FIFA Club World Cup R016: Benfica vs Chelsea live match time, streaming

Chelsea will lock horns with Portuguese giants Benfica in the last 16 of the FIFA Club World Cup 2025 on Saturday evening, with a quarter-final place on the line. The match, set to take place in Charlotte, brings together two of Europe's most historic clubs in what promises to be a closely contested encounter.
Having finished second in Group D, Chelsea may consider themselves fortunate with their draw. A group-stage loss to Flamengo meant they avoided a more difficult path that would have seen them face German champions Bayern Munich. Instead, they take on a Benfica side that topped Group C, highlighted by a strong victory over Bayern in their final group match.
Despite being favourites on paper, Chelsea know they must approach the tie with focus. Benfica have a wealth of experience in European knockout competitions, particularly in the UEFA Champions League, and possess players capable of turning a game in an instant. With both teams bringing high-quality squads and plenty of motivation, this clash could be one of the standout fixtures of the round.
Benfica Team News
Benfica remain without long-term absentees Alexander Bah and Manu Silva, both of whom continue their recovery from injury. Midfielder Florentino Luís is also set to miss out, having not featured since sustaining a shoulder injury on matchday one. On a positive note, Andrea Belotti is available again after serving a suspension and will look to reclaim a starting spot ahead of in-form striker Vangelis Pavlidis, who netted his 30th goal of the season against Auckland. Veteran Ángel Di María is expected to continue in attack after scoring three penalties in three games, with Schjelderup also likely to start. In midfield, Renato Sanches and Leandro Barreiro may keep their places, although Orkun Kökçü is pushing for a recall.
Chelsea Team News
Wesley Fofana has joined Chelsea's camp in the United States but remains unavailable as he continues recovering from a thigh injury. Nicolas Jackson will serve the second and final match of his suspension, meaning Liam Delap is expected to start up front. Cole Palmer and Pedro Neto could return to the starting XI, likely replacing Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and Christopher Nkunku. Enzo Fernández is poised to face his former club Benfica in midfield, alongside Moisés Caicedo. In defence, Reece James, Levi Colwill and Marc Cucurella are in contention to start alongside Tosin Adarabioyo, shielding goalkeeper Robert Sánchez.

FIFA CWC: Lionel Messi cruelly denied revenge as PSG dominate Inter Miami 4-0

Lionel Messi may have dreamt of rewriting an unfinished chapter against his former club, but Paris Saint-Germain ensured there would be no fairy-tale ending. On a humid June 29 night at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Messi's Inter Miami were dismantled 4-0 by the reigning European champions in the FIFA Club World Cup Round of 16 — a ruthless reminder of the gap between Major League Soccer and top-tier European Messi, it was more than just a knockout game. It was a return to face a club that once promised so much but gave so little — and in turn, a chance to put that chapter to rest. But PSG, led by Luis Enrique, arrived in Atlanta not with sentiment, but with purpose. From the very first whistle, the gulf in quality was visible in every blade of grass. And it took just six minutes for PSG to make their presence felt.A dominant performance from the reigning European champions. #FIFACWC— FIFA Club World Cup (@FIFACWC) June 29, 2025Joao Neves, rising unmarked inside the box, headed in the opener after a wonderfully curled free-kick from Vitinha — the Portuguese midfielder dictating rhythm and flow like a metronome in PSG's midfield. It was a goal born from precision and patience, two qualities Inter Miami lacked for most of the Despite fielding a team of legends — Messi, Luis Suarez, Sergio Busquets, Jordi Alba — Inter Miami were barely able to stitch together any cohesive attacking threat. Their defensive strategy relied heavily on bodies behind the ball, with nearly every pink shirt camped inside their own half. But the pressure was before halftime, PSG found their second — again through Neves — this time after Fabian Ruiz danced past the Miami line and selflessly squared it for the Portuguese midfielder to tap into an empty net. The third came moments later as Thomas Avils turned in an own goal under pressure from a Bradley Barcola cross. And by the time Achraf Hakimi smashed home the fourth, the contest had transformed into a training exercise for the was Messi in all this? Isolated. Drifting. Waiting. A lone figure up front, too often without service, and rarely in the rhythm of play. Suarez, now 36, looked fatigued trying to cover ground. Busquets appeared a step off the pace. Alba's usual bursts down the flank were absent. And from the dugout, Javier Mascherano — the Inter Miami coach — looked like a man still learning, perhaps even admiring the blueprint across the touchline from his former reencuentroTune in here: Inter Miami CF (@InterMiamiCF) June 29, 2025To Inter Miami's credit, they held PSG at bay in the second half, but only because the French side seemingly stepped off the gas. The urgency faded, replaced by a series of practice drills in possession. Even then, Messi carved out rare moments — including one trademark free-kick attempt from 30 yards out in the dying minutes. It hit the with that, the curtain closed on Messi's Club World Cup campaign. No goals, no drama, just a humbling defeat that left more questions than answers. For Inter Miami, the night served as a reality check — that the road from American ambition to European calibre is long and steep. And for Messi, perhaps a quiet lesson: some pasts aren't meant to be rewritten.- Ends

PSG cruise past Lionel Messi's Inter Miami

Paris Saint-Germain easily eliminated Inter Miami and old friend Lionel Messi from the FIFA Club World Cup, outclassing the Herons 4-0 in the Round of 16 on Sunday (June 29, 2025). Joao Neves potted two goals before a Miami own goal and a strike by Achraf Hakimi bloated the margin to four by halftime. The European champions will face the winner between Bayern Munich and Flamengo in the quarterfinals on Saturday. Oscar Ustari recorded six saves for Inter Miami, while PSG's Gianluigi Donnarumma had to make just three after Miami was held without a shot attempt for the first 50 minutes. The match was Messi's first time facing PSG since leaving the club and coming to America two years ago. Desire Doue won PSG a free kick just outside the penalty area less than five minutes into the match. Vitinha took the kick and connected with Neves, who headed it on the run across Ustari's body and into the net. Miami defender Noah Allen took a tumble and subbed out due to injury in the 19th minute. His replacement, Tomas Aviles, immediately earned a yellow card by tripping up Nuno Mendes. PSG continued to control play until Neves doubled the advantage in the 39th minute. Fabian Ruiz dispossessed Sergio Busquets, and a quick passing sequence freed up Neves for an open shot from the center of the box. Aviles' unfortunate match continued when he accidentally chested a PSG cross over his own goal line in the 44th minute. Moments later, PSG's Bradley Barcola made a perfect run to receive a pass deep in the box, and he passed it back to Hakimi. His first shot ricocheted off Ustari's head and the crossbar, but Hakimi scored his own rebound for a 4-0 advantage. After a quiet first half, Messi was credited with Miami's first shot attempt in the 51st minute when he had a left-footer deflected over the net.

PSG thrash Lionel Messi's Inter Miami 4-0 to reach FIFA Club World Cup quarterfinals

Ageing great Messi and his former Barcelona team-mates Luis Suarez, Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba had done well to reach the last 16 but the gulf in quality between the teams was laid bare over the 90 minutes. Joao Neves netted twice for PSG, who benefitted from a Tomas Aviles own goal, while Achraf Hakimi was also on target. After Neves opened the scoring early on Miami resisted until PSG hit three goals in 10 minutes towards the end of the first half. Messi was the main draw, as fans chanted his name and most of the 66,000 crowd were clad in Miami's hot pink interspersed with Argentina shirts. PSG dominated from the start, with Khvicha Kvaratskhelia floating into the box and teeing up Bradley Barcola, but Miami goalkeeper Oscar Ustari thwarted him with an outstretched leg. However shortly afterwards over-run Miami right-back Marcelo Weigandt fouled Desire Doue and it led to PSG's opener. Vitinha whipped a free-kick to the back post where Portuguese midfielder Neves ran in completely unmarked, stooping to nod past Ustari after six minutes. PSG's Fabian Ruiz had a goal disallowed for offside before Miami defender Noah Allen limped off injured in a further blow for Javier Mascherano's side. With the Ligue 1 champions pressing high and keeping possession Miami found it hard to get Messi involved. The 38-year-old Argentine superstar played a superbly weighted pass down the right flank for Tadeo Allende but a rare Miami break came to nothing. Messi's intermittent interventions were not enough to hold back the Parisian tide. PSG doubled their lead in the 39th minute when veteran holding midfielder Busquets got his footwork wrong in front of his own box. Spanish compatriot Ruiz rapidly relieved him of the ball and combined with Barcola to set up Neves to tap home his second. PSG grabbed their third when Aviles deflected Doue's cross into his own net, and Hakimi netted the fourth before half-time to put PSG out of sight. The Morocco international's first effort was deflected onto the crossbar but he stayed alert at the air-conditioned Mercedes-Benz Stadium to fire home the rebound. Eight-time Ballon d'Or winner Messi lost his cool with a swipe aimed at Vitinha as the Argentine raged against the midfielder, Miami's impotence and PSG's swagger. - Determined Messi - Messi produced a brilliant pass for Suarez early in the second half, chipping a ball over the PSG defence, but the Uruguayan could not finish to offer Miami a lifeline. Despite the impossibility of a comeback -- there was to be no comeback like the one Luis Enrique's Barcelona managed in 2017 against PSG from four goals down in which Messi and Suarez scored -- the Argentine was determined to bow out with a bang. Messi drew a first save from PSG's Gianluigi Donnarumma after the hour mark with a low effort. Luis Enrique sent on winger Ousmane Dembele for his first appearance at the tournament after a hamstring injury, but the Frenchman was rusty and imprecise. When Suarez was fouled by Lucas Beraldo on the edge of the box Messi had the chance to repeat his free-kick winner against Porto in the group stage, but his effort hit the wall. It was not to be for Messi or Miami, but their second-half performance was respectable and the defeat was by a lesser margin than the French side's 5-0 Champions League final thrashing of Inter Milan. PSG will face Bayern Munich or Flamengo in the quarter-finals in Atlanta on Saturday.
