Venture Global lands $15B for Louisiana LNG terminal
Venture Global announced Monday that it has secured $15.1 billion in financing for the first phase of the company's third liquefied natural gas export terminal. In reaching a final investment decision on the initial phase of the CP2 LNG project, Venture Global is positioned to become 'the largest exporter' of U.S. LNG, the Virginia-based company said in a news release. The project, located in Louisiana's Cameron Parish, expects to start delivering LNG in 2027. 'Our significant early investments and work on the project make CP2 the most advanced project at FID to date,' said Mike Sabel, CEO of Venture Global, in a statement. Advertisement Federal regulators in May reauthorized the agency's 2024 approval of CP2, and subsequently said Venture Global could move ahead with limited construction activities on the project. The CP2 terminal has an export capacity of at least 20 million metric tons of LNG each year, producing as much as 28 million metric tons annually under peak conditions.

VeriSign falls after Buffett's Berkshire sells $1.23 billion stock
By Jonathan Stempel (Reuters) -VeriSign shares fell on Tuesday after Warren Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway sold nearly one-third of its stake in the internet infrastructure and domain name registry company for $1.23 billion. Berkshire had been VeriSign's largest shareholder before selling 4.3 million shares at $285 each on Monday, a 6.9% discount to Monday's closing price. Shares of VeriSign fell more than 7% in early trading on Tuesday. The sale reduced Berkshire's ownership stake in the Reston, Virginia-based company to 9.6% from 14.2%. Another 515,032 shares may be sold to meet demand. Berkshire's remaining holdings are subject to a 365-day lock-up agreement. VeriSign said the sale was intended to reduce Berkshire's stake to below 10%, a threshold that triggers regulatory obligations. Berkshire did not respond to a request for comment. Buffett's company began investing in VeriSign in 2012, and prior to the sale owned nearly 13.3 million shares worth about $4.07 billion. VeriSign shares had risen more than six-fold since Berkshire began buying. Berkshire's smaller investments in technology companies have often been spearheaded by Buffett's portfolio managers, Todd Combs and Ted Weschler. Baird Equity Research analyst Rob Oliver, who rates VeriSign "outperform," wrote that the sale "could drive near-term weakness and questions around Berkshire's ultimate intentions with the stock. We continue to view the story as all about domain growth, which is strong and improving." Berkshire ended March with $347.7 billion of cash, and will update that total when it releases second-quarter results on Saturday. Buffett, 94, has run the Omaha, Nebraska-based conglomerate since 1965. Berkshire also owns close to 200 businesses including the BNSF railroad and Geico car insurance, and stocks such as Apple and American Express. Warren Buffett Makes Major Sale
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. Berkshire Hathaway, the conglomerate led by revered investor Warren Buffett, has sold roughly one-third of its stake in Verisign, a U.S.-based provider of domain name registry services and internet infrastructure. On Monday, Verisign made the announcement that Berkshire will be selling 4.3 million shares on Monday. In a subsequent release, the company said that these would be priced at $285 per share, meaning the transaction will generate over $1.2 billion for Berkshire while reducing its stake from 14.2 to under 10 percent. Why It Matters Berkshire began investing in Verisign in 2012, according to a prospectus submitted by the company with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). Since that time, the company's stock has risen nearly 700 percent, and Berkshire's sale is being touted as yet another example of its CEO's prescient investment skills. What To Know Verisign is a Virginia-based company best known for operating registries for top-level domains like .com and .net. In its most recent earnings results, the firm reported a 5.9-percent increase in revenue to $410 million in the second quarter. Verisign said that Berkshire may sell a further 515,032 shares—worth roughly $150 million at the $285 price point—and that it will receive no proceeds from the sale. The company added that the transaction is intended to reduce Berkshire's stake to under 10 percent, given this threshold "triggers additional regulatory obligations." Nati Harnik/AP Photo, File Buffett's company held nearly 13.3 million shares in Verisign as of late March, according to a filing in May with the SEC. Affiliates of Berkshire have been invested in the company since 2012, a year when the stock averaged around $41 and peaked at more than $49. Verisign, which now boasts a market capitalization of $28.6 billion, has since seen its share price rise to close at $305.98 on Monday, meaning the offer price represented a discount of around 7 percent. According to regulatory filings, Berkshire's portfolio comprises a blend including technology companies—primarily Apple—as well as those in the financial services, energy, automotive and food and drink sectors. What People Are Saying Adam Patti, CEO of VistaShares described Berkshire's portfolio as "really well-balanced portfolio chosen" to CNBC in April, and Buffett as "the most successful investor the world has ever seen." What Happens Next? Verisign shares fell sharply in overnight trading following the announcement, but are up nearly 50 percent in the year-to-date. Buffett is set to step down from his role as Berkshire's CEO at the end of the year, and announced that he would be handing over the reins to Greg Abel, vice-chair of non-insurance operations.
