MONTREAL, July 08, 2025 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Bombardier announced today that the development of a new 51,000 sq. ft. paint facility at the London Biggin Hill Service Centre is progressing in earnest with several key processes completed, including ground stabilization and foundation work on the hangar. The hangar steel framework continues to progress and the cladding works have also commenced. Bromley and Biggin Hill Member of Parliament, Peter Fortune, visited the London Biggin Hill Service Centre on July 4, which provided him with a closer look at the exceptional aerospace expertise at the service centre and the development of its most recent expansion. Bombardier's new two-bay paint facility is expected to employ more than 50 skilled paint technicians and will be the perfect complement to the close to 250,000 sq. ft. service facility, which is fully equipped to perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance, modifications and avionics installations for Bombardier Global , Challenger and Learjet aircraft. With a targeted completion date in the second half of 2026, the new paint facility will add to the centre's comprehensive service options, ensuring Bombardier's customers have a top-tier option for all their paint needs. His America Party announcement touched on traditional populist-conservative themes. 'When it comes to bankrupting our country with waste & graft, we live in a one-party system, not a democracy,' he wrote in a Saturday X post. 'Today, the America Party is formed to give you back your freedom.' Musk has suggested that he will focus on tight congressional races. He has reportedly spoken to Andrew Yang, the tech commentator and entrepreneur who launched the centrist Forward Party in 2022. It's not clear what lessons he'll learn from Yang, whose party has yet to make an impact on any big races so far. During his run for president, Yang pitched universal basic income to address AI displacing workers. His Forward Party also has techie leanings — proposing data-driven policymaking and incubating innovative businesses — along with broader support for enforcing the democratic process and rule of law. Some alternative parties have been even more tech-driven. In 2006, programmers in Sweden founded the Pirate Party out of frustration around restrictions on online file sharing. That same year, American tech activists established their own branch, specifically to push back against the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) and promote data privacy. Though it has never become a political force, the Pirates enjoyed some successes in Iceland and Germany. (In 2022, the U.S. party ran one of its members for the House representing Kentucky, but Ethan Osborne won only 3.9 percent of the vote.) The Transhumanist Party has also struggled to get tech-focused candidates into office. Zoltan Istvan, a futurist who founded the party in 2014, mounted two unsuccessful bids for president, and another for California governor. Istvan is running again for governor, but this time as a Democrat. 'If you don't run for one of the two parties, you just simply don't break in, and so you have to be realistic,' he told POLITICO. Quite a bit less fringey was the political group Win the Future (WTF), launched by established players in Silicon Valley to challenge the two-party system after Trump's victory over Hillary Clinton. In 2017, LinkedIn founder Reid Hoffman and Mark Pincus, founder of the mobile gaming company Zynga, launched the group and tried to convince singer Stephan Jenkins of Third Eye Blind to be WTF's challenger against then-California Sen. Dianne Feinstein. The plans never came to fruition. (Hoffman declined to comment; the website for Win the Future is defunct.) Arguably the lineage of know-it-all tech entrepreneurs trying to disrupt politics starts with Ross Perot, the swaggering Texas IT entrepreneur who founded the Reform Party in 1996. He twice ran for president in the 1990s on a populist, tech-savvy platform that included measures to facilitate democratic participation via the then-nascent internet. At some level, all these projects crashed against the same obstacles that have sunk most third parties trying to crack the U.S.'s political duopoly. Political novices have to build coalitions from scratch and quickly figure out the patchwork of state election laws to make any kind of national impression.

Lucid Shatters World Record With 749-Mile Drive On A Single Charge

The widespread adoption of electric vehicles has long been hindered by a two-headed dragon: the lack of public charging infrastructure and the typical driver's range anxiety. These obstacles push automakers to find ways to improve range and show off their progress. A Lucid Air Grand Touring took the Guinness World Record for the longest trip in an EV on a single charge last weekend. The luxury sedan completed an impressive 749-mile journey between St. Moritz, Switzerland and Munich, Germany, shattering the previous record by nearly 100 miles. Behind the wheel of the Lucid was Umit Sabanci, a London-based entrepreneur who has the eccentric hobby of breaking Guinness World Records. In 2017, Sabanci set the record for visiting the most countries in 24 hours by scheduled transportation. He and a friend darted to 13 countries across Europe. In 2022, he completed the fastest circumnavigation of the Earth by scheduled flights. Sabanci flew a three-flight itinerary from and to Los Angeles International Airport in 46 hours and 23 minutes via Doha, Qatar and Brisbane, Australia. Sabanci previously worked with Lucid. He broke the record driving to the most countries on a single charge in June 2024. The vanity record breaker drove 567 miles southward through the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, Germany, France, Switzerland, Austria, Liechtenstein and Italy. In a statement regarding the single-charge distance record, he said: "When I completed the nine-country journey in 2024, it was just the beginning. This new achievement takes that journey even further. I'm proud to be part of a movement that proves electric mobility isn't just the future; it's already redefining what's possible today." The California-based manufacturer likely provided the modifications and expertise necessary to extend the drive far beyond the Lucid Air Grand Touring's EPA-estimated range of 516 miles. Lucid has stripped the record from a privately run Mercedes-Benz EQS 450+. The previous record of 645 miles was set just last month and broke the symbolic 1,000-kilometer barrier. One can only hope that competition for bragging rights between manufacturers will drive the record even further out and lead to technology that will become standard across all EVs. It's hard to believe that we're only three years removed from Mercedes-Benz Vision EQXX's unveiling. The German automaker built a hyper-efficient electric concept car to prove that an electric vehicle could have 1,000 kilometers of range. However, the one-off car was designed as a bland, blobby teardrop to minimize drag, taking function over form to the extreme. Now, we're seeing typically styled electric cars blasting past the 1,000-km mark. It's impressive to see how far EVs have progressed in recent years, and hopefully, this level of development won't stop. Want more like this?
