Castle and including a glittering state banquet. While Princess Kate will almost definitely take part in Trump's visit, it's unclear if the Princess of Wales—who has scaled back her duties as she recovers from cancer—will be making a tiara appearance at the event. Trump was quick to accept the royal invitation in February, stating, "The answer is yes, on behalf of our wonderful first lady, Melania, and myself, the answer is yes. We look forward to being there and honoring The King, honoring your country. Your country is a fantastic country, and it will be an honor to be there." The trip will make Trump the only U.S. president to make two state visits to the U.K., a rare and historic distinction. He first met with Queen Elizabeth at Windsor Castle in 2018, later returning for an official state visit in 2019.

In October, masked intruders broke into a farm property on the castle grounds that's alarmingly close to Adelaide Cottage, the home of the Prince and Princess of Wales. And in February 2024, an unarmed man was found wandering in the gardens outside King Charles's Windsor Castle apartments. "Offenders entered a farm building and made off with a black Isuzu pick-up and a red quad bike," a police statement read following the October incident. The intruders escaped by driving through the very same gate the Wales family uses to access their property. While Princess Kate has been staying out of the spotlight since her May 22 trip to Scotland, next Saturday marks one of the biggest events on the royal calendar. On June 14, the Royal Family will gather to celebrate The King's annual birthday parade, Trooping the Colour—and fans should expect to see Princess Kate, Prince William and their three children in attendance.
