Who is Heisenberg? 'Leo' director Lokesh Kanagaraj says mystery lyricist who composed hit songs for Rajinikanth, Jr NTR is a 'real person'
For several years, Tamil music fans have grooved to chart-topping tracks filled with pulsating English lyrics, but few know the true identity of the lyricist behind them. Known only by the alias Heisenberg, the person remains cloaked in secrecy—sparking endless speculation. The name itself is inspired by Walter White's dangerous alter ego in the American series Breaking Bad, adding yet another layer of mystery. Apart from director Lokesh Kanagaraj, no one in the industry appears to have actually seen Heisenberg in person. When Anonymity Met Stardom: The Rise of a Shadow Lyricist The intrigue around Heisenberg intensified when Lokesh Kanagaraj's 2022 action thriller Vikram, starring Kamal Haasan, hit theatres. Fans were particularly struck by the dynamic English-heavy tracks Wasted and Once Upon A Time. This anonymous lyricist again made headlines a year later with Leo, featuring Vijay. In that film, Heisenberg penned four songs: Bloody Sweet, Ordinary Person, I'm Scared, and Leo Das Entry. Despite the curiosity surrounding the identity of the person behind the pen, composer Anirudh Ravichander provided little clarity. In a media interaction, he simply stated that while he had spoken with Heisenberg over the phone, only Lokesh Kanagaraj had met the person in the flesh. He confirmed that Heisenberg was a real person—not a pseudonym for a robot or AI. Dismissing online speculations, Lokesh emphasized that both he and Anirudh have met this individual, though they are consciously choosing to protect the person's identity. The director clarified that neither he nor Anirudh is masquerading under the Heisenberg moniker. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Indonesia: New Container Houses (Prices May Surprise You) Container House | Search ads Search Now Undo "It is not a robot; there is a real person," he told the magazine. Lokesh went a step further and offered a cryptic hint: viewers who have seen the 1980 Tamil film Varumaiyin Niram Sivappu might be able to deduce who Heisenberg is. This clue immediately triggered a flurry of activity online, as fans and digital sleuths began connecting the dots. Fan Theories and Internet Frenzy Lokesh's clue has ignited a wildfire of speculation. The referenced film, Varumaiyin Niram Sivappu, directed by K. Balachander, featured Kamal Haasan and Sridevi in lead roles. This led many to believe Kamal himself might be moonlighting as the anonymous lyricist. Other names that emerged in the rumour mill include director Nelson Dilipkumar and veteran actor-playwright S. Ve. Shekhar. While some enthusiasts continue to believe the lyricist could still be Lokesh or Anirudh operating under a secret identity, the director's recent clarification has cast doubt on those theories. A Familiar Pattern in Tamil Cinema This isn't the first instance where an artist's identity has been kept under wraps in the Tamil film industry. In 2017, director Gautham Menon opted for a similar approach while working on Enai Noki Paayum Thota. The composer of its chartbuster Maruvaarthai was credited only as 'Mr X'. Months later, the secret was unveiled: it was musician Darbuka Siva. Speaking to The Indian Express, Siva revealed that the idea behind using a pseudonym was to take attention away from him. He admitted feeling overwhelmed by the spotlight and unsure about the public reaction, even questioning whether Menon was taking a big risk by selecting him. Heisenberg's Expanding Legacy in Tamil Cinema The shroud of secrecy surrounding Heisenberg has not deterred the lyricist's growing influence. In 2024, Heisenberg contributed more memorable tracks to major film soundtracks. These included All Hail The Tiger and Red Sea in Devara: Part 1, starring Jr NTR, and Hands Up from Rajinikanth's Vettaiyan. Interestingly, a simple online search for Heisenberg reveals very little. The individual doesn't have a Wikipedia page, social media presence, or any documented interviews. What remains consistent across all of Heisenberg's works is a distinct lyrical style—almost exclusively in English—and a recurring collaboration with one music composer: Anirudh Ravichander. No other composer appears to have worked with the elusive lyricist, which further narrows the circle of collaborators and continues to fuel speculation. The Mystery Endures The identity of Heisenberg remains one of the most captivating secrets in Tamil cinema today. Whether it's a deliberate creative decision or a personal choice for privacy, the veil over this mystery figure shows no sign of lifting anytime soon. As fans decode cryptic clues and analyze lyrics for hidden hints, the only certainty is that Heisenberg's verses have left a significant imprint on Tamil music—with or without a name to match the talent.

Mahavatar Narsimha Box Office Day 1: Ashwin Kumar's Animated Film Opens Strong With Rs 2.29 Crore
Mahavatar Narsimha, directed by Ashwin Kumar and produced by Hombale Films, debuted in India with Rs 2.29 crore on Day 1. The film explores Lord Vishnu's avatar Narsimha. Mythology met animation in a grand way this Friday as Mahavatar Narsimha, directed by Ashwin Kumar, made its theatrical debut across India. The film, produced by Hombale Films, opened to promising numbers with a total collection of Rs 2.29 crore on Day 1. The film's strongest performance came from the Hindi belt, where it raked in Rs 1.51 crore alone, accounting for over 65 per cent of its first-day earnings. In regional markets, the Telugu version led the pack with Rs 38 lakh, followed by Kannada (Rs 7 lakh), Malayalam (Rs 3 lakh), and Tamil (Rs 2 lakh). Backed by the production house that gave audiences blockbusters like KGF, Kantara, and Salaar, Mahavatar Narsimha explores the divine tale of Lord Vishnu's fierce avatar, Narsimha, a half-man, half-lion form taken to destroy the demon king Hiranyakashyap and protect his devout follower Prahlad. The film's core themes of righteousness and devotion seem to have resonated with audiences, especially in North India. The screenplay, penned by Jayapurna Das and Rudra Pratap Ghosh, has been praised for blending emotion and mythology effectively. Critics have highlighted the film's strong visual language, music by Sam CS, and a dramatic narrative that remains faithful to ancient scriptures. Presented in five Indian languages, Mahavatar Narsimha has been edited by Kleem Productions and produced by Shilpaa Dhawan, Kushal Desai, and Chaitanya Desai. Directed by Ashwin Kumar, the film retells the iconic story of Prahlad Maharaj, a young devotee of Lord Vishnu, whose unwavering faith ultimately led to the manifestation of the powerful Narasimha avatar to defeat tyranny. While deeply rooted in Indian cultural heritage, the story is now being adapted for viewers worldwide. As part of a larger vision to globalise the narrative, director Ashwin Kumar confirmed that Mahavatar Narsimha will soon be released in Korean, English, Japanese, Spanish, and Russian. 'Mahavatar Narsimha is releasing in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam. Currently, it will be available for a global audience with English subtitles. Eventually, we plan to have English, Japanese, Spanish, Korean and Russian versions of the film," he told Zoom in an interview. Ashwin also shared his creative influences, revealing a deep admiration for East Asian storytelling formats. 'I am inspired by Korean and Japanese storytelling and their anime. I watch a lot of their content. It is about time we take our content to them," he said. The film is produced by Shilpaa Dhawan, Kushal Desai and Chaitanya Desai under the Kleen Productions banner and is presented by Hombale Films. It marks the beginning of a much larger cinematic project, known as the Mahavatar Cinematic Universe. The franchise is planned as a seven-film series that will unfold over the next 12 years, culminating in Mahavatar Kalki Part 2 in 2037. Upcoming instalments include Mahavatar Parshuram (2027), Mahavatar Raghunandan (2029), Mahavatar Dwarkadhish (2031), Mahavatar Gokulananda (2033), Mahavatar Kalki Part 1 (2035), and the concluding chapter.
