Wicklow taxi driver sentenced to 10 months in prison for possession of child porn video
Keith Reilly (57), a taxi driver and married father of two from Upper Grattan Park, Kindlestown Lower, Greystones, Co Wicklow, pleaded guilty to possession of the offending material contrary to Section 6 (1) of the Child Trafficking and Pornography Act 1998.

A sitting of Wicklow Circuit Criminal Court on Thursday heard that gardaí were alerted to the existence of a video in a Dropbox account in Reilly's name by the US-based National Centre for Missing and Exploited Children.
Detective Garda Dara McEvoy gave evidence of seizing a mobile phone during a search of the defendant's home on July 2nd, 2021.
Det Garda McEvoy said no child pornographic imagery was detected on the device but gardaí were 'extremely concerned' about the content and tone of a conversation between Reilly and another individual about young children in an exchange on WhatsApp.
He told counsel for the DPP, James Kelly BL, that files in a Dropbox account belonging to the defendant could not be opened but two videos containing 'Category 1' child sex abuse material were subsequently found in it with the assistance of authorities in the US.

Evidence was heard that one video contained a recording of children engaged in sexual activity while the other depicted a naked boy masturbating.
Det Garda McEvoy agreed with Mr Kelly that the WhatsApp conversation in itself constituted an offence under the legislation but the court heard that no prosecution had been entered in relation to it.
The court heard that Reilly had no other previous convictions apart from some road traffic offences from 20 years ago.
Cross-examined by defence counsel, Barry White SC, Det Garda McEvoy said he was aware that the accused had complained to gardaí in the past about being sexually abused as a child.

Det Garda McEvoy said he understood that a file on the complaint had been forwarded to the DPP who had directed that there should be no prosecution.
Mr White observed that the defendant felt a proper Garda investigation had never occurred into the matter.
The barrister said Reilly's offence seemed to be 'an endeavour to bring the matter into the open.'
Judge John Martin acknowledged that the offence related to a small amount of material when some similar cases involved hundreds of videos.

He also accepted that Reilly had cooperated with gardaí and entered an early guilty plea, while there was no evidence he had engaged in the offending behaviour over any prolonged period.
However, Judge Martin said he was somewhat concerned that Reilly was the father of two teenage girls given the nature of the offence who had also shown no empathy or remorse.
The judge said he disagreed with the view of both the defendant and his wife, that it was a victimless crime.
'Young people were exploited for the sexual pleasure of others,' the judge remarked. 'Innocent children were exploited by someone making money out of them.'

Judge Martin said Reilly's claim that he was not motivated by any sexual desire but was calculated to bring himself 'into the spotlight' was 'a difficult pill to swallow.'
The judge said it seemed like the defendant hoped he would be 'rumbled' which he found difficult to rationalise.

He observed that Reilly had a difficult childhood which no child should have to endure 'no more than the children in the video you were watching.'
The judge said he had been assessed at a low risk of offending although a psychologist believed such an assessment was likely to underestimate the risk due to the defendant's 'limited disclosure.'
Sentencing Reilly to 14 months in prison, Judge Martin suspended the final four months on condition that he places himself under the supervision of the Probation Service and complies with any directions given to him for a period of 12 months after his release from prison.
Another charge relating to possession of the other video was taken into consideration.

Region's knife robberies rise despite 'dedicated task force'
Knife robberies have risen in Greater Manchester despite the creation of a special taskforce set up to combat the problem. The rise is relatively modest at 4%, but other areas considered knife robbery "hotspots" saw reductions, including a 25% drop in the West Midlands. The government announced the taskforce following a steep rise in knife crime in seven police force areas, and the scheme has led to a 6% drop nationally since July 2024. Deputy Mayor of Greater Manchester, Kate Green, said the continued rise in region was related mostly to business robberies, and that "personal robberies" were coming down. Greater Manchester Police has recorded 1,345 knife-enabled robberies in the past 12 months, up from 1,288 recorded between July 2023 and June Green said the figures showed the increase in robberies was also "slowing down". "There's certainly much more to do," she said. "It's why we have a whole lot of initiatives running over this summer, policing the hot spots, stop and search, stopping vehicles and identifying the habitual knife carriers." The statistics include robberies involving the threat of a knife even if a blade is not actually seen by the victim. Moss Side based anti-knife crime campaigner and youth worker Kemoy Walker, whose nephew Prince Walker-Ayeni was stabbed to death aged 17 in April last year, said young people believed "boredom" was a factor in some offending. He told BBC Radio Manchester: "Young people have called out for diversionary activities because what they're saying is the reason why a lot of these things are happening in the community is because they're bored and they've got nothing to do."So as youth workers we've come up with a bit of a plan to try and look at what we can do to support the young people and that's what we're doing locally."Between July 2023 and June 2024, Greater Manchester, West Yorkshire, South Yorkshire, the West Midlands, Avon and Somerset, the Metropolitan Police and the British Transport Police areas accounted for 70% of knife robberies set up in those areas in July 2024 used tactics including drones, knife arches and detection dogs, with the seven forces also increasing visible patrols and the number of plain clothes officers on the Secretary Yvette Cooper said: "When we came to office, knife-enabled robbery was increasing at a concerning rate."We have now started to drive numbers of those offences down through the work of our dedicated taskforces, and as a result, we have also seen the first small reduction in overall knife crime for four years." Maguiresbridge: Victims of fatal shooting to be laid to rest in County Clare
The funeral service for the mother and her two children murdered in County Fermanagh last week will be held on surgeon Vanessa Whyte, 45, her 14-year-old son James Rutledge and 13-year-old daughter Sara Rutledge were shot dead in Maguiresbridge last week.A funeral Mass is to take place in the Church of the Immaculate Conception in Ms Whyte's hometown of Barefield, County Clare, at 12:00 local will then be buried together in Templemaley Cemetery. Mom of teen dismembered on first date launches blistering tirade at killer over 'copycat' Netflix-style murder
The family of the teen dismembered on a first date in Wisconsin launched a foul-mouthed verbal attack on the convicted Netflix 'copycat' killer as he faced his sentence. Maxwell Anderson, the 34-year-old who was convicted of killing and dismembering 19-year-old Sade Robinson, was sentenced to life in prison on Friday as Robinson's family delivered painful impact statements. 'My daughter referred to you as a man, you never be a f***ing man, you're a p**** a** b****,' Robinson's mother Sheena Scarbrough told the courthouse, Fox 6 reported. The teenager was brutally murdered in April 2024 after going on a first date with Anderson just days after they met in a bar. The pair had spent the evening of their fateful date getting dinner and drinks at the Twisted Fisherman in Milwaukee before eventually going back to Anderson's apartment. At one point, Anderson turned on the Netflix series Love, Death & Robots. The show's Season 2 finale, 'The Drowned Giant,' depicts the gruesome dismantling of a gigantic human body on a beach. Prosecutors claimed that Anderson mutilated Robinson's body on a Wisconsin beach overlooking Lake Michigan - a jarring detail that was almost too much to stomach for the jury. Sade Robinson (pictured) was brutally murdered in April 2024 after going on a first date with Anderson just days after they met in a bar 'I was like... that's disgusting because that could have been where he got some of his ideas or fantasies,' juror Melissa Blascoe told the Milwaukee-Journal Sentinel. 'I physically felt like I was gonna throw up at that point. I know a lot of people were shaking and crying.' Anderson was also charged with arson and hiding a corpse in connection with her death. He was found guilty on all counts. Robinson's father, Carlos Robinson, said to Anderson in his statement: 'You deserve what you get. He deserves the punishment that he gave to my daughter.' The teen's sister, Adrianna Reams, said Anderson's brutal killing of her sister continues to haunt her. 'I cannot meet any person without the fear that they're going to harm or kill me because all my sister did was meet someone and, as a result, he ended her life,' she said. 'The only one who took that from her is the man sitting right there. I beg you to not... I beg you to not let this man have any type of parole.' Judge Laura Crivello said Anderson had told a pre-sentence investigator he regretted not walking the teen to her car because she was abducted outside his home. 'I did not commit these crimes. And so I plan to appeal these crimes, while I hope and pray that further investigations not only prove my innocence but find and deliver true justice,' Anderson said publicly, speaking on the case for the first time. 'I don't think you're remorseful in any way,' Crivello said, Fox 6 reported. Anderson's father, Steven Anderson, made an emotional statement, and said: 'To Sade's family, there are no words I can share that will reduce your pain. 'To Max... we want you to know that we love you and support your plans for self-improvement.' Robinson's mother added: 'I'm gonna respectfully request that you confess where the rest of my daughter's crown is... you've already done the worst. You can at least give us that much.' Investigators said that Anderson is believed to have spread her remains around Milwaukee County and burned her car to hide evidence. Disturbing images showed Robinson being groped by Anderson while she lay face down on his couch, and prosecutors said she was far too incapacitated to have resisted. One image shows Anderson holding Robinson's right breast as she lay unconscious. That breast would later be cut off her body. 'This is his trophy in a way,' Blascoe said about the images taken by Anderson. 'Those pictures will be in my mind for quite some time.' Surveillance video showed Robinson's car leaving the apartment in the early hours of April 2 before arriving at the beach along Lake Michigan shores. The young student's disappearance sparked concern when she didn't appear for work the next day. Her manager, Justin Romano, told CNN that Robinson was 'very outgoing, she would talk to everybody here. She was always there to lighten the mood.' Romano said her not showing up for work 'wasn't like her at all,' and added: 'We kind of knew something was up; we had been calling her all day.' Anderson is believed to have cut her body into pieces and burned her car behind an abandoned building before taking a bus back to his apartment. Within the car, despite 'extreme fire damage,' investigator's identified the outfit Robinson had been wearing on the night of the date as well as part of an iPhone consistent with hers burned in the car, CNN reported. Police then were called to Warnimont Park where a human leg, that appeared to have been 'sawn off' at the hip, was discovered. The leg was then identified as Robinson's. A 'confidential informant' claimed that Anderson had planned to kill Robinson weeks prior to her death, Fox News reported. Anderson's attorney, Tony Cotton, argued, however, that the prosecution showed no evidence of Anderson's intention to kill Robinson. Cotton also pointed out he made no attempt to conceal himself on public transport home, and was wearing clean clothes despite having allegedly cut up her body in a muddy park. Jurors reached their verdict within an hour on the ninth day of trial. 'While we are satisfied with this verdict, our hearts go out to the family of Sade Robinson,' Milwaukee County Assistant District Attorney Ian Vance-Curzan said.
