Nifty support levels at 24,900 seen crucial: Analysts

Time of India2 days ago
After slipping below the psychological 25,000-mark last week, the Nifty is now trading near a crucial support zone around 24,900–24,930. Analysts note that this area holds key technical significance, with multiple indicators converging near this range. A decisive close below 24,900 could trigger a deeper correction, dragging the index toward 24,500 or even lower, while a rebound could face stiff resistance near 25,200–25,300.

Where is Nifty headed this week?
A negative candle was formed on the daily chart on Friday, indicating an attempt to break down below immediate support. On the weekly chart, Nifty formed a third consecutive bearish candle. The previous decisive upside breakout from last month's larger range has been negated as Nifty slipped below the crucial 25,000 mark. There is a probability of Nifty sliding down to the next important support at 24,500 in the coming week. Any pullback rally could encounter strong hurdles around 25,200.
Trading strategies for the week:
With markets in a downtrend, fresh short positions are advised in the index and select stocks. Any pullback rally towards 25,200 could present a sell-on-rise opportunity. Partial profit-booking may be considered around the downside target of 24,500 in the next 1–2 weeks. However, any sharp bounce above 25,250 could be a red flag for shorts and an opportunity to square off. Shorts can be created in Bank Nifty, infrastructure, public sector enterprises, energy, and IT sectors. Some stocks with a negative bias include Axis Bank, Federal Bank, CG Power and Industrial Solutions, Samvardhana Motherson International, Hindustan Petroleum Corporation, Bharat Petroleum Corporation, Infosys, LTIMindtree, Coforge, and Power Finance Corporation.

Where is Nifty headed this week?
Last week, the Nifty slipped below its crucial 5-week EMA support of 25,130 for the first time in nearly four months, making this a key resistance level going forward. The weekly ADX remains flat at 21, and RSI holds steady at 56, reflecting indecision. Notably, the last three weeks' price action is contained within the weekly candle ended June 27, forming a potential 'rising three' continuation pattern, with confirmation above 25,255. On the daily chart, Nifty is trending near a vital support zone: the 50-DEMA at 24,930, Fibonacci supports at 24,920 (61.8%) and 24,800 (78.6%), and 5-month EMA at 24,680. These suggest likely rebound if Nifty sustains above 24,930 on closing basis. A sustained breach below this may lead to deeper retracement toward 20-week EMA near 24,540.
Trading strategies for the week:
Retaining buy-on-dips strategy is ideal, with aggressive longs to be considered above 25,550, a key breakout level. If correction deepens, it should be viewed as an opportunity for staggered accumulation at key support levels. Top picks are SBI, Bajaj Fin, Hero MotoCorp, Torrent Pharma, Coal India, NMDC, Tata Steel, UltraTech, Dalmia Bharat, Alkem Labs, Tata Power, Varun Beverages, Tata Consumer.

Where is Nifty headed this week?
Nifty ended the week on a weak note after breaching the psychological 25,000 mark and closing near a crucial rising trendline support. While this signals shortterm weakness, a decisive move below 24,900 would confirm an extended correction. Without such a move, a quick pullback above 25,000 could occur, but this may only be a temporary bounce. The broader structure remains tricky, and unless the 25,800 resistance—a key supply zone—is taken out, the market is unlikely to resume a sustained uptrend.
Trading strategies for the week:
Given the uncertain backdrop, traders should remain cautious and avoid aggressive positions. Sustainable long trades should only be considered above 25,800, which would signal strength returning to the broader trend. In Bank Nifty, weakness continues as long as it stays below 57,000, with breakdown possibilities below 56,000 that could drag it toward 54,500–54,000. Meaningful allocations should wait until the market breaks out of this indecisive range with conviction.

In the commodities market, Brent crude for September 2025 settlement shed 62 cents, or 0.90% to $68.59 a barrel. Global Markets: Most European shares tanked on Tuesday on lingering tariff uncertainties, while investors continued to wade through a deluge of quarterly corporate earnings. Japanese stocks, in particular, saw sharp swings after Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba's ruling coalition lost its majority in the upper house. Wall Street offered little direction, with US indices closing mostly flat overnight despite hitting fresh intraday records. Coca-Cola Q2 results: Net income jumps 58% to $3.8 billion; higher prices offset weaker global volumes

Coca-Cola reported a 58% rise in net income to $3.8 billion for the April-June quarter, even as global case volumes fell by 1%, with higher prices helping the beverage giant offset sluggish sales, particularly in Latin America. Revenue for the quarter rose 1% to $12.5 billion, while adjusted revenue stood at $12.6 billion—in line with Wall Street estimates, according to FactSet. Adjusted earnings per share came in at 87 cents, topping analysts' forecast of 83 cents. The company said global pricing increased by 6% during the second quarter, helping counter declines in overall volumes. In North America, volumes fell 1%, mirroring the global trend. Among product segments, Coca-Cola Zero Sugar emerged as a bright spot, with volumes rising 14%, even as total Coca-Cola volumes declined. The flagship brand still far outsells its zero-sugar variant, but demand for sugar-free options is rising rapidly. The company, however, did not confirm a claim made by President Donald Trump last week on social media that Coca-Cola would switch to real cane sugar in its US drinks instead of high-fructose corn syrup. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like This Could Be the Best Time to Trade Gold in 5 Years IC Markets Learn More Undo Coke only said that new offerings were in the pipeline. In other categories, juice, dairy and plant-based beverages saw volumes drop 4%, while sports drink volumes declined 3%, with gains in North America offset by losses in Latin America. Coca-Cola said it now expects full-year adjusted earnings growth of 8%. Earlier this year, the company had projected 8–10% growth, but lowered that to 7–9% in April. In 2024, Coca-Cola earned $2.88 per share. Coca-Cola shares edged slightly lower in early Tuesday trading, along with broader declines across US markets. (AI Image) 2025 US school rankings: The 2025 US school rankings, released by WalletHub, identify Massachusetts as having the best public education system in the country. The rankings evaluated all 50 states and the District of Columbia based on 32 key metrics spanning school quality, safety, funding, class size, and instructor credentials. Massachusetts secured the highest overall score, leading the nation in multiple academic and safety indicators. WalletHub's comprehensive analysis examined a range of factors including test scores, Advanced Placement (AP) exam success, school safety, and pupil-to-teacher ratios. The data shows significant variation in the quality of public education across the US, with some states consistently outperforming others in both academic achievement and school environment. Massachusetts leads with top academic and safety performance Massachusetts earned the highest marks in overall quality and safety, ranking first and second respectively in these categories. The state reported the fifth-lowest percentage of students threatened or injured with weapons on school grounds, the third-lowest share of students involved in physical fights, and the fourth-lowest rate of illegal drug availability on campus. Chip Lupo, a WalletHub analyst, emphasized the importance of both funding and how it is applied, saying, 'Getting enough funding is essential for a productive school system, but simply having more money doesn't guarantee success. How funds are applied also plays a big role in how good a school system is, as does the quality of educators, other professionals and the curriculum,' as reported by WalletHub. Connecticut and New Jersey rank closely behind Connecticut took the second spot in the overall rankings and earned the second-best ACT scores nationally. The state also has 6.6% of its public schools ranked among the top 700 nationwide, the sixth-highest percentage in the country. WalletHub noted Connecticut's efforts in maintaining a safe and effective learning environment as significant factors in its ranking. New Jersey ranked third overall, supported by strong reading and math test scores among fourth and eighth graders. The state holds the second-highest share of students scoring 3 or better on AP exams and has 8.6% of its public schools in the top 700 nationwide.
