Two MLB Players Suspected of Gambling Ties Have Their Lockers Removed
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. Major League Baseball announced Monday that Cleveland Guardians All-Star Emmanuel Clase was going on paid administrative leave while the league investigates the pitcher's connections to possible illegal betting. Clase joined Guardians teammate Luis Ortiz, who was effectively given a paid vacation while the league looks into any possible intent behind two pitches he threw that yielded suspicious prop betting activity. Originally suspended through the All-Star break, Ortiz's absence was extended through Aug. 31 to match Clase's suspension. Now, neither pitcher has a locker in the Guardians' clubhouse, according to Zack Meisel of The Athletic on Twitter/X. The lockers for Emmanuel Clase and Luis Ortiz have been cleared out in the Guardians' clubhouse. — Zack Meisel (@ZackMeisel) August 1, 2025 More to come on this story from Newsweek Sports.

Former NBA guard Jeff Teague reveals heated encounter with LeBron James fan after wild steroid claim
The post Former NBA guard Jeff Teague reveals heated encounter with LeBron James fan after wild steroid claim appeared first on ClutchPoints. Recently, former NBA All-Star point guard Jeff Teague made a brazen claim about his longtime adversary LeBron James, claiming that during his time with the Miami Heat, James was caught using performance enhancing drugs, which the league suspended him for and then swept under the rug. James has long been the subject of meme speculation about possibly using substances to help prolong his legendary career, but this marked one of the first times a former player had gone on the record with such a direct allegation. Teague recently took to his Club 520 podcast to detail an incident at a gas station in which a fan of James didn't take to the comments very kindly. 'That almost was your last day, boy,' said Teague about the interaction, via NBA Central on X, formerly Twitter. 'The fool called me a b****, a h**. I've got my back turned, pumping gas, then I turn back around, and I'm like, 'there's no way he's talking to me…' He looked back like, 'yeah, you a snitch. You a h**… Bron didn't do that.' I'm like, 'go on, man.'' LeBron James fans have been known to be fierce defenders of their idol over the years, which apparently now includes directly confronting former athletes when they don't appreciate what they have to say about the future Hall of Famer. Teague faced off against James in three straight seasons from 2015-17 when LeBron was a member of the Cleveland Cavaliers, and each time, James swept Teague's team (2015 and 2016 being with the Atlanta Hawks, 2017 being with the Indiana Pacers). Teague had also spent several years prior to that being tortured by James when he was a fellow member of the southeast division during his stint with the Miami Heat. At this point, it's unclear if Teague has any evidence to back up his claim of potential steroid use by James, but LeBron fans are making it clear they won't let any disrespect slide. Guardians closer Emmanuel Clase placed on leave for sports-betting investigation
Guardians closer Emmanuel Clase placed on leave for sports-betting investigation originally appeared on NBC Sports Philadelphia Another Cleveland Guardians pitcher is being investigated for gambling. All-Star closer Emmanuel Clase reportedly was placed on non-disciplinary paid leave as part of MLB's sports-betting investigation, ESPN's Jeff Passan reported Monday. MLB later confirmed the news, announcing that Clase's leave runs through Aug. 31, 2025. Clase is the second Guardians pitcher tied to the investigation, joining right-hander Luis Ortiz — who was named earlier in July. It's been a down 2025 season for the 27-year-old Clase after he led the American League in saves for the last three years. After posting a 0.61 ERA with 47 of 50 saves converted in 2024, Clase has a career-worst 3.23 ERA with 24 saves and five blown saves this season. The Guardians (52-53) have been hovering around .500 for much of the season. With the MLB trade deadline approaching on Thursday, Cleveland currently sits 3.5 games back of the final wild card spot through July 27.
