Cowboys pleased with Trevon Diggs' rehab this time after previous frustrations
Diggs now is rehabbing the same knee after chondral bone graft surgery Jan. 23, which entails transplanting pieces of bone tissue into the joint to stimulate growth.
Cowboys owner Jerry Jones publicly rebuked Diggs for his previous rehab, suggesting his missed time at the team facility could have made him 'more subject' to re-injuring the knee.
'He's working hard,' Jones said last week, via Calvin Watkins of the Dallas Morning News. 'That's very important, because if he will be very good and diligent as to his rehab process, then he'll get back quicker, and he will arrive when he does get back, sounder than if he has not worked as hard. He's more subject to injury. He's learned that one time. My point is, I have a lot of hope that his actual rehab and experience from the time before is really helping him out, and I think it has.'
Diggs returned for the start of the 2024 season after missing 15 games in 2023. He played 11 games before his most recent knee injury.
His 2025 season is in question.
Diggs, who twice has made the Pro Bowl, had his $9 million base salary for 2025 become fully guaranteed in March. He has a salary cap hit of $12.5 million this season and next season is due a base salary of $14.5 million with an $18.4 million cap hit.

Baker Mayfield gets incredible label from Buccaneers legend Ronde Barber
The post Baker Mayfield gets incredible label from Buccaneers legend Ronde Barber appeared first on ClutchPoints. Baker Mayfield led the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to a 10-7 record and a division title in a career-best year in 2024. Despite a disappointing early playoff exit, Mayfield's performance has the franchise feeling confident entering the 2025 season. Mayfield earned a Pro Bowl selection and plenty of praise from fans for his stellar campaign last year. But a Buccaneers legend dropped the ultimate endorsement on the eighth-year veteran. Former Buccaneers cornerback Ronde Barber got together with Mayfield to watch film and talk football. And Barber gave his take on the franchise and the quarterback. 'This is a unique place. Tampa loves its football players and obviously loves its team but, you're the perfect Buc, man. Without players like you, it's not the same,' Barber told Mayfield, via the team's official X account. The Buccaneers have embraced Baker Mayfield '[It's] not only the player you are but the character you are, the personality that you bring to the game. You're going to be beloved here dude, it's awesome,' Barber added. Baker is already feeling the love in Tampa Bay. After landing with the team in 2023 and reestablishing himself as a franchise quarterback, the team signed Mayfield to a three-year, $100 million extension. The 30-year-old signal caller then topped his Buccaneers debut with a spectacular second season in Tampa Bay. Mayfield threw for 4,500 yards with 41 touchdowns and 16 interceptions in 2024. He added 378 rushing yards and three scores on the ground. After being selected first overall by the Cleveland Browns in the 2018 draft and spending his first four seasons with the team, Mayfield was discarded. Cleveland acquired Deshaun Watson in a trade with the Texans and then handed him a $230 million, fully guaranteed contract. Mayfield was shipped to the Panthers and ended up on the Rams before joining the Buccaneers and winning the starting job in 2023. 'Anytime you come to a place that's won multiple championships, you look at the names on the wall. But then, the fact that you guys are all still involved, says something about Tampa as a whole. It says something that, you guys want to come back, you want to be a part of it. It wasn't just a stop in your career, it's a chapter in your life that you're proud of. And that's what makes this place special,' Mayfield said to Barber. He took a unique path but Mayfield has finally found an NFL home. Now, he'll attempt to lead the team to its fifth straight division title and on to its first championship since Tom Brady was under center in 2020. Baker Mayfield drops blunt reaction to Browns quarterback drama
The post Baker Mayfield drops blunt reaction to Browns quarterback drama appeared first on ClutchPoints. The Cleveland Browns enter training camp with their quarterback situation still very much up in the air. While dark horse Kenny Pickett is now considered the frontrunner to earn the starting job, the competition remains open. But former Browns QB Baker Mayfield doesn't really care. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers' Pro Bowl passer was asked for his take on Cleveland's quarterback drama while appearing on New Heights with Jason & Travis Kelce. But Mayfield wasn't interested in weighing in. 'Listen, I plead the fifth. But I don't know. When I was healthy I was starting to get pretty damn good there. Not my problem anymore,' Mayfield said. The Browns' quarterback situation is still a work in progress The Browns selected Mayfield first overall in the 2018 draft. He won fans over with a strong rookie season, throwing for 3,725 yards with 27 touchdowns and 14 interceptions in 14 games. Mayfield threw for at least 3,500 yards and 22 touchdowns in each of his first three seasons. Then, in 2021, his numbers dipped as he played through a partially torn labrum. Despite the injury-plagued campaign, Mayfield appeared to be the future of the franchise. He even led the Browns to their first postseason win in 23 years when he helped Cleveland defeat the Pittsburgh Steelers in the Wild Card round in 2020. But the Browns had other ideas. The team landed Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson in a blockbuster trade and handed him a fully guaranteed $230 million contract. Mayfield, having been displaced as the team's starter, requested a trade and was shipped off to the Carolina Panthers. Since then, Mayfield has established himself as a star in the league. He earned a three-year, $100 million extension with the Buccaneers after a highly successful 2023 season. And he followed that up with a career-best 2024 campaign, throwing for 4,500 yards with 41 touchdowns and 16 interceptions, picking up a second straight Pro Bowl nod. The Browns meanwhile have struggled since bringing in Watson. After the quarterback suffered a season-ending Achilles tear in 2024, followed by an injury setback in the offseason, the team has added a plethora of passers. Cleveland signed veteran Joe Flacco to a one-year deal and traded for Pickett. Then the team selected both Dillon Gabriel and Shedeur Sanders in the 2025 NFL draft. Now all four are battling it out for the starting job with Watson sidelined. But their former first-round pick isn't all that interested. Mayfield has finally found a home with the Bucs. Dak Prescott Still Seeking Playoff Success Going Into 10th Season With Cowboys
Dak Prescott might be the physical embodiment of where the Dallas Cowboys stand as an organization in 2025. Both are rich, famous and desperately seeking postseason success. Going into his 10th season as the Cowboys' quarterback, Prescott has been with the team for nearly one-third of its NFC-worst 29-season drought without a conference title game appearance. He is driven to end it this year, preferably culminating in a Super Bowl ring. "If you don't want to win a Super Bowl, or don't think we can win a Super Bowl, then don't come to Oxnard," Prescott said Thursday. "You're in the wrong place. We know the standard when you wear the star. We know the expectations." Prescott is looking to bounce back from a chaotic 2024, which included becoming the highest-paid player in NFL history following protracted and public contract negotiations before sustaining a season-ending hamstring tear in early November. Back at full health and approaching his 32nd birthday on Tuesday, Prescott finds himself overseeing a much different offense under new coach Brian Schottenheimer than what Mike McCarthy ran the previous five seasons. Prescott is lining up under center more after primarily working out of the shotgun under McCarthy. There is more pre-snap motion and an increased variety of personnel groupings. Prescott likes the changes he has seen so far during the first week of training camp. "You don't know really when we're going to motion, when we're not, when we're doing to hit you with something fast, so it's just another great weapon," Prescott said. Even Prescott's trademark "Here we go" cadence is set aside at times, though Schottenheimer joked it is too ingrained in the public consciousness to be fully abandoned. "I mean, why would we take it away when it's got TikTok memes and stuff like that," Schottenheimer said. "It's one of the best things that he does, man, and so we're going to let him do that. But like everything that we do, we're going to be multiple." Another key asset is the return of Prescott's mobility, which he has displayed by extending plays or scrambling. "It's been a long road to it," Prescott said of his recovery after partially tearing his hamstring off the bone against the Atlanta Falcons on Nov. 3, requiring surgery and a lengthy rehabilitation process. "It's something that I think about every time I step on that field, being thankful for this moment. Not taking anything for granted, and understanding that I've got to continue to push. It's one thing to be healthy, but how much better can I get now that I'm healthy, and that's on the forefront of my mind, so feels good." That injury and Prescott's veteran status led Schottenheimer to say the quarterback's workload in camp will be carefully managed to ensure he will be healthy for the regular season. However, Schottenheimer conceded it might be difficult to get Prescott to dial things back. "He wants to do as much as possible," Schottenheimer said. "Luckily, we have the trump card with him on that. But in all seriousness, there's a smart way to train." Even with the decrease in preseason snaps, Prescott's desire to compete has not diminished, physically or mentally. "It's what I want from this game, and I know it's what everyone wants in this locker room," Prescott said. "Winning. Winning, winning, winning. And, obviously, if we give everything we can, and you go at it, there's a lot of good things and patches and pats on the back, I guess you could say, on the way. "But that's what's on my mind, 10 (years) in and ready to play another 10. But I want that first and foremost now, and that is the urgency that I carry with just the love and the passion of this game is not only wanting to win for myself, but wanting to win for this organization. It's been, well, damn long enough." Reporting by The Associated Press. Want great stories delivered right to your inbox?
