Crime-solving badger takes centre stage in Steve Nash's debut novel

A crime-solving badger takes centre stage in a new work of fiction. Remington Platypus is the first novel by Steve Nash, an award-winning poet and former lecturer at York St John University. The book will be published on July 31 by Yorkshire indie publisher Northodox Press. Mr Nash said: "York shaped me as a writer and academic. "It's a place I still carry in everything I do creatively." Described as a "genre-blending literary crime novel," Remington Platypus tells the story of a badger detective who investigates the appearance of a grotesque, multi-species body, "a fusion of multiple species, Frankensteined together into something that should never have existed." "Someone is making monsters," and Remington, against the appeals of his boss, delves further into the world of the Murder, the syndicate of crows that controls half the city. Remington Platypus is available for pre-order from Northodox Press at And from Waterstones:

'Law & Order' star Christopher Meloni says he's 'f---ing trying' to get Stabler and Benson to hook up

Hargitay has also said she's into the idea, but she doesn't think it should happen just yet. As much as Law & Order audiences want to see Christopher Meloni's Elliot Stabler and Mariska Hargitay's Olivia Benson get together, Meloni might want it more. After a fan on X suggested Monday that, "for f--- sake, kiss her already," he replied, "I'm f---ing trying." There has long been a will-they-won't-they vibe between the two characters in the beloved franchise. They two were partners for more than a decade on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, and while Benson has stayed put, Stabler has moved to Law & Order: Organized Crime. However, they still communicate via appearances in one another's departments. They've come very close to becoming a couple, but they haven't actually gone there. Not only Meloni but Hargitay, too, is hoping for that. But she just doesn't want it to happen just yet. "Maybe on the last episode," she said in June on the Call Her Daddy podcast. "I think that's when they should be together... if it's right. We'll see when we get there." The law enforcement officers are "soulmates, in a way," Hargitay said, adding, "But let's see where the story takes us, you know?" Meloni himself has addressed a moment when the two nearly kissed in a season 24 episode of SVU that Stabler appeared on. That time, it was Benson who pulled away."We were attempting something," he said in April during a TVLine Spotlight conversation. "I don't think it worked. But I'm not going to tell you why it didn't work, because you all have your opinion," Meloni said, before adding, "I know what transpired." In May 2024, Hargitay dished that the kiss was initially supposed to happen. "To be honest with you, Chris and I thought it should go one way and the powers that be didn't, so it got changed at the last minute, that near kiss," Hargitay said in a May 2024 interview with Variety. "Obviously [creator] Dick [Wolf] gets final say. It's his show and he didn't want that." While Meloni's Law & Order: Organized Crime wrapped up its fifth season last month, there will be plenty more Benson — and maybe some Stabler references or even encounters? — when L&O: SVU returns for its 27th season Sept. 25 on NBC. Legendary NFL Quarterback Kurt Warner Lands Exciting Job

Legendary NFL Quarterback Kurt Warner Lands Exciting Job originally appeared on The Spun. Hall of Fame quarterback Kurt Warner has reportedly been tapped to lead an exciting new broadcast for the NFL this upcoming season. According to insider Andrew Marchand at The Athletic, Warner will serve as the lead analyst for the league's first ever YouTube live stream which will take place during Week 1's season-opening game between the Kansas City Chiefs and LA Chargers in Brazil. Due to its lack of infrastructure in the live broadcasting space, the video sharing platform will also reportedly pay NBC to assist in production for the event — as Amazon Prime did when it was kickstarting its "Thursday Night Football" broadcasts a few years ago. As big of a get as Warner is though, he's only the first piece. According to Marchand, YouTube still doesn't have a play-by-play voice locked down despite the game being roughly a month away. In a packed opening weekend all across the football world, most of broadcasting's biggest names are already tied up with other commitments. Not to mention that a lot of the bigger networks have been "reluctant" to let their talent hop on streams that aren't under their own umbrella in this competitive age of engagement and attention. In addition to the Warner-led livestream, Marchand adds that YouTube will also share alternative streams featuring some of the platform's top creators and influencers where they'll offer reactions and commentary of their own on the action. The NFL season officially kicks off Thursday, Sept. 4 when the Eagles host the Cowboys on "Sunday Night Football" and Peacock before following that up with the Chiefs-Chargers YouTube game. Now it's just a matter of finding out who will actually be sitting next to Kurt when the lights come on that Friday night in the league's second straight Week 1 Sao Paulo game in that time NFL Quarterback Kurt Warner Lands Exciting Job first appeared on The Spun on Jul 29, 2025 This story was originally reported by The Spun on Jul 29, 2025, where it first appeared.
